Juarez copkiller may be a U.S. Army soldier

The media in Cd Juarez is reporting that authorities have confirmed alleged copkiller Gilberto Manuel Estupiñán Aguirre (left), age 20, is an active duty soldier in the U.S. Army.

The media In Ciudad Juarez and the state of Chihuahua are reporting that one of three "sicarios" arrested Wednesday after the armed robbery of a gasoline station in this border city is an active duty U.S. Army soldier.

According to authorities after their arrest the three men confessed to taking part in the murders of four Juarez police officers this year.

The men have been identified as Jesús Rubio González, age 24; Gilberto Manuel Estupiñán Aguirre, age 20; and César Benito Betancourt Griego, age 26.

Authorities claim that Gilberto Manuel Estupiñán identified himself as a soldier in the U.S. Army during his arrest and that his status was confirmed by police personnel.

The three men were in a blue Honda Accord at the time of their arrest and were in possession of a 9mm handgun and ammunition and a spare magazine for an AK-47 assault type weapon, in addition to a small amount of drugs and a bottle of Buchanon's whiskey.

The three men are alleged to have taken part in the murder of Juarez municipal police officers Joaquín Avendaño Pineda, Vidal Zatarain Valdez and Gabriel Avitia on the afternoon of September 7, 2011. The officers were intercepted by gunmen in two pickups while returning home at the end of their shift.

The three men are also alleged to have murdered municipal police officer Cordero Mireles, who was attacked and killed a day later on September 8, 2011.

At the time authorities had reported that evidence indicated the same group of gunmen were involved in both attacks.

  8. The US Army regulations will never allow a soldier to grow a beard, you must be clean shaved by 6:00 am morning formation. So I think this soldier went AWOL.

  9. Well the US Army is NOT the US MARINE CORPS. Were these people arrested in Juarez or El Paso? These Men are fine examples of all that is wrong they need to simply be removed, rehab my ass.

sad to say, but many parts of Mexico consider stealing a worse offense than killing someone.

  18. hi...i'm a Canadian female who stumbled across BB and BDN about 2yrs ago...at first i was horrified at the brutal, sadistic murders in Mexico...few in Canada know that 50,000 people have been tortured, beheaded (frick'n so gross) and dismembered (so awful even typing these words)...but, what I'd like to know is how and why is it that everyone 'siscario' or 'hawk' etc captured always CONFESS...surely, they're not all tortured by the Mexican police and army....?! These guys are supposed to be tough and merciless so why are they all 'snitching' when arrested?

Personally, I feel sick and sorry for many of the 'perpetrators' because no one would truly want to live like that...stealing, kidnapping, drugs, torturing, killing mayors, police, cartel members....the only reason most participate in the sickening gruesome violence is to survive and not be perceived as weak.

These people are desparate to earn a living...they have no goals, no hopes...likely no education and no opportunities...it is so sad. In Canada, killing a police officer or mayor is unconscionable...yet, it is the reality in Mexico due to the drug consumption of places like Canada, U.S.A.

Please, if you are involved in drugs or kidnapping and hurting people, try somehow to get to school for education...and improve your life...i feel helpless to your plight and misery. God Bless the people of Mexico.

  23. Bucanas is for wana be gangsters. You don't have to be a citizen to be in the army, they let greencard holders in too. Quick path to citizenship. The Muslim look seems to be the rage with the frontera mafioso crowd. They are just loosers that probably got beat by the police into a confession.

I guess you don't know anything about Japanese soldiers using innocent Chinese civilians for bayonet practice? Sanctioned, no, encouraged, by their military leaders. Careful who you point fingers at when it comes to the brutality of war. All sides are usually guilty.

  26. Anon December 9, 2011 11:04 AM,"Canadian Female",thank you for the blessings.I live in Mexico I know why my people are killing eachother...& its not because they lack school education.I know ppl with diplomas, college educated & it didnt stop them from participating in trafficking drugs.the majority of the victims are NOT innocent...im not justifying their deaths, but understand this...everyone involved in the drug business knows there is only 2 endings to their careers, prison or cemetery.yes they are desperate...but they know the consecuences they will pay..

I think someone is BSing you, I'm retired Military and most don't join the Marines because they can't find a job, no they join the Army because being a Marine is too hard for most people. As far as Coke is concerned, the test the military uses can detect Coke for 60 days after ingestion, seen a few kids get busted that way and these test are so random, you will get busted sooner or later and you never know when someone will walk up to you and tell you "it's time for a piss test".

  30. @ 11:04 AM...The Mexican Police, Feds and Military torture the hell out of people. They also kidnap them never to be seen again. Many of them innocent people. They are vicious, and malicious and usually are working for higher ups in the cartels. They get instant confessions because the use brutal torture techniques that will make innocent men plea guilty. This is why so many of the true criminals are released, forced confessions. They are notorious for finding a guilty party in high profile crimes and it is just some poor loser at the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes they do this to cover their own tracks. I hope this answers your question.

  32. @12/9/11 8:08pm Marines only look good on parades. Why they don't have SOG'S or DELTAS? Because they can't take such a tough training. The most they have is RECON Units. And 90% of them are not even jump qualified. That why most of them drug junkies join the Marines. That's why the government wants to put deploy the Army along the Mexican border, because the Marines won't do any good!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I wont go into who I am or what I do. Both the Marines and Army have the best and brightest of the country. I, like I'm sure most people didn't join based on who's the toughest, but rather which one offered me the job I wanted. With that I will say that ALL organizations also have their dirtbag soldiers, at all levels and in all units. Also remember that we are an all volunteer force, regardless of your background or diposition you volunteer of your own fee will.

As far as the article is concerned, I'm just curious if BB will keep us updated on this guy. I'm really interested in how the Army will treat this case.

  35. Each branch of service trains and.specialize in different ways of combat; for example Army can not do amphibious assaults on beaches like Marines do,and Air Force have their own special services like the Para-Rescue, that's why thru every war main campaigns they all get and work together to achieve victory. Just read about the massive assault in Normandy during WWII. America, the USA Love it -or leave it!!!!!!

  36. 1 group of bad apple americans, that's to say the cop wasn't dirty, and these boys were doing a side job. Copared to a whole nation of men and women willing to kill neighbors and law enforcement. Please this is a non issue. Americans have done worse and gotten away with it. Without our preciouss Marines, Army, Air Force, Navy. There is no mexico to fight over, there wouldbe no drugs to sell to american demand. Without american military your precious cartels would also not have any weapons or grenades to kill everyone with. Why don't we send it the marines first to mexico see who wins. See which side has brotherhood and will fight along side eachother just because of our flag. Can't wait till they give us the green light to invade or "cleanse" mexico. Sad excuse of a nation.

  38. @12/10/11 8:01pm. Exactly! They all worked together. Air Force provided air support and bombers, Army provided infantry divisions and the Navy provided marines, transport ships and the amphibious boats the Army did not have. THEY ALL WORKED TOGETHER! Do you get my point?

  39. If this guy was a u.s army soldier then good riddence to his ass because he is one of those 1% out 99% of all soldiers that get into army for the wrong reason. All branches have wimps and tough men, just because you went to boot camp does not make u tougher!
