Culiacán, Sinaloa: On the first anniversary of the ambush that left five soldiers dead and 11 seriously wounded, federal authorities have  responded with arrests and assurances, but have not succeeded in the arrests of all participants. Twelve months have passed since of the assault and Federal Authorities have detained only three people. The events near Culiacan against the armed forces began yet another wave of violence in Sinaloa.

The attack happened the night of September 30 and / or in the early hours of Oct 1, 2016 when a convoy of military personnel were transporting to Culiacan the alleged narco Julio Oscar Ortiz Vega, alias "El Kevin", who had been injured in a clash with soldiers in the town of Bacacoragua, Badiraguato.

The versions of events released by the Attorney General's Office early that morning revealed trucks of heavily armed gunmen lie in wait for the soldiers while the Mexican Military personnel were on the way to the Espacios Barcelona and the gunmen attacked and rescued "El Kevin" from the Military; who was being transported toward the hospital in Culiacan by ambulance of the Red Cross.

Seconds previous to the attack on the Military convoy and the ambush were captured with  cameras near  the north exit of Culiacán; but no one ever expected that.

During the bloody ambush, a Mexican Military corporal named Cristian died, who was identified as one of the soldiers that had saved "El Kevin " from death in the initial clash with the Military in Badiraguato by providing medical first aid attention to him.

The attackers, according to investigating authorities, used large caliber semi automatic Barret M82 rifles, grenades and automatic weapons.

Commander of the Third Military Region, General Alfonso Duarte Múgica, said that those responsible for the Military ambush were non other than the sons of "El Chapo" Guzman Loera,  known as "Los Chapitos", but that statement that was quickly rescinded.  The Sinaloan capo, who is now extradited to the United States is in custody awaiting trial in New York: See Chivis's Post from earlier today.

After these deaths, the authorities quickly responded with strong operations, such as those carried out in the Paredones and Mirasoles settlements and in Jesús María in Culiacán.

At a special press conference where the alleged perpetrators were identified, the list of confiscated property included long arms, ranches, homes, armored vehicles, tractors, ATVs, a private clinic, high-caliber arsenal including grenade launchers, hundreds mobile phones, Rolex brand watches, and even animals: 12 thoroughbred horses, a cebu bull and a lion.

At the time of my two posts last October it was thought that Aureliano Guzman Loera, "El Guano", older brother of "El Chapo" Guzman had ordered the bloody Military ambush specifically to "rescue" the wounded "El Kevin" back from the soldiers who were en route to the hospital with him. At the time
some thought that "El Guano" was heading up the control of CDS in the absence of "El Chapo" and in the wake of the ongoing skirmishes between rival factions.

Aureliano "El Guano" Guzman Loera
Elder brother of "El Chapo"
However, it was on February 18, 2016 in a statement released from Sedena, that the  accused author of the deadly attack against the Military was said to be:  Francisco Javier "N", alias "Pancho Chimal", who had: "ordered and participated" in the aggression.

This subject was also designated by federal authorities as: "likely responsible for controlling the sale, distribution and transfer of drugs to the United States."

He was arrested in a special operation in Culiacán, in possession of two million pesos and two long arms. Later, Pancho Chimal escaped
from the Aguaruto Prison outside of Culiacan but was killed in a gunfight with Marines in San Cayetano, north of Culiacan.  During his funeral procession through the streets of Culiacan bursts of automatic gunfire accompanied the parade of expensive SUVs and Pick ups.

On June 10, the federal government revealed the detention of Jesus Rene "N", known as "El 20" or "El Rino", who was also accused of coordinating and participating in the ambush.

A third person who had been found with a long weapon and various drugs was revealed to have been previously been part of the Municipal Police Force.  The federal government reported the capture and identification of Jorge Alberto "N" in  the La Rioja subdivision in Tijuana, California. It was in June 22, 2017 when General Duarte Mujica announced this new major arrest.

Jorge Alberto "N" was also linked to the events that happened that day, in addition to  drug trafficking to the US. His arrest "cured" the spirit of the Sinaloa military forces; the Military ambush of Sept 30 / Oct 1 2016 was seen from the heart of the government as one of the most cowardly coups against the militia. It was a new dimension in what the criminals were capable of when confronting the government.

    2. I highly doubt Los Menores did this. If it was in another state, I'd swallow it...But, with all the heat around them then, picking a fight with the military in there own backyard, would be beyond stupid. I say Damasos did it, and tried to set up Los Menores...makes sense, looking back now, how it all shook out. No one will ever really know.

Many El Señor made peace with a smart younger man from Sinaloa who has shown to have loyalty of his workers and proved he is loyal too. This may be true because he is very protected under Gob Coppel and he has long had people and influence in Mazatlan.

His experience from the bottom like Guzman, Mayo, and Azul will get him more respect than what the Batt or Chapos kids will ever get.

So el Kevin who was with los mamasones, la chapa chila and cjng the blo and el guano and los chapitos provoked the soldiers and got shot up amd left behind, AND THEN one of his former buddies came to rescue kevin from the soldiers that got ambushed and killed but took him to the hospital because of his bad injuries. Then kevin got kidnapped in front of his 24/7 guards at the hospital, no doubt we are going places!

    19. It's obvious to me at least that the ones here who like to call names, and attempt to degrade anyone who doesn't share their opinions, are millennials. If it isn't right in their own mind, then instead of tactfully debating their points or opinions, they throw a tizzy fit, call names, and act out, waiting for Mommy to come.save them. I say mommy because if you had a real daddy around he would have taught you to act like a human being. Not a spoiled child. CDM, E42, So Prendido, and others offer informed logical opinions, and posts here, and I've yet to ever read a rude, insulting or inciteful remark when basically ridiculed for their posts. I too have strong opinions on these subjects, and actually read all of you readers comments. And it's very easy to spot the true "nuthugger narco wannabes" from the he people who are in the know. There's enough hate and bs in the world today over many things, that could be solved with clear, civil, open minded communication. Cool heads always win. My boxing coach told me at 10 yrs old, " Never fight when you're mad or sad." I didn't always heed that advice,...but age has taught me he was right. Let's all respect one another and the fact we are all.different, and think differently.

      Delete
    3. 5:20. I agree to an extent. Having read about CDS since 2009/1010 and learning from several people from Sinaloa I know vs watching first hand what goes on along the Texas border; it seems as long as Sinaloans are just in the drug biz the heat doesn’t have a problem. My Mexican neighbors from Culiacan say this is how it is and that anytime there are kidnapping problems “the narcos clean the city”.

      Delete
    4. @10:40 what about when the narcos in Sinaloa kidnap even underage girls to make them their brides? Do they clean those narcos doing that also? Or do they just say Plata o Plomo to the parents of said young ladies so that they get their way?
From my experience it is the latter of these options!

      Delete
    5. 10:40 typically anybody from Sinaloa will say the sicarios there are law abiding, respectful, church going, honest and loving people. Lol never mess with locals bla bla bla. BS keep it real. All cartels mess with innocents, they take the pretty girls by force if they dont want anything to do with them ext ext..

      Delete
    6. 4:41 you are so tremendously indignant, but you are right, there is abuse of minors and kidnapping for sex and exploitation, but for sinaloa it is the exception, for the zetas that is the rule.

      Delete
    7. 4:41 This is 10:40 and when I go to Chicago and locals tell me eat pizza on Rush street and don’t go to south side of town; they are right. Same when I go anywhere friends from there don’t steer me wrong. My neighbors who go back to Ahome and Culiacan laughed when I asked about narcos taking underage or any girls and 6 of the family laughed hard and literally apologized out of politeness to explain they did not intend to be rude. They said except for Benjamin AFO that is fiction from Mexican soap operas (they actually used spanish name for soap operas telenovels maybe??) Anyway they said that’s a routine scene on telenoovels but if it’s ever happened in Sinaloa it’s unheard of and rare. All day long they are speaking with family and their workers in Culiacan and Ahome and going back and forth for business. To conclude I do believe locals I know befpre I do keyboard warriors who offer tales without evidence or sources to back up a wild claim.

      Delete
    8. 4:36. From your experience? Offer some fact, source, backup b/c my BS meter is in the red.

      Delete
    9. 5:58 the way you ask a question makes all the difference in an answer my friend. Asking a Sinaloan about girls kidnapped outright is like asking if all of them are related to Chapo. Of course they will laugh for it's like you are stereotyping them. But just like in places like Chicago; most people that witness a crime committed there they will choose to stay quite for fear of retaliation. I've been to Chicago and Mexico and know this first hand. Unless a crime happens to a family member of theirs directly.
Also 15 and 16 year old girls in Sinaloa (and all of Mexico for that matter), although by law are underage are not looked at as victims if taken as concubines by anyone and in Sinaloa among other places in Mexico.

      Delete
    10. @6:00 "Plata o Plomo" is the source my friend. If the parents of a child that was taken are given plata to remain silent that is what they do. If they talk they get terminated. Apparently you don't know how that concept works!!!
This concept is used to silence and or corrupt which is why you don't hear about it in mainstream media mich unless it happens to one of yours.

      Delete
    11. 7:26; I appreciate your polite response and in the end I guess we will just have different opinions. I take my neighbors and other friends at their word and we have known each other well enough to be well beyond fears of my stereotyping. They invite my preteen blond children with them to Culiacan every summer to spend with their same age children and I am confident enough in their word that I will be sending my children with them next summer for the cultural and language learning experience. They are very fine hardworking family people, their children well behaved and I do take them at their word. Best to you my friend.

      Delete
    12. 8:51; I don’t think there is anyone remotely familiar with any type of criminal organization that doesn’t know plato or plomo. Human civilizations at its most fundamental root has used silver or violence - Pay taxes, extortion, bribe or whatever you want to call it or face the wrath of violence. I acknowledge this makes good cinema but it’s the least sophisticated of strategies, and as it relates to Mexico this mantra and strategy is relied upon by only the least sophisticated of gangs that either do not last, or are ultimately rebuked by both civilians and government. Like the Cali Cartel did, the Sinaloa Cartel has proven business acumen beyond the reliance on intimidation and this is evident from most Sinaloans either being ambivalent or supportive of the organization. My advise is visit Culiacan, Los Mochis, Mazatlan, Guassave, and other places in Sinaloa and you will learn that both the movie depictions and most the comments by keyboard experts that have never left their city are pure fiction. If the CDS operated as the Zetas, LFM, CT, or even AFO with their flamboyant ways and unnecessary violence; they would not be around today. There is a reason the media and Mexican government is reporting the demise of CDS, and the growth of CJNG; and CDS is both orchestrating this and benefiting by perpetuating this narrative.
I have spent decades as an “American expat” working for private contractors consulting with the Office of Intelligence for ICE and I can assure that the prevailing understanding and stereotypes of the Sinaloan mafia is vastly misunderstoood. The Sinaloan mafia has tentacles reaching deep into every military branch in Mexico, the government (PAN, PRI and PRD) as well as US intelligence agencies, numerous state and local enforcement agencies in the US, as well as a myriad of governments for the likes of Australia, Spain, Italy, Argentinia, Peru, and about 14 other countries where there is ongoing signal and human intelligence showing a growing presence.

  4. Does anyone actually believe truth to any of the facts given by investigators surrounding this incident?
Quite sure those responsible are those that operate at the highest levels ( government / Narcos).
Moreover, the irony of such funeral processions of caravans with firearms and not being detained by government / municipal officials.
The lack of enforcement due to government involvement of the drug trafficking business.
Doubt that anymore individuals will be apprehended. More like scapegoat individuals to please those wishing justice.
Can't believe any intelligence given nowadays.
Propaganda/ political elements will always continue to disperse the true scope of reality.

    2. Its cause you dont understand how it is in mexico. In some places no matter where you live. Its ran by narco. So when people are shooting in the street the cops are not gonna show up cause they know theyll probably get killed or get humilated. Something will happen. Its not due to the involvement of police in The business. They're scared or overpowered or maybe even just turn the other way most of the time....buuut im not saying there isnt goverment/police corruption because there is. But it isnt AS bad as you think. It just depends where your at tbh. Some states are bad. Sinaloa is ran better than most In narco aspects.. Most of these ranches are ran by narco though...but also to answer your question i do belive the facts given by the investigators in this case...to an extent...anyways im out...my 2 cents...if you dont like it dont take it no hard feelings

Even BLO, not to mention CDS are mostly traffickers...it's not as tight as when Arturo,Chapo,Mayo, and Azul we're the Jefes..When the Golfos and Zetas, and now CJNG, brought the brutality to higher levels, did the old guard have to retaliate with similar tactics. CJNG are formidable, but if they continue to war constantly they will be dismantled. The lesser of the evils is Sinaloa...the money has to keep flowing, so who do you think the govs are gonna nail next??? Chapo gone...looks good in press, but Mayo keeps making money.....and paying.

    5. El Kevin had to be taken to the hospital due to his wounds that the soldiers tended to, then he got kidnapped from the hospital where he was supposed to be under 24/7 guard by the army and police,
--i'd like to know how many of these guards at the hospital got "murdered" to rescue el Kevin once again to torture and murder his ass, besides, was the body found? HIS body?

  14. Everyone has been blamed for this attack..well whoever the government feel they need to pin it on at the time..3 to 4 different factions have been blamed for this attack..very much doubt it was chapos doesn't go with their normal M.O..C'mon I know someone up in here has got some theory or some inside info...thanks...is it just me or considering there's an uptick in violence + murder rate it seems there's less press coverage compared to roughly 7 to 8 years ago when the violence peaked during Calderon years

  17. I believe this was one of the reasons Javier Valdez was murdered after publishing the supposed letter from los menores denying their participation in the ambush...being the cofounder of rio doce...i am currently reading a book and have a few in mind by Javier Valdez which shows you first hand testimony from people that have lived with the narco life and all the violence that comes witht it...executions, kidnappings, people losing their homes due to violence and threats from drug gangs it really goes to show you the real face of whats going on in Mexico and not glamourized like they do in Narco corridos...i highly recommend books by Javier Valdez he also has them in english...one of them is Taken or Levantones by Javier Valdez Cardenas

    1. Murdering hundreds of thousands of colombians made alvaro uribe velez a big billionaire, and many of his associate paramilitary also benefitted from it,his sons "los chakys" are also millionaires, from stealing the properties of the people they vanished to the other world, from secret drug trafficking and from robbing the public trough. SAME AS THE MEXICAN NARCO-GOVERNMENT HEADED BY EPN , but epn did not create it, it comes strait from the US, this shit makes the global state coup wo4k and self-sustainable, and when push comes to shove there is always extinction of dominion to take whatever back, already getting done in colombia against Alvaro Uribe velez's former paraco partners milicos businessmen, PEPES and land owners some of whom are in prison too, contemplate the same to happen in mexico to the hypocrites, the pharisees and the philistines or the sodomites.and the ghonorrheos one of these days.
