"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat
During the morning of this February 5 the alleged arrest of Jesús Ortiz Paz, vocalist of Fuerza Regida, was reported. Apparently for trying to bring marijuana from the United States into Mexico.
The singer was arrested in Mexicali, Baja California in the company of three more musicians who were also placed at the disposal of the authorities.
The 26-year-old singer was supposedly arrested by National Guardsmen at Checkpoint # 1 because among his belongings he was carrying marijuana cigarettes in plastic bags and a jar.
He was accused of crimes against health with the introduction of narcotics. Jesus was not the only person detained. Apparently he was also accompanied by Edgar Eduardo, Ángel Eduardo, and José Francisco.
They all declared that they’re musicians who music. Specifically, compositions from the corridos tumbados genre. Ortiz Paz is originally from California and has been a singer for Fuerza Regida since 2015. However, the group didn’t gain popularity until 2018.
