Three Detectives Ambushed After Returning From Missing Person Investigation in Zapopan, Jalisco

Three detectives assigned to the Deputy Prosecutor's Office for Missing Persons were wounded after being ambushed by gunmen in Zapopan, a suburb of Guadalajara, yesterday afternoon.

The detectives were returning from conducting a survey on a piece of land related to an investigation into the disappearance of a person, when they were ambushed in the La Venta del Astillero neighborhoods by four individuals in a black vehicle who blocked their path. After firing several dozen shots, the gunmen escaped towards the highway to Nogales. 

CCTV footage from a neighboring block captures the audio, and shows civilians sprinting away from the attack.

The attack provoked a major police response, but the culprits have not been located yet. The injured detectives were airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

It is likely that the detectives were surveilled by the CJNG while on their investigation, enabling the gunmen to intercept them as they returned home.
