'El Nini' Obtains New Provisional Suspension Against Extradition To The United States

Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, El Nini, head of security for the Chapitos, obtained a new provisional suspension to prevent his extradition to the United States.

The drug lord filed the amparo lawsuit before the Seventh District Court for Amparo and Federal Trials in the state of Mexico in Toluca, which declared itself incompetent to hear the matter, and therefore turned the case over to the Sixth District Court for Amparo in Criminal Matters in Mexico City, which accepted the appeal and granted him the provisional suspension so that he would not be handed over to the neighboring country to the north.

"The provisional suspension is granted so that the plaintiff remains at the disposal of this District Court in the place where he is being held, only with respect to his personal liberty and is not delivered to the Government of the United States of America", states the agreement.

The judge scheduled the incidental hearing for January 3, 2024, where he will determine if he will grant the definitive suspension.

Last November, the Fourth District Court of Amparo in Criminal Matters in Mexico City granted him a flat suspension so that the Attorney General's Office (FGR) would not hand him over to the United States, since he is accused of being the head of security for the Sinaloa Cartel, currently headed by the sons of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán.

On that occasion, the Fourth District Judge in Criminal Matters, María del Carmen Sánchez Cisneros, who granted the injunction, argued that such suspension will not take effect if the order was issued by authorities other than those indicated as responsible or if it was executed prior to the filing of the lawsuit.

El Nini has been identified by Mexican and U.S. authorities as being in charge of various cells responsible for the security of Guzmán Loera's children and also for heading a group of Sinaloa Cartel members who ship drugs into U.S. territory.

The US government offered a reward of three million dollars in exchange for information leading to the arrest of El Nini and also brought criminal charges before US judges for being involved in the shipment of fentanyl to US territory by Ovidio Guzmán.

Among those he was in charge of protecting in the Sinaloa Cartel are Ivan Archivaldo and Jesus Alfredo Salazar, sons of Joaquin El Chapo Guzman.

According to Mexican government investigations, El Nini, 30, was in charge of deploying cells of hitmen in October 2019, when for the first time, Mexican authorities had captured Ovidio Guzmán and after generating acts of violence in different points of the Sinaloa capital the drug trafficker was released.

However, in January of this year, El Nini and his groups of hired killers were unable to prevent the arrest of Ovidio Guzmán, although the violent actions that ensued left 29 people dead, 19 of them identified as hired killers, and ten members of the Armed Forces lost their lives.
