What Is "Polvo Rosa", The New Highly Addictive Drug Sold in Mexico?

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Video translation is as follows:

A powerful drug with more addictive effects and seven times more expensive than regular cocaine has been detected for sale in Mexico. It is the pink powder also known as Venus, Eros, Tussibe, Nexus, or Coca Rosada. It has a high addictive power and its effects are comparable to other psychoactive substances such as methamphetamine, ecstasy or LSD. The sale of this drug was first detected in the South American market and in Mexico.

Several doses have already been confiscated in Playa del Carmen Quintana Roo. The Municipal Police arrested a man of American origin with 12 doses of this powder. He was identified as Lawrence 'N' and was handed over to the authorities. The consumption of the pink powder has become popular among people who already use other types of drugs.

It alters the senses and causes visual and mind hallucinations. The user experiences a feeling of exaggerated strength, nervousness, and excitement. Its effect lasts between 4 and 8 hours. However, in the long term it causes anxiety attacks, disorientation, extreme tiredness, dependence, depression and various psychotic disorders.

    1. You mean “Tuci” which yes, is coke mixed with 2CB (a synthetic hallucinogen)

I’m more curious about “Lavanda/Lavada” … which is colored and flavored cocaine (banana, strawberry, etc) 🦉

    2. It's not lavanda. It's called lavado or lavada wich means washed. It's cocaine that is distilled with gasoline. The end result, if done properly, is cocaine that looks like powdered sugar and doesn't burn the nose when inhaled. It is almost odorless and stronger effects too. The flavors are added because originally people that bought it for the first time, would say to the dealers that it wasn't real cocaine since it didn't smell like anything. Dealers wouldn't be able to sell it to first time customers so they added the novelty of a nice fruity odor and flavor. Color thing is just for looks.

    4. @630 — that’s the original lavanda… today they do add fruit flavorings…

Bro do you have any earthly idea how low quality cocaine has to be for it to actually “burn”? Even mediocre coke does the opposite and numbs your shit. If your coke burns when you snorted it then it is beyond terrible in terms of quality. Just sayin.

Also when we’re talking about cocaine that is “washed”.. does that not almost invariably refer to coke that’s been acetone washed? Because when someone brings up washing or “washed coke”; they pretty much always mean acetone washing which further purifies it (for the most part). At least that’s what it means in the countries that are actually snorting most of the coke (America, Canada, U.K., etc.)..

    9. Ya if coke burns its likely adulterated with methamphetamine. Meth burns the nasal cavities and is commonly added to shit quality cocaine to boost the stimulant effect at a cheaper cost than selling higher purity coke. Of course meth lasts way longer than coke too, so if 4 hours later your still feeling “up” theres likely been some meth cut into your yay.

      Delete
    10. 2:35 yeah but hexen is a much more common cut for coke. Meth or other amphetamines makes it a little too obvious. Amps will tear your nose up way faster than coke too.

    3. 159; Not molly/xtc. It’s here in South Texas too and has been for a year or longer - so hard to believe it is “new to Mexico.
It also doesn’t have coke in it (here) b/c it doesn’t numb the nostrils / throat and it lasts a lot longer. If it had coke you’d be wanting another line in 30-45 mins

      Delete
    4. 5:54 so how long does it last then? Because that can be a pretty big clue for what it is, other than the actual effects. And I assume you’re talking about snorting it because cocaine taken orally lasts about an hour instead of snorting which lasts 10 - 20 min.

  4. It was first created in 1974. It was popular in the festival scene in the 2010s. Interesting to see the cycle it is in. It used to be a white powder or a liquid, now it’s pink. Really popular in Colombia and Spain

    1. It’s been popular in culichi for a while

    2. I think it’s popular because it’s a short, yet strong, high/hallucination… and likely heightens the euphoria when mixed with coke

      Delete
    3. ok but as others have stated; “tucibi” does not actually refer to the psychedelic phenethylamine known as 2cb. “Tuci” in Colombia is just a loose/umbrella term for a type of pink powdered substance that is literally always a mixture of multiple drugs; usually MDMA, ketamine and oxy/fent apparently, along with 1 or 2 other drugs. Some say LSD is a common admixture too but I’m fairly skeptical of that claim. Tuci is a mixture of drugs though either way.

      Delete
    4. 6:19: exactly, I don’t who started says it’s spanish for 2cb. It’s possible it could have some in it, but like you said it’s a mix and every dealer can have a different mix. These people should ask a Columbian or check out a couple vice reports where they talk to dealers down there while they’re making it. Inform b4 assumption. The info from the source is right there.

    1. MDMA is a psychedelic-amphetamine, so it CAN cause you to trip.. but most people experience “brighter/warmer visuals”

    2. I’ve taken massive amounts of mdma and ecstasy and I’ve never hallucinated that’s crazy

    3. 11:28 what’s interesting is people actually report very high doses of MDMA produces visuals that are more akin to deliriants rather than psychedelics.

      Delete
    4. @4:15 An MDMA roll is definitely not a “trip”, even when visuals are present. Tripping is more of a mental thing.

  9. The first time I ever did MDMA aka ecstasy was in Playa Del Carmen, summer 1995. Our hookup was a Mexican lady who did massages at Osho in Tulum. (It was way way smaller back then.) It was at least 140-150 mg ecstasy, came on so strong. And definitely a candy flip, it contained a small dose of LSD as well, cause my brain knows acid. The visuals were lovely and lasted a good 12 hours. The next day we all felt fantastic. A blue and white capsule, it was like US $12 at the time. One of the best trips of my life.

    6. Honestly, MDMA mixed with LSD like that sounds horrible.. You’d be crashing from the MDMA by hour 5/6 while still in the middle of an LSD trip where your emotions and sensitivity/sensibilities are greatly enhanced; making you even more painfully aware of the dreaded MDMA crash and depression that comes with it. It’s a recipe for a miserable trip tbh. And taking more MD at that point would be the only realistic way to get out of it. There’s a reason ppl who “candyflip” pretty much always wait until well into an LSD trip before taking MDMA. You never ever take them at the same time. Ever.. You do not want to have an MDMA comedown in the middle of a trip on a major psychedelic like L.

And to anyone reading; NEVER mix MDMA with ayahuasca for any reason at all. Ayahuasca’s MAOIs + MDMA is straight up dangerous.

    7. Hm that sounds expensive for ‘95 even in the states let alone in Mexico. Maybe you’re paying for convenience too but seems a little odd. Unless you mean that was the total price for 2 or more people.

    1. How did they “ruin” the meth game? Are you referring to enantiomeric/stereospecific purity or what?

      Delete
    2. @640 — cartel meth isn’t made with real ephedrine..

      Delete
    3. 10:02 I know, that was my point. So they are referring to stereospecificity no? I think biker gangs can be blamed for that trend. Also I have to imagine some meth there in Mexico is still made using ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. It can’t be 100% that’s made from a P2P cook. 10 years ago it was only like 30 to 40% that was made using P2P instead of the aforementioned precursors.

  13. The original psychedelic form Tucibi is based on hearkens back to 1974 and was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin. The modern form known as Tucibi is a recent knock-off version. While the original is both an hallucinogen and stimulant, the modern variant could be either, something else, or a conglomeration of whatever a drug dealer happens to have on hand.
The national institutes of health released the abstract below recently
A drug concoction called tusi has reemerged in Latin America and in Europe and is now beginning to acquire popularity in the United States. "Tusi" is a phonetic translation of "2C," a series of psychedelic phenethylamines. The concoction is also sometimes referred to as "pink cocaine" as it typically comes in the form of pink powder. However, despite its name, the concoction rarely contains 2C series drugs. Multiple drug checking studies have found that the majority of tusi samples contain ketamine, often combined with 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methamphetamine, cocaine, opioids, and/or new psychoactive substances. The tusi phenomenon complicates the drug landscape because it has the potential to confuse both people who use it and researchers alike. People using may think the drug is 2C/2C-B, and they may also be unaware that the concoction tends to consist of ketamine and a wide variety of other drugs. Unintentional exposure to its contents can lead to increased risk of adverse effects. The tusi phenomenon also has the potential to complicate drug research as unknown exposure to drugs like ketamine and MDMA will lead to underreporting of use. A combination of self-report and toxicological testing may be needed to inform the most accurate estimates of use. Both researchers and people at risk for use need to be informed about this new concoction. Drug researchers need to be cognizant about the way they query use, and people at risk for using need to be educated about the possible contents of tusi and associated dangers.
