Sinaloa Cartel Leaves Three Executed Men With Sign In Nuevo León

"HEARST" and "Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

The remains of three men were left on a road in General Zuazua municipality, just north of the major city of Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo Leon, along with narco message signs with threatening messages from the Sinaloa Cartel (Cártel de Sinaloa, CDS).

The Discovery

On the morning of December 17, 2021, a group of construction workers arrived for work on Roble Street, between Del Bosque Avenue and Álamo Street, located within the residential Portal del Norte subdivision, to the southwest of the town of General Zuazua.

The construction workers called the 911 emergency phone line and reported that “there were several people lying on Bosque Avenue.” Officers were sent to check on the reported location and they were able to confirm the discovery of three deceased men, along with a narco message sign.

A police source reported to Sur Acapulco newspaper that the deceased men were found to have their hands and feet bound, as well as displaying signs of torture and coup de grâce (killing shots to the head). Their bodies were said to be wrapped in clear plastic.

The bodies were accompanied by an orange narco message sign. Photos that are alleged to depict this sign read as follows, as translated by Sol Prendido:

This message goes out to all the "chapulines" (literally "grasshopper", this is a slang term for an individual that jumps from group to group). The clean up has begun. Pure Sinaloa.

Sincerely,

Commander Cano

The discovery of these three bodies took place just hours after Nancy Gutiérrez took office as Zuazua mayor after winning the election back in November.

Social media user AsesinoZombies writes that the “Comandante Cano” who signed the narcomanta allegedly refers to Alan Ervey Juarez Castillo, alias “El Cano”.

According to narcomantas and arrests from the last few years, cartel groups who work under CDS, the Northeast Cartel (Cártel del Noreste, CDN), Gulf Cartel (CDG), Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and remnant groups of the Beltran Leyva Organization (BLO) (such as the hitmen arrested in the Monterrey area this year), are all present in the area around Monterrey.

The Cartel Landscape Around Monterrey

This is not the first time in recent months that CDS has been public about their operations in the region surrounding Monterrey, which is a major metropolitan city and center of commerce for northeast Mexico.

On September 16, 2021, CDS men gave a shout out to “El Rodo”, a local cartel leader who they are allied to, saying: We are the Cartel de Sinaloa. And this greeting goes out to Rodó in the city of Juárez, Nuevo León. We are the absolute mob of Mayo Zambada. We are at your service, sir.”

El Rodo is believed to be the current leader of the “Cartel Independiente de Nuevo León”, or the Independent Cartel of Nuevo León which reportedly controls the municipality of Juárez and possibly holds influence in municipalities surrounding Juárez. For more details on this video and what is known about El Rodo, please see this previous story.

El Rodo’s group working under CDS demonstrates a common pattern which can be seen throughout Mexico: Local cartel cells, which have been active for decades, play a large role in the cartel landscape as they switch allegiances with national-level organizations (such as CDS, CJNG, CDG, etc.) or become completely independent.

In most cases these local groups then fight against the rivals of the national-level organization they now work under, however, it should be noted that they still originated locally and are not transplants being sent in from other states by the national-level organization.

This can be seen in places such as Mexico City, where Fuerza Anti-Unión is working under the CJNG, or in Tijuana, with Los Cabos, who had been working under CDS, switched to working under the CJNG, just to name a couple of the many examples available. then switching to working under the CJNG, just to name a few examples of many.
