In the era of the new president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the first murder of a journalist in the country was recorded, it is Jesús Alejandro Márquez Jiménez, killed in near Tepic, Nayarit; also near the small town of Patanal in the Municipality of Xalisco.
He was also activist of Morena and was candidate for regidor by Tuxpan, also known as "El Guamas", was murdered yesterday, Saturday. He was located in a cane field near Tepic Airport, and confirmed dead during this Sunday morning when family members recognized him in the Semefo.
Jesús Alejandro is the first journalist to be killed in the López Obrador era, one day after he took office as president of Mexico.
With 10 years of experience in the journalistic guild, he worked for eight years in the newspaper Crítica and two years on a news site of his own creation, Orión Informativo.
According to the investigation folder that the Nayarit Prosecutor's Office opened to clarify the murder, the last time he was seen alive was on Saturday afternoon when he and his family had finished eating at home, ie until this Sunday his relatives went to the SEMEFO to make the identification of the body.
Márquez Jiménez, known as "El Guamas", was the Managing Director of the newspaper Orion Informativo medio, which he founded more than a year ago.
He was also a candidate of MORENA in the last local elections for a councilor in the municipality of Tuxpan.
Norma Cardoso, a spokesperson for the House for Rights of Journalists, denounced Marquez’s murder, calling for journalists, human rights groups, and activist associations to combine forces in the face of impunity.
“Not only we, but also some associations, groups that support journalists, are demanding the state government more security for the exercise of journalism and also the comrades that we are in a network called immediate reaction or immediate response because we are contributing our little grain of sand, sharing our condolences, shock and justice also,” Cardoso said.

Marquez worked in collaboration with Digital Criticism as well as Orion Informativo for almost a decade. Six months ago, he was forced to visit Tecuala’s prosecutor’s office to respond to libel allegations issued by local administrative officials.
The human rights organization, Article 19, called on the Special Prosecutor’s Office in charge of crimes against the freedom of expression to bring justice to the Marquez family and double its efforts to protect journalists.
Last month, the Human Rights National Commission (CNDH) denounced the violent situation of journalism in Mexico during the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, pointing out that 21 have been missing since 2005 and there have been 52 attacks of media offices. No one has been sentenced for these last cases.

Looks like another CJNG hit. Nobody likes the CJNG and everyone is sick of their gay pride parades driving through town.

ReplyDeleteHe actually disappeared under Peña's watch.
Can anyone tell me how many journalists have been murdered in Mexico so far for 2018. According to CPJ, there are 5? I thought there were a lot more? That’s fucking terrible either way but I still thought there were more. There’s actually 4 listed on their website but I’ve included this gentleman also.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that I just read the number is 10; just hideous. Can't remember the source off hand , but I am quite sure that was the number.
