Position of Government on Sentencing of Dámaso López Núñez, alias “El Licenciado”

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat

Most of El Lic’s documents are sealed.  The document below was filed by the government indicating sentencing considerations.  One can see why Lic would cut a deal.  My position has always been that entering into these agreements with narco leaders is a mistake and flies in the face of the work and money that goes into this so called drug war.  A failed war.  Deals should be scarce and not with top layer leaders.

  1. Mexico should charge him with organized crime once he is released so he can get what he deserves as a traitor

I could not agree more, but what is troubling is that what you state is common sense, right?

Hence, the official explanations aside, what do you think Chivis is the REAL reason that the US government keeps on offering such deals and thereby avoid going to court with testimonies and the truth coming out?

    1. I don't think there is one thing that can be pointed to as a real or sole reason. A plethora of reasons. One that is a huge factor is the fallacy of information which by the government champions certain policies. Take the opioid crisis. We knew for years the real culprit was fent in street drugs. combined with new regulations preventing docs --- responsible docs from writing scripts for chronic illnesses and cut short pain meds for cases with documented need.

      Where did these people go?

to the streets. And that beat goes on.

As for prosecutions. The money wasted for hype is tremendous. and complicated. Each tier has its own goal.

The agents for the most part are all in for good and honorable reasons. Talk to them, look what agent Steve has written and his fellow agents. How deflating it is to win the capture only to see a deal cut, and often great deals, money, citizenship, in the protected witness program.

      I hate all of it
