Los Mayitos Faction Supplies CDN Drug Smugglers, According to DEA Reports

 "Socalj" for Borderland Beat

The DEA released their National Drug Threat Assessment this week highlighting Mexican cartels and transnational gangs recently designated as FTOs.

A key takeaway is regarding the shift in alliances and cartel factions. Most notably the cooperation between the Los Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel and CDN.

The DEA reports that Los Mayos supplies CDN with fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine which CDN then smuggles northbound into the United States. The CDN facilitates the sale and distribution of these drugs using routes under control of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Historically, as the armed wing of the Gulf Cartel, Los Zetas did not have their hands directly in drug manufacturing or smuggling directly from South American sources but rather acting as protection for CDG operations.

Extortion, kidnapping, human smuggling and other organized crime staples were used by the Zetas in order to fund their expansion when breaking away from the Gulf Cartel. As a part of that expansion, Los Zetas began operating in other countries including Colombia to source cocaine and facilitate human smuggling. It has been reported that CDN took over Colombian connections from Los Zetas.

Last year, former CDN leader Juan "El Huevo" Treviño-Chavez pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to import and distribute marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine in Texas.

Longtime Rivals

When Osiel Cardenas, Gulf Cartel leader was arrested in 2003, the Sinaloa Cartel saw it as an opportunity to take territory from them with plazas and routes into eastern Texas at stake. Their battles helped militarize the cartels and created an arms war in Mexico.

This also gave rise to Los Zetas as their own cartel and other cartels around the country that formed in response to the expansion of Los Zetas, many initially allied with Sinaloa.

In 2021, Mayo Zambada gunmen showed support for "El Rodo" for an independent cartel in Nuevo Leon, seperate from CDN. The cartel group, led by Joel Rodolfo Ramones Barda had said to be working with Mayo for years. The independent group has threatened the Gulf Cartel factions and CDN alike.

In October 2023, Los Chapitos released a video threatening Cartel del Noreste while interrogating a captured rival in Doctor Arroyo, Nuevo León. Last year, an armed group of CDN, "Chukys" threatened to rid the Nuevo Leon area of "rats" from the Sinaloa Cartel, CJNG, Gulf Cartel, and other groups.

Z-40, the founder of CDN and former Los Zetas leader, in a WhatsApp message supposedly sent from prison threatened the Sinaloa Cartel as well in the area.

The DEA has finally acknowledged that the Gulf Cartel is no longer a single entity, even though it is listed among those designated as terrorist groups. "As of 2025, CDG is no longer a unified cartel, having split into multiple factions. The two most powerful factions are Los Metros and Los Escorpiones."

It is noted that the Los Metros faction is aligned with CJNG for protection from Los Mayos, CDN, and other CDG factions. The Los Metros faction has effectively become an enforcement arm of CJNG in northeastern Mexico and assists in protecting and transporting CJNG-owned shipments across the border.

In addition, Los Metros traffics cocaine acquired from Colombia and methamphetamine sourced from LNFM across the US Mexico border

Possible CJNG/Chapitos Alliance

The DEA report also noted a possible alliance between Los Chapitos and the CJNG citing Mexican news sources.

"CJNG could capitalize on the conflict between the Los Mayos and Los Chapitos factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, essentially by choosing sides in favor of their former rivals, Los Chapitos, against Los Mayos. A strategic alliance between CJNG and Los Chapitos has the potential to expand these groups’ territories, resources, firepower, and access to corrupt officials, which could result in a significant disruption to the existing balance of criminal power in Mexico and could serve to increase northbound drug flow and southbound weapons trafficking at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Should all of this play out as the DEA suspects, there could be an alliance amongst Mexican cartels not seen since the time of the Sinaloa Federation some 20 years ago. The Mayito Faction allied with CDN and the Guasave/BLO Cartel against the CJNG, Los Chapitos and Los Metros could reshape the landscape of Mexican organized crime and drug cartels.

  1. This makes sense. Chapitos had no choice but to make an alliance with CJNG in order to increase their odds of survival. CDN and CDG are enemies for life. Since CJNG got with CDG it made sense for Mayo to go with CDN. Where does Juarez cartel and CAF stand? It's two big sides against each other. Nuff Said!!!

    7. El babay is CAF and is fighting for Cabo with mayos help. They have an alliance and from what I’ve read la Línea was with chapitos and Juarez I’m not sure because they no longer with together

    8. As I stated several weeks ago, after the blo-mayito alliance and everyone was saying chapitos were finished, that the chapitos would be seeking war changing alliances. As long as Rocha remains governor chapitos are still in the war. If mayitos win Rocha is dead, so when he hightails it that will signal the end is near. Another tell is the chapitos family seeking refuge at the american border.

    10. I guess Jaliskas have to decide wether they keep their alliance with Juárez or support the Chapitos .. I don’t see a scenario where Chapos and Linea call truce.. but then again Linea is fighting La Mayiza for the Ojinaga corridor.. maybe Juárez feels like 🖕🏿 all of y’all we don’t need no shitty alliance to any one 🤷‍♂️

    11. They will be in the fight alright, but they have less and less every day and every week, just as planned. Why does everyone of you think that Chapitos would lose in a week or 2.. Mijo, these things take longer than that.

    5. @10:54 what are you smoking .. no cartel from Tamaulipas has direct sources in Colombia and they haven’t for a while now … too much infighting between organizations that it’s not worth it doing business, you gotta understand that the big boys move product on consignment thats how the big bucks are made and no one in the right mind would want to move product that is owed through a shitty Tamaulipas plaza (ya sea Reynosa Laredo o matamotos) and run the risk of losing it . What ends up happening is what you currently have in places like Tamaulipas and michoacan, the big boys start moving weight through different routes leaving the locals to fight for the right to extort kidnap and tax the local population .. so I seriously doubt that your comment has any truth to it .. matamoros has no direct plug homie

All cartels are on US radar now. Alliances will only deter rivals from being exterminated for a brief period. While security concerns remain high from US capture.

    1. Not necessarily. He has an entire country's political system $hitting it's pants since they all have their hand in the honey pot. If he publicly releases the info given to him for a more cushy prison experience, he can literally destroy Mexico. All the huge businesses planning on building factories are already starting to think twice about their plans with Mexico appearing so unstable and unable to control crime apart from skewing the statistics in their favor.

For example I wouldn't throw my own people under the bus but if they already had evidence and wanted to test me and see if I would tell the truth or lie, I'd unfortunately have to.

  24. La Linea has an alliance with CJNG for awhile now against CDS but they have a hands off policy when it comes to CJNG operating in Chihuahua.. it’s a whole article on BB about the alliance., they found 5 decapitated heads on the highway in Chihuahua and I have think a narco manta or the army had intelligence that CJNG was backing them up against CDS and supplying them with crystal and synthetic drugs to traffic through El Paso… Juárez will never work with CDS too much bad blood same with AFO… just because one cartel forms an alliance doesn’t mean the other allies fall in line doesn’t work that way… and there isn’t one report of CJNG in an alliance with Los Chapitos… Chapo Isidro, the CJNG and a local group were in alliance in Baja Cali Sur called the “Triple Alliance” going against chapitos for La Paz and Los Cabo San Lucas that explains why Chapo Isidro had territory all over northern Nayarit and there never been any clashes between there groups… Chapos are fighting CJNG in Colima and supporting groups in Jalisco (New Plaza Cartel) and supporting CSRL in Gaunjauto and from what I read groups in Veracruz against CJNG… highly doubt that alliance is possible…

What was the secret deal that they made to the head of the Sinaloa cartel. Owning half of Mexico? Killing there rivals? Orange turd is now like Felipe Calderon. He also did deals with that cartel. His administration also detain there rivals.
