The PGR [attorney
general] office says it has insufficient evidence to prosecute Javier
Duarte, the former governor of Veracruz, for the crime of “organized crime”.
The charges will be reclassified to “criminal
association”, which is a much less serious offense and one that could give
Duarte bail opportunity, although the A.G. says Duarte is a flight risk. There is already a historical account of his
fleeing to Guatemala previously. The AG
is determined to keep Duarte in prison as he awaits trial on the new
charge.
He is also charged with Crime
of “operations with illegal resources."
The federal A.G. made it
clear that his is one process against Duarte, there are additional charges against him
by the A.G. of Veracruz.
