Other escapes in Mexico's prisons

This escape attempt is not the first to be registered in Mexico, as some were successful and others were thwarted, such as the recent one in Santa Martha Acatitla.

A well-known example is that of Joaquín Guzmán Loera from Puente Grande and El Altiplano, respectively; here in MILENIO, we review other cases.

On October 8, 2022, authorities confirmed that the group of inmates, five from Zacatecas, one from Durango and another from Veracruz, were not in their cells.

This was reported after deploying an intense operation by the Army, National Guard, State Preventive Police and municipal police.

It is presumed that the men escaped through one of the walls.

Twelve inmates escaped from the Cereso de Cieneguillas on May 6, 2020.

Those involved used a 50-meter tunnel that was built over six to eight months, authorities estimated.

At 2:22 p.m., a custodian fired shots from one of the Cereso's towers because the escape of the individuals was observed. Subsequently, "three vehicles in which they fled were tracked through the cameras at the intersection of Cieneguillas and Highway 54," said the then Secretary of State Security, Ismael Camberos.

On October 17, 2019, the 'Culiacanazo' occurred, an unprecedented event of violence in Sinaloa: after an operation, Ovidio Guzmán, son of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, was captured, which unleashed a deployment of armed men that generated shootings, blockades and fires.

That same day, a riot broke out in the Aguaruto prison, located on the road leading to Culiacán International Airport. At the scene, the inmates stripped five guards of their weapons, reported Sinaloa's Secretary of Public Security, Cristóbal Castañeda.

Nice to know that Darryl Castrejon is hanging around in Mexico. What city was he hung in? Do you know the circumstances? I'm sure the Ontario Police Department won't miss him.
