Narco Singer Chuy Quintanilla Found Slain North of Mission Texas

Borderland Beat

Authorities are investigating the shooting death of narcocorrido singer whose body was found in an orchard north of Mission.
It all happened at a grapefruit orchard off Bryan Road north of FM 1925 at 6:15 a.m. Thursday.
Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office deputies were called out to the area to investigate a body found.
Sheriff Lupe Treviño told Action 4 News that the body found was that of singer Chuy Quintanilla.

Crime Scene
Workers found Quintanilla's body in a pool of blood next to a tan Chevrolet Tahoe.  Sheriff Treviño said Quintanilla had two bullet wounds to the head.
Deputies believe that Quintanilla was killed in the orchard and left to die next to the singer's SUV.
Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Luis Garza pronounced Quintanilla dead and ordered an autopsy to learn more about his death.
Investigators are taking tire prints in the area to get an idea of what vehicle the suspects were driving.

Family Members

Family members of the slain singer were at the crime scene and told Action 4 News that Quintanilla lived in Palmview.
The family members said they last heard from him on Wednesday evening and were not able to reach him on his cell phone Wednesday night.
Family members headed to the crime scene after they heard a body was found and saw his SUV in the orchard.

Quintanilla's musical career spanned decades but included singing "corridos" or "musical narratives" describing the exploits of Gulf Cartel leaders.

Below are NOTE: two of his narcocorridos below, the top video is  of Tony Tormento (Tamaulipas) and the bottom video of Comandante R1

@ 4:08 it's just music, no one has to like it or agree with what is said in the songs, but it's just that, music, there are songs written about every possible topic out there, good and bad, and the things they talk about don't happen because someone wrote a song

  25. Another one bites the dust! The murder of Chuy Quintanilla adds to the growing list of Norteño/Grupero singers/artists who've succumbed to cartel related violence. The narco corridos can be hazardous to your health. Joan Sebastián's son was also killed in Mission. Valentin Elizalde was killed across the border in Reynosa. When you sing a corrido about a rival sicario near the rival's territory, it's safe to safe you might get physically harmed. Jesús "Chuy" Quintanilla might not have been a widely know narrative of the narco corrido, nevertheless, when you play with fire you might get burned.

  30. Some of you only want to say some crap about Mexican culture and music. You don't understand anything about what you mock, by way of fundamental atributional errors. A lot of Americans jock/worship black/Afro culture - basketball, hip-hop/rap-crap, obama... but always talk crap about Mexican music, sports, etc. Most of the problems that they blame on "illegal" aliens are American problems in the first place. 1964 welfare "reform". When they try to describe characteristics of an "illegal" alien, instead it sounds like they are describing black street-thug culture that mexican-american and white kids picked-up on since 60s. Mexican heritage is rich. Corridos are not going away, so deal with it. Obviously so many Americans don't have good taste anyway, so they wouldn't recognize good music when they hear it anyway. So if you just want to attack our culture and music just find a different place to do it, because you're wasting your breath here. Go back to your rap crap and just don't bother to criticize a superior music that you don't understand.

      Delete
    3. your argument is irrelevant. I'm Mexican and i can't stand these stupid ass narco Corridos. the way Corridos are suppose to go is they tell a story.... not glorify the actions of these inhumane morons. the fact that YOU listen to them and by default, give them even more of a reason to do these atrocities puts you on the same level as them. because that's partly what they want... their 3 minutes of fame... and you are giving it to them. secondly, you placing this type of music in the same category as Mexican culture makes you an uneducated simpleton. real Mexican culture is not at all about these idiotic ideas of drug cartels and executions. i don't know this singer and while i don't listen to his type of music, I'm not judging.... but I'm also not feeling bad at all bc he was an idiot living in a world of irony. he didn't learn from what he was singing. but you sir... you i judge for insulting my Mexican culture by assuming that narco Corridos are Mexican culture. they are a virus and you sir... are infected. fix yourself and have proud for the culture you just tried to defend in an awful way.

    6. @9:21 AM
If me talking smart offends you... take your ass to school and get educated. You say I am the least educated person on here but I can give you at least 2 reasons why I'm not. First, I know the difference between "your" and "you're".... so square yourself away before you try to come at someone while sounding like an idiot. Secondly, I also know that TRADITION extends to way before the 70's. Corridos weren't invented in the 70's just to glorify traficantes... one "f" moron. And to further clarify, I was talking about the sub-genre of Narco corridos when I said that they were garbage. REAL corridos have their roots from the time of the Mexican revolution... and while it's true that they were never clean or at times nice... most recounted stories of honor... or battles between two men over a women.... or even revenge achieved by way of a cock fight but I'm guessing you don't know that one if you think Corridos were invented in the 70's. As for why I come to this site?... bc I'm Mexican and I'm concerned about what happens to the land of my father and mother. And.... no... I wouldn't be ignorant enough to think that someone in my family being in a POS cartel would be something to brag about. My family it's hard working.... educated... and we're a military family. So go open a damn book.... preferably a dictionary and come at me when you know what you're saying.

    7. With all due respect.......
your comment was originally aimed at someone who you misunderstood. they weren't glorifying "narco corridors" they were revealing an appreciation for our music without understanding the lyrics. you proved to us that you are in fact intelligent, now prove to us that your also a gentleman, or woman and apologize. "we" constantly see people here bash our heritage, and culture...now we have someone appreciating it and then they get bashed for it....all due respect.

  66. I doubt that it's drug or cartel related. This sounds like the work of Mariachi singers for sure. Don't let the big smiles and tradional outfits fool you. Most Mariachi singers are super bad mf-ers behind the scenes. From what I understand, the beef between the two camps goes back to the early 80's, when the first instances started to occur of Mariachi groups losing gigs in restaurants and clubs in the Los Angeles area. Don't want to say too much, so maybe a few other posters can add some input.

However, living the lifestyle that he lived, I would surmise that he was no saint. That lifestyle is what paid his bills. If you have never lived in or around an area like that, then you probably would not understand the culture. I don’t condone the mobster lifestyle anymore, but growing up in South Texas, I’ll admit that there was a period in my life when I did. Now that I’m a man, “I have put away childish things.” There is no future in that lifestyle; it’s destroying our people and our nation. I’ve seen both sides, 1st hand in Hidalgo County and all throughout South Texas, and the one thing I learned…if you’re going to be involved in that shit you’d better be mentally prepared to go one step further than the person (or persons) you are dealing with.

As for Starr County, they’ve got some CRAZY ASS Mexican’s out there in the Rancho…and some drop dead gorgeous females.

    Peace-

Sir, you are one misguided and ignorant individual. Nobody here has attacked Mexican music or culture, but maybe a mediocre norteño singer at best. I live in Texas, U.S.A., and I dont worship black culture. However, I do like music artists that happen to be black, and white, and Mexican, Mexican-American, Latino, etc. Guess what! So do Mexicanos! Musical artists from all over the world tour México and are received with sold-out concerts and overflowing crowds. Even Norteño artists have claimed to be rap fans. Believe me when I say this, Chicanos do not worship Black culture. We Mexican-Americans are sports fans and will cheer for athletes regardless of race. I like music from all genres in two languages. Since when is respecting our nation's president worshiping black culture. Obama is evertbody's, U.S., president regardless of race. If you ask me illegal immigration is a good problem to have.

The suspect was identified but has yet to be caught. That's because Joan S. is a more profiled signer. Many Norteno, Grupero, and Tejano singers have covered his songs.

Saw him at his dances or in public this man never had a cigarette, puro or any alcohol beverage in his hand. He was down to earth type man and very polite. Now I'm not saying he could of been posing as a good kid and behind everyone's back he was a bad kid but you jus never know the truth, only god knows what happened tht day. Please refrain from dragging and burning this mans reputation. It's sad how people will judge without knowing a person.

Because he disrespected Mexican pointy boots. When found he had a pair on,and they injured the medics also.It was ok to wear them with pride on stage. But in public, they are well known for scaring little children,he had no right. He has brought disrespect to a whole heritage of Mexican pointy boots, which will keep getting longer despite his efforts to defame them.He also wore them with no rhinestones?

Fernando Guerra is the cocaine dealer that used the Panama Unit to guard his loads or steal other loads for him. He was indicted with the Panama Unit and more arrest will be made. Right now it has been quiet with the news surrounding the Panama Unit because more arrest are coming. That is why Sheriff Trevino is trying to raise more money by having a skeet shooting fundraiser charging $1500 per team.
