The Jalisco State Attorney General's Office confirmed the discovery of five lifeless bodies inside a SUV that was abandoned in Villa Corona, which generated an intense police mobilization due to the possible presence of explosive devices.

Official reports indicate that on the afternoon of March 19, a report was issued to the 911 emergency service, alerting that there were several unconscious people in a vehicle located on Prolongación Allende street, at the intersection with the Villa Corona-Cocula highway.

Investigation Police officers went to the aforementioned place, where they found a white GMC pickup truck of recent model with armor plating. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the authorities found the bodies of five lifeless men with traces of violence.

At first, local media indicated that only three bodies were found in the vehicle. It was also reported that a 200-meter security fence had been set up, as it was presumed that the van was storing explosive devices.
Although the Jalisco Prosecutor's Office did not confirm the above reports, it was reported that personnel from the Explosives Specialized Group (TEDAX) provided support during these tasks, and reporters covering the discovery were asked to remain on the ground in case of a possible explosion.

Meanwhile, experts from the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences were in charge of transferring the five bodies to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) to perform the corresponding autopsy and establish the causes of death.

So far the identities of the dead men have not been released, so their places of origin and whether they had a missing persons report have not been determined.

As for the white SUV where the bodies were found, the authorities did not inform if it had a theft report and where it came from. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.

Between January and February 2024, 387 homicides were reported in Jalisco (Photo: EFE/Miguel Sierra).

In the first two months of this year, 387 homicides were reported in the state governed by Enrique Alfaro, of which 240 were intentional and 147 were culpable, according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SENSP).

This was a decrease compared to the same period in 2023, when 420 homicide victims were recorded in Jalisco.
