At the scene, authorities recovered a black Ford Lobo pickup truck with handmade armor that had multiple bullet wounds, as well as 30 bullet casings for assault rifles and an explosive device.

On September 2, Teocaltiche police officers were shot at while on patrol. Two police officers were killed in the attack.
