Zetas falling like a house of cards

Two more Zetas leaders captured in Nuevo Leon

Translated for Borderland Beat from a Proceso article by Otis B Fly-Wheel

Monterry N.L.

Federal forces detained in three operations in Nuevo Leon, two leaders of Los Zetas, one of them a Municipal Policeman from Monclova, they operate in drug trafficking in Coahuila, informed today the Secretary of the Government (SEGOB).

In these actions, carried out on 16th of March in the Nuevo Leon Municipalities of Monterrey and Escobedo, elements of the Marines and Semar took down two men and women of the same criminal group, See Link.

The detained are Artemio Olvera Garza, 40 years of age, and his financial operator Severo Gonzalez Lunas. Olvera Garza was a Municipal Policeman in Monclova, Coahuila, and led a Zeta cell in that Municipality as well as those of Cuatro Cienegas, Castanos, San Buena Ventura, Escobedo and Abasolo.

With him was captured Cristian Arias Valencia, 21 years of age, also a Municipal Policeman said the statement of the Federal Agency.

According to SEGOB, Olvera Garza worked at the side of Daniel Menera Sierra, another leader of the same band of criminals detained in San Pedro this past weekend.

The captures were made by Federal Forces headed by the Marines, in a joint investigation with the Secretary for the National Defence (SEDENA), SEIDO , the PGR and the Centre of Investigation and National Security (Cisen). Otis: looks like combined Mexican forces might actually be getting their shit together.

During these actions, were found four rifles and five handguns, magazine and ammunition, 40 wraps and four bags of Marijuana, 2000 wraps and 200 grams of Cocaine, and four vehicles.

The detained were put at the disposition of SEIDO.

The capture of the named criminals has incremented in Nuevo Leon since this past 4th of March, when in the Municipality of San Pedro Oscar Omar Trevino Morales " Z-42" was detained, the alleged overall leader of Los Zetas.

  9. I have been following this so called war on crime and noticed that the government takes turns with these cartels. First is the arellanos, tnen the familia michoacana, then it was mano con ojos, , then beltran layba, then zetas again, then after many years they get cds, now it's zetas turn again the only cartel that hasn't been touched is cjng! The whole time it gets really calm for thosr cartels and you don't hear much about them until out of nowhere they catch a lot of their main plaza leaders. Real

  14. I think cellphone data is more important than anything. So often it seems these mid level cartel players carry upwards of like 10 phones or even more. Certain phones are used to communicate with certain people and are constantly switched out as well, making the puzzle very difficult for law enforcement to put together. The key is when a boss is taken unexpectedly and those master phones are recovered. These are treasure troves of information when analyzed, you know people get real nervous when the boss goes down cuz they know their phone info is on there. They can dump that phone immediately and continue on with another but from that point the dots wouldn't be too hard to connect. And don't tell me about their private communication networks. If they're stupid enough to use these
they are most certainly being hacked and recorded. If the US is monitoring, tracking and storing the average American's phone calls and internet use daily I can assure you they are into these cartel networks and passing on the info to Mexican authorities. The US wont teach others like Mexico how to do this because they don't want them to know how they do it. Instead, they say " let us help you" and use their system and infrastructure to gather and collect data and then pass it on confidentially to Mexico for action on the ground. It's working well, obviously.

    1. The shot callers I knew used a burner blackberry, used blackberry messenger and the phone was untraceable and since the Canadians own blackberry they didn't allow the NSA to own their cell content. Also they use their own triple encrypted software, their own radio and cell towers.

    2. Excellent post, amigo. You sound very knowledgeable about how tracking "criminal suspects" works. In keeping with your perspectives, I know there are sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, mathematicians, and other scientific "nerds" who are probably working on phone and other communications data to generate (inductive processes) ideas (theories) that then are used to generate useful deductions. I am thinking, here, along the lines of the WW II "Enigma Machine" now intimately married to the social and behavioral sciences and modern computer technology.

Shit, with all the scientific and technological tools available today, I would not want to be involved in criminal activities of any consequences. The odds of eventually getting caught (or snuffed) have to be greater and greater as time goes by.

In addition to the purer "sciences" approach in catching criminals, we can add the older, but effective, methods of "manufacturing" snitches ... as for example, traditional "carrot-stick" methods of blackmailing, drugging, sexual favors, etc.

In my opinion, the combined array of tools to catch criminals is awesome and this one big reason that Mexico's law enforcement, criminal justice, and governmental systems MUST be CORRUPTED to protect the BIG FISH in the criminal (or quasi -criminal) games. The little fish can be sacrificed as they are easily replaced ... given Mexico's millions of under-educated and hungry people.

      Just my dos centavos

Everywhere around the world in countries where the "justice exist" they have been catching criminals since the times when the light didn't even exist! they didn't need no tech to catch or kill the criminals.

So. 2:09 is right about that somehow.
