Zapopan, Jalisco: Properties The U.S. Wants To Confiscate From Caro Quintero

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Video translation is as follows:

Raúl Torres: Two apartments in this middle-class building, this house looks neglected, another looks abandoned, both of high economic level. And this commercial warehouse remains closed. Authorities want to take that away from the capo and many agree.

Male citizen #1: If that's illicit money well, obviously confiscation is fine.

Raúl Torres: The five properties are in Zapopan, Jalisco. High plus value places in Mexico. According to the Mexican authorities, they are in the name of Elizabeth Caro Elenes. Wife of the Narco of Narcos Caro Quintero. And her children Héctor, Roxanna, Henoch, and Mario (Héctor Rafael, Roxana Elizabeth, Henoch Emilio, and Mario Yibran).

The Prosecutor's Office asked a judge to hand them over to the United States government. But citizens here say that the benefits should stay in Mexico.

Male citizen #2: Some citizens have suffered damage in a Mexican city. Therefore these assets must reintegrate with the citizenry of Mexico.

Raúl Torres: Caro Quintero captured last Friday was one of the most wanted criminals by the United States anti-drug agency. For drug trafficking and for the murder of agent Enrique Camarena Salazar in 1985. A court in New York ruled that the defendant's properties are to be seized and condemned for the use and benefit of the United States. According to analysts, Mexico will not deliver them.

David Saucedo: They should invest in drug use prevention programs in Mexico.

Raúl Torres: The value of Caro Quintero's properties was not disclosed. But it is not the first time that drug dealers' assets have been seized and then auctioned or raffled off.

This house belonged to Amado Carrilo aka El Señor de los Cielos, they raffled it off. Its value is four million five hundred thousand dollars. This one belonged to Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, auctioned for one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars. The money stayed in Mexico.

Female citizen #3: We have needs, we have a high rate of poverty here.

Raúl Torrez: The United States, in addition to the properties, also wants his extradition.

  1. Lol. Good luck with that. If anything AMLO will do as he was doing in the past with confiscated properties and turn them into trade schools, elementaries or clinics.

  2. That's crazy!!! So the U.S. thinks it could just waltz into any country and ask for properties to be confiscated and turned over to them???!!!! Way out. Properties on Mexican soil should stay in Mexican hands, along with the money and/or any financial benefits

  5. PROPERTIES! Credibility, Sol, comes from consistently getting details such as spelling and punctuation correct. Don't blame it on the translation either.
