La Kena Attempted to Overthrow The Heir Apparent of CDG - Matamoros: Axel Alfredo Cárdenas, Son of El Contador

"HEARST" for Borderland Beat

In the wake of the 16 narco blockades which held the city of Matamoros at a near standstill yesterday, as covered in more detail here, new rumors about what caused the Gulf cartel (Cártel del Golfo, CDG) hitmen to react with the force that they did.

On Sunday June 19, 2022, while Matamoros was gripped by a series of rumors about what had caused the road blockades. Initially, there was talk that one of the current leaders of the CDG - Matamoros faction named José Alberto Garcia Villano, alias “La Kena”, codename “Ciclon-19”, had been arrested.

Then talk shifted to the person arrested not being Kena, but instead a son of the former Matamoros faction leader, José Alfredo Cárdenas Martínez, alias “El Contador” or The Accountant.

El Contador was recently arrested in February 2022, ending his reign as leader of the Matamoros faction. Then talk seemed to settle on the identity of the detainee being Víctor Hugo Téllez Candon, “El Chaparro”, who is in charge of security for the sons of El Contador.

The Overlooked Sons

42 year old El Contador is the son of Agustín Cárdenas Guillén who is one of the many brothers of Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, the former leader of CDG.

During Osiel’s reign in the Gulf Cartel, two of Osiel’s nephews worked directly under him. They were: Rafael Cárdenas Vela, alias “El Junior”, as well as El Contador.

El Contador was arrested in April 2004 in Metepec, in the State of Mexico but he was eventually released from jail after his legal team argued that his arrest had been performed in an illegal manner. A federal judge conceded and approved the quiet release of El Contador from custody. Contador much later went on to become the leader of the Matamoros Faction of the CDG, at least until he was arrested in February 27, 2022.

Following El Contador’s arrest, the newspaper Milenio speculated about who was likely to take over his position within the cartel. In an article published on February 27, 2022, Milenio wrote of Contador that “after his arrest, it is presumed that control of said organization would be inherited to his sons, identified as Axel Alfredo and Alán Alexis, in complicity with José Alberto, alias Kena 19  and/or Titán 3 , a trusted man of Cárdenas Martínez.”

Social media account Narcoguerra MX makes similar claims to Milenio, writing that Axel Alfredo Cárdenas has been the co-leader of the Matamoros Faction alongside Kena 19. This account added that Axel Alfredo Cárdenas is a member of “Grupo Titanes” and he has the alias “Titán 7” as well as “El Hijo Major”, referring to his status as heir apparent to the organization his father recently led.

The account Narcoguerra MX alleges that El Kena set a trap for Titán 7, setting him up to get arrested by federal authorities in order to seize sole control of the Matamoros Faction. According to his claims, Titán 7 managed to escape arrest (or alternately, bribed his way out of being arrested) but his head of security, Victor Hugo Tellex Cando, alias “El Chaparro”, along with three bodyguards were taken into custody.

Thus, there may have been some involvement on the part of all parties who were rumored to have been the one detained.

  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Hearst is a rock star! Axel Alfredo Cardenas wasn't on my radar at all but in hindsight it makes total sense, kind of remind me of when Mario Cardenas Guillen started setting up his son El Betito to take over. I would dare to speculate that El Contador is still running things to a certain extent from prison and entrusted El Kena to teach Axel but now we will see how things play out with this rumored betrayal.

  2. Golfos being golfos🤔.

    1. From what I'm reading Narcoguerra MX is alleging this and it was reported as such so no surprise no other news outlets have it out yet. It's still early, it may be something that plays out and it may not but I'm glad it got mentioned.

    2. I'm going to take it with a grain of salt untill something more definite comes out. Rumors run rampid on the internet and everywhere else. Look at Metro 3's murder. For years everyone thought it was R1 who had done it. Now supposedly it was Panochitas that had him killed by X20 and put the blame on R1 and I can't remember who else. That pos💩 was poison for CDG. Supposedly he smutted up Gringo Mike and a few other heavy comandantes who got killed during that internal house cleaning (or whatever you want to call it) in 2012. That weakened them and was the beginning of their internal conflicts. And now Panochitas is taking the stand on some of them in court. He's complete garbage.

    4. @8:37 Completely agree with what you are saying. I'm glad Hearst reported this as it's worth noting but like she said, it's being alleged by one source, so taking it with a grain of salt like you suggested is a good idea. It may turn out to be true or disinformation or a question mark that is never answered.

    5. Oye pa it is 1 cartel vato 🤦‍♂️ que pendejo jaja it's just like a gang you have 1 gang but a few clicks within it. Which each has its respected job. Problem is that some gain power and believe they should be the boss because they making the strongest play. That being said some also understand that there shouldn't be so many smaller groups which is why there is no longer as of this year Bravos they now entered into a larger group.

    1. Fair enough. I was hesitant about posting it without other sources claiming the same, but Itzli encouraged me to post it, believing it was important to mention.

    2. @ 9:25 We are all entitled to our own opinions but, with all due respect, I personally have to disagree with you on this.

My two cents, for what it's worth, is that all too often information is not clear enough to ever know completely if it is true or not. How many times did Chapo escape arrest? Many examples, like him with the prostitute that was reported on BB are rumors. La Barbie betraying El Barbas, rumor. Like it was said above, M3 killed by R1, rumor.

I do understand that we should be careful and not turn this into a tabloid page but there is a fine line between rumor and truth sometimes.

Maybe I am reading more into your words than I should, but you seem to be stating, or at least implying, that this information is not true. What leads you to that conclusion?

    4. Yeah, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the title of this story is stating it, there's no "posible" attempted or "likely" or anything that suggests opinion. But you're right Itzli, alot of these things we will never truely know. My respects to you and your journalism. You're one of the A1s on here in my opinion. Keep it coming and stay safe

That M-85/Chiricuas was arrested in Juriquilla, in the state of Queretaro by FGR agents.

  6. Malherbe is out. His daughters wedding was this weekend. I have a pic of him dancing but facing back. I think he had a few businesses open in Matamoros from what I remember from the old Bb forum with Bjeff / MX. Is he back in town?

  7. Preguntara para el foro. Alguien sabe quien es Metro 57? Me dijeron por ahí que es uno de los jefes en Reynosa.

    1. Are you sure they said 57? I know about a Metro-56 and Metro-58 but not a Metro-57.

I just did a search of Valor por Tamaulipeco for any mention of Metro 57 and didn't find anything. Sorry.
