Genaro Garcia-Luna Accused of Stealing $600 Million from Mexican Government

"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

Genaro García Luna, Secretary of Public Security in the six-year term of Felipe Calderón, is said to have received millions of dollars from the Sinaloa Cartel between 2000 and 2019.

Genaro García Luna, after retiring from public service in the Mexican federal government in 2012, continued to collaborate with the Sinaloa Cartel and fill his pockets with drug money, as notified by the United States Department of Justice to Judge Brian Cogan. And although acts of corruption dot the governments of Vicente Fox and Enrique Peña Nieto, the core of the accusation is in what happened during the administration of Felipe Calderón. In this case, there will also be figures such as the 600 million dollars that García Luna allegedly stole from the treasury.

The argument was given by US federal prosecutors, led by Breon Peace, in opposition to the defense who asked Cogan to prohibit "the wealth and luxuries" that his client accumulated after 2012 as evidence.

"The Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) - of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico (SHCP) - reports that García Luna stole $250 million while he was Secretary of Public Security," the prosecutors quoted in the letter delivered to Cogan.

In another sealed document, which is attached to the letter, prosecutors deliver detailed information regarding the defendant's finances to the Eastern District Federal Court in Brooklyn, New York.

In the lawsuit filed in Miami, Florida, which is on hold for now, due to his trial in Brooklyn, by the Mexican government against García Luna and his partners from a security consulting firm, it is indicated that the “theft” exceeds $250 million.

"Throughout his career as a public servant in the federal government, García Luna stole $600 million," says the investigation.

Friend, adviser, right-hand man, and Secretary of Public Security of former President Felipe Calderón, García Luna was also director of the now-defunct Federal Investigation Agency in the presidency of Vicente Fox, also a PAN member.

Peace exposed Judge Cogan – in charge of the drug trafficking trial against García Luna, which began on Monday the 9th – that in his courtroom and before the jury they will prove to him how the defendant continued to receive money from the Sinaloa Cartel for drug trafficking in 2012 to 2019.

García Luna's financial history involves mysterious transactions that US prosecutors promise to prove in relation to the international transfer of narcotics.

For example, the FIU reports that, when García Luna was Secretary of Public Security, transfers were made from government accounts under his charge or under his supervision to bank accounts established in financial institutions in Panama, Caribbean countries, and Israel.

Documents on the millionaire deposits and payments that would add up to the $600 million looted from the Mexican treasury are part of the evidence that the United States government allegedly has in its possession thanks to its collaboration with the SHCP.

  1. Insane amounts of money this corrupt traitor took from his country. Who is worse? A corrupt official or the narcos themselves? One sells products that poison the population but knowingly knows what he is when he looks in the mirror while other swears to his country he is battling and serving right from wrong while poising the population.

    1. The government is worse, because they go all pig taking payments for anything, so in turn, the trafficker thinks they can get away with anything through their payouts .... When of the government wasn't so corrupt and didn't take bribe and put the traffickers away it wouldn't be going on to this extent that it is .... But who is gonna turn down $10 or $20 million to look the other way .... Maybe 1% would if that

    2. Exactly, the war against evil and crime is already lost for the Mexican citizens by the politicians in office. Left/ Right it doesn't make any difference. They are all freemason satanic scum-bags. They (the elites) all conspire against their citizens. Trators to God and Humanity. Hope la Barbie puts the nail into this scum his coffin.

    3. Look what's actually happening in El Salvador with a non-corrupt government. Guess they have a good chance to solve their decade old problems.

    4. Adding to my comment that the government is worse .... That's why they don't pursue these people as hard and extradite, because they are afraid of the info those traffickers have and that they could possibly be exposed ..... Money makes people do weird things ....

    1. Exactly. Every single Mexican president and governor in Mexico robs and takes millions. It's been happening since the Spaniards arrived and set up the system to rob Mexico easier. Things are the same. The only president that I know that never stole from Mexico is Lazaro Cardenas. All the rest have been crooks

    1. @4:05 GERONIMO lead a hardlife and fought with what he could for as long as he could, his body was desecrated. Who did it why?
Pancho Villa fought with what he could for as long as he could, his body was desecrated. Who did it. Why?

The times of being an ace militant and a political science scholar is over.
Young men die fighting old mans war.
Most people in the military don't have resources to be fed, clothed, educated and have healthcare. It's something some men accept as survival, others love it to death. Then there's the ones who's mind and body make them excel in service, and it becomes their career.
Politicians can make their deals under the table to keep the appearance of honesty while gaining tax breaks and properties. Meanwhile the Generals cut deals with the underworld, all the guys who actually risk it all.
But at the end of it all armed forces and politicians report to each other and they lie to one another all the time, it's a game. They are on the same side. Any deals any one has with a criminal civilian is a different side and it's understood.
The Generals really have it better, all their gains are unaccounted and they still receive resources from the nations military/defense budget that is also unaccounted for.
What would you do, live a life day by day running out every week and being at peace, or trying to study and start a business and hope it does well and have a clean conscience?

Or live any of the miserable lives of people that dedicate themselves to every operation of illicit material, and are wealthy but have a dirty conscience and don't know when their actions will catch up to them or their families?

So drugs don't keep the country going all the narcos are expendable, the law makers and the keepers of security and order keep the infrastructure and commerce going, that's why.
