Narcoblockades in El Grullo & Autlan, Jalisco

"HEARST" and "Huaso" for Borderland Beat

At least two cartel road blockades have appeared in the municipalities of Autlán de Navarro and El Grullo, in the state of Jalisco.

The Roadblocks

It is currently unclear why the two roadblocks have been erected although the news publication El Occidental is currently reporting that there are Army and Navy personnel currently in the area.

One of these roadblocks was created by commandeering a school bus. The bus was then set on fire at El Corcovado bridge, on Highway 80 in Autlan de Navarro.

A truck was also commandeered and burned on the bridge at a later point.

The other was created by burning a large cargo truck at the intersection of Puerta de Barro and Las Pilas in El Grullo municipality. The El Grullo police department released a statement confirming the location of the two roadblocks.

The Context of the Region

The municipality of El Grullo has a long history with CJNG. In 2012, the El Grullo police chief, Sergio Hernandez Gonzalez was alleged to be a leader of CJNG, according to El Universal. He was later implicated in the death of a nearby mayor in 2014 and disappeared.

In 2015, CJNG members used an RPG to shoot down a military helicopter, killing five soldiers who were conducting an operation against the CJNG in the nearby town of Villa Purificación, reported InSight Crime.

During this incident, the CJNG also erected at least 40 narco blockades in the region as they attempted to thwart the government operation, according to BBC Mundo.

In 2020, Mexican press reported that El Mencho, who suffers from kidney issues, was building a hospital for himself in the municipality of Villa Purificación, Jalisco, as reported by Borderland Beat.

All accounts show that this region in Southern Jalisco is deeply controlled by the CJNG, and suggest that it is considered crucial to CJNG leadership.

Information Trickling In

Newspaper Mural reports that the road blockades were created at the break of dawn this morning, on Saturday, January 28, 2022.

Zeta Tijuana writes that the blockades were first reported to the emergency phone line at around 6:00 am.

The state’s head of Public Security, Letra Fría, also confirmed the location of the road blockades and announced that state police (in conjunction with other agencies) were working to clear the roadways.

Weekly magazine Zeta Tijuana wrote that “Although the reason for the blockades is still unknown, unofficial versions of the story allege there was an arrest of an important member of organized crime, without any authority confirming this action.”

The twitter account Notiface alleges there was “a shootout between criminals and the National Guard that ended in blockades with trucks and buses burning.”

Milenio newspaper writes that “state authorities reported that National Guard personnel who patrol the municipality of Atengo were attacked by a group of cartel hitmen who were driving a white pick-up truck, who then fled the area and could not be found.”

  1. Oohhh they’re close to someone big. I’m from Tonaya which is 15 mins farther up the mountain, you’ll remember the helicopter that was shot down was here, there’s a federal memorial for the soilders that died that day right before you enter the town. There’s definitely a lot of his relatives around here everyone knows. Especially his brother he’s the one that runs this whole region. Check out the map keep going from tonaya and you’ll find Los asmoles and a lot of cartel activity (labs, grows, sicario training, etc.it’s. It not unusual to see his brother or even him before at regular events like Toros and shit.

    2. Which brother are you referring to? Abraham Oseguera? Could also be that they arrested “Meno” Pelayo Pelayo. He’s jefe regional for Villa Purificacion and surrounding municipios.

    4. 5:09 stop drinking the koolaid there's nothing good about CDS. CjNG is a horrible cartel but so is CDS and there's nothing more dangerous then the lesser of the evil. The only good cartel member is a dead or locked up cartel member. I can't wait for Ovidio to land in the US he could have gone to any school of his liking but he chose to be a drug lord. I would be so far ahead in life if some one paid for my school

    5. 5:40 CDS are scumbags but CJNG are way worse people in zacatecas refer to CDS as los buenos and to CJNG as los malos. CJNG has killed a lot of inocentes for fun.

    6. 5:40 either u know nothing about what u talking about or u just a cheerleader loser clapping for cjng, nobody said cds is a good cartel but in Zac is obvious the difference, I know cause I'm from there...are u??I don't think so so STFU.... I can't wait til the day one of those clowns u cheering for kidnap n dismember one of ur family members in front of a camera

    7. 1:18 One thing i can honestly say about CDS is that they are masters at brain washing ifnorant people, making them believe they are "the good cartel" shit they have killed probably more innocent people than any other cartel, but always pin in on the rival cartel, i mean we dont really have to go back to long, what happened when the 2 times Ovidio got caught? I still dont see any difference between the Cds and CJNG if you do well i got news for you, you got brain washed

    8. 3:20 thats really fucked up, wishing someone the worst so you can prove your point, its like some one wishing CDS rapes and kill all your underage daughters so you can believe CDS are at the same level of CJNG, but i wont wish you that, yes CJNG are more public about their violent acts but whatever henious acts they are doing CDS has also done them, so at the end they are both the same shit, one with a little bit of perfume so they dont stink as much but at the end they both are pieces of shit

It's funny how you have many people, still want to believe Mencho is alive.
Since then many want to keep a tight lip, and act as if he alive. CJNG is being run within family.

    3. I'll give credit when credit is due...tho CJNG had bn on the scene somewhat as a regional enforcer group for CDS..No one knew.. it seems not even the government at this point...It was Chivis emphasized how CJNG was a growing national threat and how they'd be more violent and organised than the Zetas, she practically predicted this exact outcome..tbh at the time I didn't understand as the only indication how bad this would get was the rolling stone article (I think) that stated how CJNG had grown in the shadows to be the richest cartel by focusing on the European Market which hd less seizures n more profits..in my opinion this seemed like a better M.O. and it kept them off the DEAs radar n they weren't involved in as many battles for plazas I've always wondered why the smaller groups don't follow that same M.O...kudos to u guys for keeping this site running after all these years

    4. 4:57 correct I remember back in 2014/2015 chivis 100% warned people about CJNG

      Delete
    5. Chivis used to be like a publicist for CDS on here. Her belief in the Autodefensas was puzzling because everyone in Michoacán knew their were crooks.

      Delete
    6. 4:57 stop with the missinformation, CJNG was never under CDS, having a truce is not the same as working for CDS, people who claim CJNG worked for CDS have no clue of what they are talking about and have no credibility on what they write, Hearts you should do a post of where CJNG actually came from so that this guys get a real clue of how they started, starting from one of the most secret cartel Cartel del Milenio, thats how CJNG came to be

      Delete
    7. 4:57 I think the Europe market theory is made up. In southern zacatecas Cjng are behaving worse than Zetas they rob grocery suppliers they extort pharmacies grocery stores and charge $ ranchers for every head of cattle sold.

    8. @12:48 go and read what was written 1st Enforcer group doesn't necessarily mean they were under CDS as we've seen in numerous cases with other larger cartels including the "almighty" CJNG..using smaller regional cartels/groups through some sort of pacts/agreements, the details of which NONE of us no about until they fall apart and narcomantas and headless corpses start appearing..Now you my friend seem to have some kind of inside knowledge.. do u care to enlighten us "clueless" folks..lol "came from from one of the most secret cartels" just gives off fanboy vibes whilst you're statement is partially correct it's very vague but yet you speak of misinformation..telling "Hearts" to write some cartel fairytale u got in ur head based on what facts.. what sources.. yours?..@1:25 I think u misunderstood what I said..that was their M.O. in the past when they seemed to have a low profile whilst still generating massive sums of money according to the DEA..I don't get the impression that was from extortion..they probably did to some degree who knows..but now present day they seem to be just as bad or even worse than Zetas more ruthless, violent and even better equipped..not sure about the extortion aspect..do u live in South Zacatecas? if u do I'm sure you'd have a clearer picture/understanding than me whilst there's bn some useful comments posted from ppl that live in places controlled by CJNG its impossible to verify these comments

    9. 5:45 😂 fairytale? Look man i lived in the area where all this cartel worked and got along well, even had a causin working for LFM (by the way he got wacked by CJNG when the war broke out thanks to Chapo's failed attempt to kill Mecho) any ways its common knowledge around my area that CDS and CDM just like LFM, CDG and other smaller cartels like Carte de los güeros got along, actually work with each others, CDM was actually Nachos meth provider, they would sell nacho meth by tons and nacho would use CDS routs to send it up north, thats the reason why Nacho was known as El Rey Del Cristal, any ways CDM would stay low key in terms of sending jale to the US and catching any heat they rather send merca to Europe (less heat and bigger revenues) thats how they worked and it payed big time for them, but like i said before thanks to Chapo trying to kill Mencho all of those pacts between cartels broke and a new narco war started, and CJNG was born when all the CDM bosses got caught, its really not that hard to understand, its just that people like to go by fake corridos instead of actual facts, look here girl im just trying to educate some of you guys who dont really know facts, but if you dont want to learn i can't make you 👍
