14 Billion Dollars***, The Amount The US Seeks To Take From 'El Mayo'. UPDATED

"Char" for Borderland Beat

AUGUST 25, 2024

The kingpin would face harsher charges if transferred to the Brooklyn courthouse in New York, where El Chapo was sentenced.

If transferred to New York, Ismael el Mayo Zambada would have to cede an estimated $14 billion and hope that prosecutors would not be so severe in charging him with trafficking fentanyl, a synthetic opiate that in 2021 caused the deaths of more than 105,000 addicts in the United States.

That would be one of the reasons why the defense opposes Zambada Garcia's transfer to New York, and that he would instead face justice in a court in the Western District of Texas, which is currently hearing his case, and where it is not clear whether the drug lord would have a similar amount confiscated, and he certainly does not face charges for fentanyl trafficking, although he does face charges of murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, criminal association, money laundering and illegal possession of a firearm.

Another element that the New York court does not have is that he would not face Brian Cogan, one of the fiercest judges in the United States, who sentenced Joaquín el Chapo Guzmán to life imprisonment plus an additional 30 years during the so-called trial of the century.

For that reason, Zambada Garcia's defense filed a motion on Friday last week, a day after prosecutors requested his transfer to Brooklyn, that the kingpin not be taken to that district, but be tried in Texas, where he has faced charges since 2012, while in New York he was only charged a few months ago.

“There is no justification for the transfer to be applied as requested, since he does not argue why he should be transferred from the court in Texas, which has an ongoing case against him since April 2012, while the court in New York dates from February 2024,” says Frank Perez, Zambada Garcia's lawyer.

According to Perez, the U.S. Government is inadmissibly seeking to remove his client from the Western District of Texas based on an inadequate and unsubstantiated initial appearance request, without explaining why this decision applies in this particular case, nor citing other cases that establish why they want to transfer him.

“For the foregoing reasons, Mr. Zambada Garcia respectfully requests that the Court dismiss the Government's motion for initial appearance and stay of the speedy trial provisions in Texas,” reads the defense motion.

As noted in docket number 3:12-cr-00849, the indictment includes Chapo Guzman, and 22 other individuals, who allegedly worked as hitmen, commanders and coordinators to traffic drugs to the United States, such as cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamines, and formed a front to fight against the Juarez Cartel, which then had Vicente Carrillo Fuentes, the Viceroy, as its leader.

“The group led by Zambada Garcia and Chapo Guzman, had as its armed wing cells of hitmen known as Gente Nueva, Los Mexicles, Los Dobles A, and Los Artistas Asesinos, who carried out homicides, torture, kidnappings, and all kinds of violent activities in Ciudad Juarez and El Paso Texas, in addition to engaging in all kinds of drug trafficking,” reads the file, filed in a federal court in the Western District of Texas.

Unlike the case filed in New York, where only Zambada Garcia is charged, in the Texas case the indictment is a joint indictment, which makes the sentence less severe because there are 24 defendants, and all of them played an undetermined role.

In both courts Zambada Garcia could face the death penalty, if so requested by prosecutors, although according to experts it is unlikely to happen, because of the age of the defendant, because, although he faces murder charges, it is not seen that he could be sentenced to death for that charge, but for drug trafficking, mainly for trafficking and manufacture of fentanyl.

Other charges that Mayo will face in Brooklyn court include racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering and various drug trafficking offenses, including trafficking cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine into the United States.

Until last year, the DEA had only charged Los Chapitos, as the only criminal group to traffic fentanyl, until, in February of this year, it included Zambada Garcia in the indictment. The New York court assures that the drug lord amassed billions of dollars in profits, and therefore estimates that he must pay 14 billion dollars to repair the damage done to US society.

Culiacán, Sinaloa - Following the arrest in the United States of Ismael Zambada García, alias “El Mayo” and Joaquín Guzmán López, son of “El Chapo” Guzmán, the Mexican Army does not foresee an increase in violence in Sinaloa.

The Commander of the Ninth Military Zone, Porfirio Fuentes Velez, assured that, together with his elements, they will be alert to any eventuality that may arise, however, a day after the apprehensions, they consider that Sinaloa has been relatively calm.

“I consider that no, but we are going to be alert, we are prepared for any situation with enough strength to be able to react to any eventuality. After this arrest, things have been relatively calm,” he said.

The military commander emphasized the fact that the troops currently on patrol in Sinaloa are strong enough to react to any type of aggression, he also highlighted the arrival of the 200 special forces elements that arrived today in Culiacan, where they will work in coordination with the 3000 military personnel already in all the municipalities, with the objective of creating an environment of peace in the families of Sinaloa and eradicate the actions of the criminal groups that inhabit the different areas.

He denied that in Culiacán there have been operations by the army in previous days to try to apprehend Ismael El Mayo Zambada or any other Sinaloa Cartel leader.

Cell Of Sinaloa Cartel Faction Headed By "El Mayo" Zambada Dismantled By Navy In Culiacán, Sinaloa

 "Char" for Borderland Beat

This article was translated and reposted from EL UNIVERSAL

WRITTEN BY: DANIELA WACHAUF AND MANUEL ESPINO

JULY 4, 2024

Elements of the Secretary of the Navy and the Attorney General's Office (FGR) dismantled a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel faction headed by Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada and his son Ismael Zambada Sicairos, "El Mayito Flaco", dedicated to the production of fentanyl pills for shipment to the United States.

As a result of naval intelligence work and the FGR's Criminal Investigation Agency, eight search warrants were executed simultaneously and nine alleged offenders were arrested in the municipality of Culiacán Rosales, Sinaloa.

This resulted in the seizure of documentation, cash in local and foreign currency, controlled chemical substances and precursors stored in drums, flasks and bottles containing transparent liquids used for the manufacture of synthetic drugs; solid substances, both white and crystalline, with characteristics of methamphetamine; and blue pills marked with the legend M30, possibly fentanyl.

In addition, various equipment and machinery were seized, including tabletting machines, industrial mixers and packaging machines, as well as various materials for handling chemical substances.

Taking into account the investigative actions, it is presumed that at least the seized tabletting machine was in operation during the period from May 1 to June 30, during which time it could have produced around six million 700 thousand tablets, whose approximate value would be 1,700 million pesos, which at the current exchange rate is equivalent to more than 92 million dollars.

In addition, high-end vehicles, various firearms, fragmentation grenades, as well as ballistic material and telecommunication equipment, among other items, were found, and six properties linked to these alleged criminal activities were seized.

The properties and objects seized were placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, which continues with the integration of the investigation file for the crimes mentioned above.

The chemical substances, controlled precursors, pills, and possible narcotics are in the process of chemical profiling for their forensic determination.

The nine people arrested were charged and remanded in custody as a precautionary measure, for which they will be held in social reintegration centers located in Aguaruto and Guasave.

According to federal authorities, the criminal cell operated under the command of the Sinaloa Cartel faction led by "El Mayo" Zambada and his son "Mayito Flaco", with operations in Sinaloa, Sonora, Jalisco, Baja California, and Nayarit.

At the international level, they had partners in China who supplied chemical substances for the production of fentanyl, as well as in the United States, the market to which they sent the finished product.

For the security cabinet, this operation confirms that fentanyl is not only imported from China, but that the synthesis of this drug is also carried out in national territory.

Mili Felix Who Had A Romantic Relationship With Cheyo Imperial Castro Sends Message Allegedly To The Public In General: Culiacán, Sinaloa.

"Char" and "Enojon" for Borderland Beat

Cheyo Imperial & Mili Felix

MESSAGE FROM MILI FELIX

VIDEO TRANSLATION

"Communication from Mili Félix, Wife of Cheyo
Good afternoon. I hadn’t had the time or the inclination to clarify the rumors that have been circulating. I wouldn’t have to, but the things that have been said are too much. I keep my life very private, not posting photos on my Instagram, which is private and has fewer than 300 followers, all of whom are friends. Regarding the question many people are asking about Cheyo’s funeral, I respond: Cheyo never married anyone, so there was no one to claim the body. We had to wait for his mother, who was out of town, and if anyone doubts this, they can easily verify it with the civil registry. Regarding why I didn’t speak at the funeral or about him, I did not speak because I couldn’t measure up to his status. No wife’s crown or anything was placed; the flower arrangement on the coffin only said “from his children” and it was divided into two sections for his children, who are the most affected. It took three days to cremate the body, and by then I was already disgusted with all the mess: women and young ladies who were involved with him were sending me photos, phone conversations, and Instagram conversations that he had. I knew he had them. So, what I did was get the funeral over in the healthiest way possible and handle myself with respect to his status. It’s also worth mentioning that I was the first one at the morgue, and everyone there knew it. That’s why his son let me handle the funeral arrangements. On the day of the burial, it was a mess with people recording and taking photos, and a total lack of respect. As for the women who were posting photos with him and giving permission to pages to upload things, why didn’t they do that when he was alive? I never posted a photo of him with anyone on social media, and those who have a little common sense realize this.
I am not going to start posting photos with the deceased or partying because ten other women also have them. I prefer to maintain my dignity. I ask for respect for me and my children at this moment. Let’s let go of things and let those who have to live in peace. I will hold masses apart for the children and that’s it. Thank you."

Baja California Decommission 80 Tonnes of Drugs in 3 months

Translated by Otis B Fly-Wheel for Borderland Beat from a Zetatijuana article

[ Subject Matter: Drug Seizure, Sinaloa Cartel, Arellano Felix Organization
Recommendation: No prior subject knowledge required]

Reporter: Zeta Investigation

The 41.6 tonnes of Marijuana that was decommissioned in Tijuana this 12th of June, was denoted by Authorities as the property of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada.

The drugs had been transferred to the frontier in various trips in sealed vehicles, and was not detected at the few checkpoints installed on Highways between Sinaloa and Tijuana, manned by Federal Police and elements of the Army.

In fact to transport the drugs, Baja California Authorities required five trucks. The first to arrive at the house in the Granjas Familiares de Tijuana Colonia, according to witnesses, were elements of the State Preventative Police.

An investigation after one detention, apparently from a citizen complaint, led elements of the PEP tto the location of the mega haul.
