Guasave, Sinaloa: José Gerardo Ríos Leader of Ecological Green Party Kidnapped

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Video translation is as follows:

Azucena Uresti: In Sinaloa, the leader of the Green Party José Gerardo Ríos Ibarra was kidnapped last night. An armed criminal cell intercepted him in Guasave when he was driving towards Los Mochis.

The politician was last seen yesterday at 10 in the morning. He left his house and his family lost contact with him. They asked the authorities for help. But later his car was found abandoned on the international highway Mexico 15.

It has been practically 24 hours since this occurred. It is said that he disappeared last night. And Ríos Ibarra continues to be missing.

Today an audio was broadcast where the political leader asks for help before being kidnapped. Apparently this message and voice that we are going to hear was the last communication from José Gerardo. Of whom until tonight I can say nothing is known.

José Gerardo: Dude, some armed men have me detained here. They need to send patrolmen over here or something. I'm here where the announcement for the city of Guasave begins. Where the small sign is next to the canal bro. It’s just to one side of the aqueduct. You should know which one I'm talking about.

Azucena Uresti: He asked for help, just as well he sent a text message. And he continues to be missing.
