Search Underway for Missing Citizens on Road That Connects Tamaulipas With Nuevo León

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

The federal government confirms that within six months there have been 71 cases, most of them cargo drivers or taxis; relatives of victims followed the operation by a video camera installed in a drone

On Wednesday, search work began at kilometer 26 of Federal Highway 85 Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo and its surroundings, where in recent six months at least 71 people disappeared, most of them Uber and cargo transport drivers.

At 7:30 in the morning, Tamaulipas search teams arrived at that point to begin tracking the disappeared.

The actions are part of the agreement reached last week by relatives of the victims and the Tamaulipas prosecutor's office, after a meeting to analyze the cases.

The families of the victims were able to follow the operation through a session via Zoom, whose signal was transmitted by a drone and cell phones of the participating officers.

The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that in the past six months 71 drivers have disappeared on that stretch of road. After presenting the biannual report on Search and Identification of Missing Persons, the agency considered that these events are part of the war between the Northeast Cartel (CDN) and  Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG).

The head of the National Search Commission, Karla Quintana, said that there are versions that 17 of those 71 people were released, but they have not confirmed this data.

"We are corroborating the number of people who have been released, but we cannot confirm it until we complete the protocol. We have talked to a person who was released, but we cannot release his identity, although it serves us to understand what is happening," he added.

The fact that the majority of the disappeared are drivers of cargo transport and Uber services or taxis in general suggests, the official said, that they use transportation services to differentiate their criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Human Rights of Segob, Alejandro Encinas, detailed that this situation began in the last months of 2020. For this reason a search operation has already been established around kilometer 26.

Close historical figure

The official specified that so far within this six-year term the disappearance of 49,581 people have been reported and although 28,35 were located, Mexico is already approaching the historical figure of 90,000.

He added that the official number of disappeared is 89,488, of which 24.70 percent are women, mostly girls and adolescents victims of the crime of trafficking in persons.

From 1964 to date (including the period of the dirty war) 220,330 missing persons are registered. Of that number, 40.6 percent are still haven’t been located, he explained.

As for the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), there is a figure of 21,546 missing people.

Encinas also detailed that 2,25 bodies have been exhumed in this administration, of which 1,153 were identified (38.11 percent) and 822 were delivered to their families (27.17 percent).

He warned that only 35 convictions have been achieved despite thousands of cases of enforced disappearance in the country, he warned that impunity remains the biggest problem in these cases.

Karla Quintana explained that the states that concentrate the highest number of reports of missing persons are Jalisco, Mexico City, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Sonora, Sinaloa and Zacatecas, with 76.33 percent of complaints from December 2018 to June 30, 2021.

  2. Question Sol...

Haiti's president got assassinated by maybe Mexican Mercenaries, do you think the president robbed Mencho of a couple loads and he sent the elite team on them? Just saying, don't play with that man's money, "he's got the whole world in his hands"...or was it a local matter using foreign Mercs.

    Just a thought.

    2. Well, unlike those Trump rioters these mercenaries actually had a plan. They even followed through with it. That’s what differentiates whiny civilians from military experienced hitters. More than likely someone outsourced that hit to further their own interests.

    4. Since we are of topic and I know about the haters in comments and this is Mexican stuff mostly do the same cartels operate in el Salvador. I'm on east coast and I'm the only white/native American in the roofing crews I work with but they have been the nicest bunch of fellow workers I've been around. They're Spanish is different from the Mexican guys I worked with in Atlanta. The bars are still off the chain though. Are they just a different cartel or does one of the cartels I read about here run that, because around D.C. it's decent.

    6. Yes I agree. Someone in their own camp did it, but using foreigners to make the hit was smart of them to avoid detection. El Mencho has many issues to deal with, I doubt it.
Could be the actual DEA. Who knows or a bad deal gone wrong.

    7. @4:14. I'm not white, but you may be an outlier. I knew a white contractor. He said he could not put a white man in his Mexican crew. They would think he's the laziest piece of shit. They didn't just pull this observation out of their asses.
I worked on fishing vessels in Alaska. You could count on a Mexican to shoulder his fair share and more.
Often, but not always, a white guy would hang back hoping the non-white crew would do all the heavy lifting.

    8. News flash from NBC world news, I am sure Dr.Sol expert on Criminology, will access more info. 6 suspects of the Haitian killing of president were killed, another 6 were captured, 1 being a US citizen, they did not yet disclose the others, I will be laughing if there were Mex involved, as they say in here.

  4. Stories like this make my flying from Oaxaca City, to Puerto Escondido/Playa Zicatela, a no brainer. In spite of forking out over $1000 USD each season it is money well spent. The fact I can make the trip via air in 25 minutes versus 6-8hrs on a hot, crowded, nausea inducing bus is just icing on the cake.

Back in high school me and my buddies would often drive across (Tijuana) the border and head south along the Pacific coast till we were exhausted, broke, or both.

Nowadays I wouldn't drive in MX in Sherman tank. Very sad. Puerto is such an awesome place. Pumping surf, ultra friendly locals, cheap eats, and scenery that is second to none. Yet if you cannot afford to fly you risk your life driving that far into MX.

    5. Well Dick at least if I die in Puerto I will die doing what I love doing. Rather die with my boots on, then hunched over a computer screen, blasting those with lives while you spend yours thinking your big shit POSTING ANONYMOUSLY on BB in between jerk sessions on Pornhubs gay site.

Maybe you misunderstood but I am opposite of cheap.. I pay the airfare vs caravaning. And finally I would bet $100 you have never even been near Puerto, which means on top of living in yo mamas basement, you are completely ignorant on the subject, yet think your post matters.
      Let me enlighten you jackass.
Puerto is quite literally paradise. The people are the absolute best. The scenery will rank with any place on earth. The surf is fantastic and horrifying all at once.
Quite literally, Playa Zicatela, is Nirvana.

I found mine brother. I suggest you quit wasting time rippin' those that do while you don't. Come on man live a little on the edge!! When the short bus comes to fetch ya leave the helmet at home!!!

  9. Trump was never capable of caring, but was great at lying. Say Trump did care . . . but he can't. He only gives a rat's ass about himself, everything else is collateral. When you demand something, you better deliver. Words are cheap but deeds are steep. Mexico is a great country. Proud, beautiful, rich in history, etc. and most of those that die in the current war, are narcos. Go to Mexico and travel, don't let your imagination get to you. Honor the truth
