Castillo gets rid of the Apatzingan rural police

Self defense forces occupy Apatzingan government building

APATZINGAN.- Only a few months after starting operations, the Rural Police (Fuerza Rural) today ceased performing public safety functions in Apatzingan and Buenavista Tomatlan.

Federal Commissioner Alfredo Castillo reported that after this afternoon, the Army and Federal Police will be totally in charge of security in those locations. The same measure, he said, will be applied in the community of La Mira, Lazaro Cardenas municipality.

"The Mexican Army and the Federal Police will assume total control of security in three specific localities: in the municipality of Apatzingan, in the community known as La Ruana, Buenavista municipality, and in the community of La Mira," he indicated.

In a press conference, he pointed out that of the more than 20 communities in which the Rural Police (program) has been implemented, this measure only involves three localities. "They are three places where the (rural police) members and/or the former self defense forces did not understand the importance of respecting institutions and  of fostering an environment of calm and social tranquility", he declared.

Castillo lamented that groups exist that have interests other than stability and development of the state. "Specifically, there are special interests disguised as self defense forces ("autodefensas") that are fighting for control of Apatzingan, and other groups that are fighting over leadership in their region to try to establish narcotics laboratories or to take control of the minerals," he charged.

The official declared that armed groups will not be allowed to operate. "Not in these places nor in any other part of the State will a person be allowed to be armed; they will be arrested and turned over to the proper authorities," he warned.

Autodefensas prepare for 'war'

Far from surrendering their weapons, rival "autodefensa" groups say they are ready for a war in Tierra Caliente. Both sides accuse each other of having ties to organized crime and appear to be armed in this new struggle for control of the territory.

"Either they disarm Los Viagras, or they are going to have a war here," warned Aurelio Gomez, leader of the self defense forces in the community of Uspero.

In the interview, he accused authorities of allowing the other armed group to operate despite the alleged criminal ties of its leaders. "The government will make a mess if it tries to disarm us and allow them to continue operations. In that case, they'd better kill us," said this owner of fighting roosters, a friend of the armed group H3, led by Luis Antonio Torres, "El Americano".

Gomez stated that Los Viagras are tied to the Guerreros Unidos cartel and that their objective is to carry on the business of producing synthetic drugs as well as collecting protection money in the area.

The interview was given today to members of the media in Uspero , a town in the Paracuaro municipality.  Gomez was accompanied by relatives of 187 "autodefensas" arrested last year, accused of being members of Los Caballeros Templarios.

Fifteen kilometers away, people identified as belonging to Los Viagras have occupied the Apatzingan Government Building for the second consecutive day. Led by their leader, Nicolas Sierra Santana, they warned that they will not surrender their weapons until all the remaining leaders of the Tmplarios are eliminated.

"There are still many Templarios left, and we've got them close by," stated Sierra Santana.

Hung outside the municipal government building are signs and placards demanding the arrest of alleged Templarios, including their supreme commander, Servando Gomez, "La Tuta".

They also placed messages of support of the founder of the self defense forces, Hipolito Mora, who lost his son in a shootout on December 16 in La Ruana. A total of 11 people died in that gunfight and, according to Los Viagras, the attack was started by gunmen with "El Americano". Sierra commented that the takeover of the government building is to pressure federal authorities to reinforce safety in the area in view of the risk of a confrontation with the other armed group.

  1. It's time that the Mexican people realize their government has zero interest in their personal safety and they will actually take violent steps to remove the people's ability to protect themselves, just open your eyes and look around. As with most governments they believe the people are there to serve them and when they, the government, wishes the people ill will it's totally their prerogative. If it has not become clear to the people of Mexico that they are going to have to remove their government with force they are just keeping their head in the sand and they may as well hand over their weapons and allow the killing to go on with even a faster pace then before. I hope the people make the right choice and either all stand up and remove the government without bloodshed or those with the ability to bring the right forces together will take action to bring a government into power that actually give a damn about it's people, instead of how much money they can stuff their pockets with. The Mexican people are to fine a people for this kind of bullshit that's been happening to them to continue without end.

    1. STFU. Not all the governments are the same stupid. When a place is all fuckd up like mexico then is obvious that the. the gov. is not doing what they are suppost to have been doing. Seems like most of mx have never had a real gobierno. The majority of those so called politicians (CAUSE THE A GOV IS NOT ONLY ONE OR TWO PERSONS IDIOTS. THE IS ALSO THE OTHER "POLITICIANS" FROM THE REST OF THE STATES.) are/were nothing but thugs in disguise working/stealing with other criminals. Narcos, Extorters, Kidnappers etc..
That is why they ended up like that. Now their things can no longer be covered like they used to the stupid mexica are more aware now, or maybe they just decided to stop turning the blind eye... Since things got real ugly now...

    2. I agree with you but how would you propose they remove their government without bloodshed?.That is the BIG ????

    3. Mexicans have NEVER trusted their government, especially not now. I encourage you to ask ANY Mexican living in Mexico if they TRUST their government, I'll put money on it, 99% will say no. I'm not sure if you're a kid or simply out of touch with reality but revolution is NOT to be Romanticized. It's easier said than done. Revolution is always the last resort. Mexico has had plenty of revolutions in it's short years of existence. If anyone knows, Mexicans know how horrible a revolution is. Unfortunately to the people of Mx it's looking like the last resort, & it's on its way at this point.

Among the many compounding issues plaguing Mexico the citizens being disarmed was the catalyst to the narco country it has become honest people can't compete with Barrett .50 and 40 mic mics everyone has made a good point however at times it is necessary to destroy in order to rebuild but discretion is the better part of valor the ppl live this everyday so I agree the head of the snake is the government

    5. in mexico very few people can own weapons, since the times of the revolution, only since the 80's, police and military have allowed their friends to own and carry but never officially, there never was any generalized need for weapons, until the drug wars of the 80's between the DEA and the CIA in mexico required their respective sicarios to carry, and the mierda accords and other help the us sends to mexico has caused all this mayhem as a part of the Shock and Awing of Latin America/google

  8. one of two scenarios:

    A) Americano was originally working with tuta with viagras. the sierra santanas split from tuta to join CJNG . What they say can't be trusted as they want to throw off suspicion from them to other groups. Americano/viagras have become very strong with his alliance with mencho operating most the synthetic drug labs in Michoacán

    Or
    b) viagras actually betrayed cjng and have chosen to go with the weaker GU. the question is why would he do that? Americano/viagras sell their lab product to CJNG, CJNG does not operate them, so in essence mencho is the prime customer.

GU is under great scrutiny because of Guerrero events and federal deployment and pressure to take down the group associated with the igual mayor and his wife's family being GU. So why would viagras want that pressure? CJNG gave a large area of operation to viagras and the sierra Santana bros have had a long close relationship with, mencho. he is the godfather of a couple of the brothers.

    so it makes little sense,
but viagras have proven loyalty is not in their creed, so is it possible? surely so, but highly, highly unlikely.

  12. Is there any hope for Mexico ? Revolution? I doubt a bloody revolution would be a terrible event and probably weaken everything so much that the devil would have a stronger hold .
Some say if the USA legalizes drugs it will cut power to the cartels . I have a hard time believing these bands of machine gun toting cut throats will suddenly become good citizens when they cant traffic drugs or get paid by the cartels anymore . "Oh they were good boys but the drug money corrupted them and they started skinning peoples faces and dismembering them .
You have to admit that is quite a leap for a ordinary person .
In my opinion there are 2 things that prevent people from doing these kinds of acts . One is they have a conscious and have the ability to feel empathy for their fellow man . The 2nd is not wanting to suffer the repercussions or punishment of their acts . I have to believe that the country is run amuck with evil bastards that don't care .
As with any society most of the sociopathic assholes aren't even out there killing.
