CDN Leaves Anti CDG Message in their Campaign for Camargo

“Itzli” for Borderland Beat

An anti-Gulf Cartel message appeared last week as part of the often overlooked CDN campaign for control of the municipality of Camargo, Tamaualipas.

On the night of Friday, February 11, 2022 it was reported that a man, around 60 years old and with signs of violence, was found dead in Rancho La Gloria, which is within the municipality of Camargo, Tamaulipas, and is located two miles south of the town of Comales.

Next to his body was a brief message, translated as follows:

This is going to happen to all who support “Las Golfas”
Sincerely CDN ZZ

It should be noted that the term Las Golfas is a play on words that the Cartel del Noreste (CDN) and other enemy groups of the Gulf Cartel (Cartel del Golfo, CDG) often uses. In a sense it merely means Female Gulf Members but actually turns the Gulf name into a slang word meaning whore.

The following day it was reported that a family from Rancho La Gloria had went missing and that their vehicle was found with blood stains. It is unclear if the two incidents were related.

The Campaign for Camargo
When Los Zetas first split from the CDG in early 2010, the municipality of Camargo, Tamaulipas was among the major battlegrounds between the two sides as Los Zetas were quite entrenched in the area, for instance this report from Borderland Beat in April 2010.

Over time Los Zetas evolved into the CDN and the CDG fractured into various factions, with the Camargo area being controlled by Los Metros. In time the borders between the two became relatively stable as the CDN was no longer present in the eastern section of the Tamaualipas/ Nuevo León border and the dividing line between the two in Tamaulipas became the area between Ciudad Guerrero and Ciudad Mier.

It appears the status quo began to change in 2019 when Héctor Raúl Luna Luna, alias “El Tory” was released from prison and tasked with the CDN campaign to regain ground in Nuevo León. In addition, CDN forces mounted increasing offensives against Ciudad Mier and are now regarded to control the municipality, with the border now being somewhere between Ciudad Mier and Miguel Aleman.

The aspect that is often overlooked is the fact that the CDN campaign in Nuevo León does not end in the Monterrey area but extends into the northeast corner of the state and the southern part of the Camargo municipality of Tamaulipas as the CDN appears to be trying to gain a foothold in their two pronged offensive again Los Metros.

The following is some of the notable battles that have occurred as part of this campaign for Camargo:
  • August 21, 2020 CDN vs. CDG between Camargo & Comales, Tamaulipas
  • November 5, 2020 CDN vs. CDG near Comales, Tamaulipas
  • February 8, 2021 CDN vs. Military near La Canela, Nuevo León
  • March 13, 2021 CDN vs. CDG in Doctor Coss, Nuevo León
  • April 14, 2021 CDG vs. GOPES in Comales, Tamaulipas
  • April 19, 2021 CDN attack in General Bravo, Nuevo León
  • April 24, 2021 CDN vs. CDG near Santa Rosalía, Tamaulipas
  • April 28, 2021 CDN vs. National Guard in Los Aldamas, Nuevo León
  • September 2, 2021 CDN vs. CDG between Peña Blanca, Nuevo León & Comales, Tamaulipas
  • September 20, 2021 CDN vs. CDG between General Tapia & Peña Blanca, Nuevo León
  • October 15, 2021 CDN vs. CDG near Doctor Coss, Nuevo León
  • January 14, 2022 CDG vs. CDN near Las Comitas, Nuevo León
In light of these incidents, the message in Rancho La Gloria may seem relatively minor, yet it shows the continued presence of the CDN as they move ever closer towards the city of Camargo itself.

  2. So who are the comandantes in this area for CDG? Hearst had mentioned that he/she was going to shed some light on that but nothing as of yet. In the last one Hearst covered the comandantes for the CDN...I send my regards Hearst. Not trying to call you out or anything, I'm just kind of waiting on that one. It would be appreciated if you made it happen. And thanks for the article Itzli. Good work.

  3. Greedy people fighting over territory instead of staying in their turf you are opening the door from other people from the other side of Mexico go in due to their incompetent behavior and not being able to negotiate business and taking care of the border corridor in Tamaulipas which is a golden route which others want even though they have California and Arizona.
