More Women, Children Joining Drugs Cartels

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

The International Crisis Group says women are joining the cartels in greater numbers. NewsNation’s Jorge Ventura says the cartels often target women from broken families, and the cartel leaders value women for the confidence and their abilities to evade police. The report also says children have been recruited, some of them nicknamed “narco juniors.”

    2. That isn't what the article said, and it definitely isn't what the data was released for. It said they are being "recruited", which means aggressively targeted to do things that benefit the cartel that they can't refuse.

    1. Exactly. The US bitches about cartels but then pays artists to play corridos at huge music festivals while glorifying narco culture throughout the performance and paying Morgan Freeman to narrate, even when a few hundred miles away over the border these bands aren't even allowed to play the same corridos in Mexico. It was bad enough with Netflix adding all the narco culture series, but to get a well respected Hollywood actor to record narco propaganda, that is next level normalization.

  3. This is the result from Mexico's idiot president and his campaign of hugs and kisses for cartels. Great job on empowering the cartels more and hurting your people. This is why I had to leave Mexico. I was afraid that cartels might recruit my son Duffy. I also feared that my daughter Puffy would be forced into prostitution. They need a strong Mexican president to bring law and order. Nuff Said!!!

    1. Well Sonny boy two ladies are running for president Sneiderbalm will more likely follow the traits of grampa Obrador, as she in her campaigns does not mention about cleaning out the Cartels. While the other does mention wants to reduce cartel violence.

    2. 12:28 - The other candidate that you say wants to reduce cartel violence, just criticized Morena’s (AMLO’s and Claudia’s political party) use of prisión preventiva and said that she wants to eliminate it. If you don’t know what prisión preventiva is, it is essentially keeping suspected criminals in prison during their entire legal process. Prison preventiva is the reason why the government was able to keep Ovidio in prison while he waited for his extradition and had prisión preventiva been granted to Mencho’s brother, Don Rodo, he would still be in prison. I’m sure that all of these drug lords who were at one point fugitives will happily show up to all of their court dates if they were to be released.

    3. 12:48 - Not to mention that the political parties PRI, PAN, and PRD who all currently back Claudia Sheinbaum’s opposition have a long history of corruption. Did we forget about Garcia Luna? The Secretary of Public Security during the PAN administration who is currently in a U.S. prison for being on CDS payroll. There was also a PRI politician who was arrested in Puebla earlier this month by the Mexican marines for working for a criminal organization.

    5. It's all political in the beginning then later it gets adjusted to same line of continuous corruption. Whom ever wins will be in bed with the Cartels.
I am hoping they don't offer daily conferences like grampa does.

    6. 12:28:
Sheinbaum has indicated that she will make some changes in Mexico's security strategy. She wants judges to be elected which will only increase judicial corruption and pandering to public opinion. Elected judges in the U.S. frequently yield to public opinion rather than follow the law.

      12:48:
I believe Galvez means that she wants to reduce preventive detention for lower level offenses which are the bulk of the crimes involving preventive detention in Mexico. Serious offenders and traffickers would still remain in preventive detention.
The problem in Mexico is that you can sit in preventive detention for 8 years for a crime punishable by 5 years.

      3:19:
I am the only one here authorized to give politicians an official BB moniker. I decided if Sheinbaum actually does significantly lower violence in Mexico that she would be respected and known by her given name. If she follows ELMO's hugs not bullets strategy (which I believe she won't) then her official BB moniker shall be ELMITA. However, there may be circumstances where She'snada or Sheisnada would be appropriate.
