The relatives of "El Tito" are buried with drum music In Los Mochis, Sinaloa. Guasave and Los Mochis criminal figures will face pressure from military in the upcoming months.

They were kidnapped in Los Mochis and found dead days later in El Carrizo. Four were close relatives of El Tito, executed a week earlier in the Goros II prison.

Ernesto Torres 07/28/2025

To the music of the band, with deep pain, helplessness, and many questions, the funeral and burial took place for the five men found executed last weekend on the side of Mexico City International Highway 15, in the Carrizo Valley, Ahome.

The victims are four members of the same family and a close friend; they were deprived of their liberty on the night of Wednesday, July 16, by an armed group that broke into a home located in the Scally neighborhood of Los Mochis. Since that night, no further word has been heard from them.

On the morning of Saturday, the 26th, their bodies were found abandoned with signs of torture and strangulation. One of them still had the tourniquet tied around his neck; another, the father of two of the young men, was found dismembered in a bag and a plastic box.

That same Saturday night, the State Attorney General's Office released the body of Jassiel Eduardo, a 26-year-old car dealer and resident of Infonavit Mochicahui.

According to reports, Jassiel had gone to the airport to pick up his friend, one of the Vázquez brothers, a friend of his who had returned from abroad and arrived at the airport; together, they went to the Scally home, where they would later be kidnapped by an armed group.

He was considered a cheerful, easygoing, and very friendly person. His acquaintances assure that he was very well-liked in his inner circle. Jassiel was buried yesterday afternoon in the Jardines de la Memoria cemetery, accompanied by his closest family members, close friends, and band music.

The funeral procession was surrounded by family and friends who knew him in life, and their faces reflected the sadness of his final resting place.

Farewell to "El Tito's" Family

Hours earlier, at the Santa María Funeral Home in El Carrizo, the legal autopsy was performed on the bodies of "El Tito's" four relatives, and at the stroke of midnight, the Prosecutor's Office released them.

The bodies of Rosario Vázquez Salazar (52 years old), her children, Rosario Vázquez Sánchez (27) and Omar Eduardo Vázquez Sánchez (22), and her nephew Luis Fernando Carrillo Vázquez (26), were taken to the Misión Funeral Home in the city of Los Mochis.

There, the four coffins were placed together in a single chapel, where their loved ones awaited them in deep sorrow, as well as close friends who came to bid their final farewells.

The four were considered quiet, friendly young men, with active social lives, and well-liked by those who knew them. During the funeral, many people were absent, perhaps due to fear of possible retaliation or an unsafe environment, although the turnout was notable among family members and close friends.

This Monday, July 28, the four members of the Vázquez family were buried in the Jardín Funeral Misión cemetery, located on the airport road.

Just eight days earlier, the man known as "El Tito" was buried in that same cemetery. He was a close relative of the victims, murdered in an alleged fight inside the Goros II federal prison.

No Progress in the Case

So far, authorities have provided no progress on the case or the circumstances surrounding the alleged fight that led to the death of Javier Alonso Vázquez Sánchez, alias "El Tito." He has been detained by the Navy since December 2024 after the seizure of 1,500 kilos of fentanyl pills, one of the largest seizures in the country's recent history.

During the funeral, the bands that accompanied each procession played songs favored by young people.

The corridos, well-known among them, provoked tears, memories, and hugs, mourning the loss of young lives that will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on their families and loved ones.

Speculation about the multiple kidnappings and murders of the family is causing commentary, especially on social media. Although the families have already buried the victims, they remain hopeful that justice will be served, or at least that they will be informed of some progress in the investigation.

Venezuela’s Cartel del Soles Sanctioned as Terrorist Group Supporting Sinaloa Cartel & Tren de Aragua

"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

The Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned the Cartel de los Soles as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. The US stated that Cartel de los Soles is a Venezuela-based criminal group headed by Nicolas Maduro Moros and other high-ranking Venezuelan individuals in the Maduro regime that provides material support to foreign terrorist organizations threatening the peace and security of the United States, namely Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel.

“Today’s action further exposes the illegitimate Maduro regime’s facilitation of narco-terrorism through terrorist groups like Cartel de los Soles,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “The Treasury Department will continue to execute on President Trump’s pledge to put America First by cracking down on violent organizations including Tren de Aragua, the Sinaloa Cartel, and their facilitators, like Cartel de los Soles.”

Another blow to Los Chapitos: Sinaloa Cartel operative 'El Chochías' falls. El Chochias was a former Los Damaso enforcer and was captured by the Navy In Navolato, Sinaloa.

JULY 27, 2025

THIS INFORMATION WAS POSTED BY RADIOFORMULA

Sinaloa experienced a violent day, with up to 15 deaths reported at the start of the weekend.

José Maximiliano Insunza Ruiz, better known as "El Chochías" or "El 60," was captured by federal agents in the municipality of Navolato, Sinaloa. He is identified as an operative for Los Chapitos. At the same time, at least 15 people were reported dead in acts of violence in Sinaloa on Saturday.

Insunza Ruiz was arrested in the town of Campo Balbuena and in the municipality of Navolato. He is considered the right-hand man of Juan Carlos Bernal, alias "El 11," another operative of the criminal organization led by the sons of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán. This individual was captured by members of the Navy (Semar).

Upon his capture, "El Chochías" was seized from a 9mm pistol with seven magazines and 54 cartridges, as well as 95 bags of a substance similar to marijuana and 103 bags of a substance resembling crystal meth. Everything seized was turned over to the Attorney General's Office (FGR).

In another operation carried out in Navolato, Sinaloa, two other people were arrested, according to information from the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat (SSPE). These individuals, whose identities have been withheld, were seized: an AK-47 rifle, an M4 rifle, two handguns, and 10 magazines of various calibers.

These arrests are in addition to the violent incidents reported in Sinaloa on Saturday: at least 15 bodies were found in different parts of the state, according to a report by José Luis Echegaray, a correspondent for Radio Fórmula, in a link with Juan Becerra Acosta.

The events of the violent day were concentrated in the municipalities of Ahome and Culiacán, according to a Radio Fórmula correspondent. All of these incidents occurred one year after the capture of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, one of the founders of the Sinaloa Cartel and head of the "Los Mayos" or "Los Mayitos" faction.

At least 1,632 people have died in acts of violence since July 2024; in addition, 1,500 people have been reported missing. The violence has not only disrupted the lives of residents but also business owners, who are forced to close their businesses earlier.

In this past week, authorities announced the deployment of 1,800 Army personnel to reinforce security in Sinaloa. Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch stated that criminal organizations, such as Los Chapitos, have been "reduced" by the operations.

Ahome, Sinaloa.- Unofficially, it has been revealed that the five bodies found on the side of Federal Highway Mexico 15 near the Chávez Talamantes community belong to relatives of Javier Alonso "V" "El Tito," who was recently murdered inside the Goros II prison in Ahome.

Sources from the Prosecutor's Office reported unofficially that the bodies were identified as Rosario "V," 52; his children Rosario "V," 27; and Omar Eduardo "V," 22; as well as his nephew Luis Fernando "C," 22; all of whom are relatives of "El Tito." The fifth body belongs to Jasiel Eduardo "G," 30.

Four bodies were lying on the side of Federal Highway, while the fifth body was found completely dismembered inside an orange bag.

The deceased had been sought by their families since July 16th of this year. Since then, they have not heard from their loved ones. Unfortunately, they were found lifeless on the morning of Saturday, July 26th of this year, in the aforementioned ejido (common land).

In total, at least 14 Army units and 11 more from the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection were counted.

A major operation by federal forces took place this Saturday afternoon in the municipalities of Guasave and Ahome, with the deployment of at least 14 pickup trucks from the Mexican Army's Special Forces Corps, known as "Murciélagos," in addition to 11 additional units from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), bearing the agency's characteristic black and white colors.

The convoy began its journey in Guasave, where the military personnel patrolled various parts of the city. They later moved to the municipality of Ahome and were seen in northern Los Mochis, in what is believed to be a coordinated surveillance and violence deterrent action.

To date, no clashes, arrests, or seizures have been reported as a result of this deployment. However, the presence of these elite units has raised concerns among the public due to their level of specialization and the number of units deployed.

This operation adds to a series of military actions that have been intensifying in Guasave for several weeks. The presence of the Army, the Mexican Navy, and the Interinstitutional Group has been constant in communities and neighborhoods of the municipality.

On Friday, Army paratroopers patrolled the districts of Nío, Estación Bamoa, and Unfonseca, while in Las Playitas they entered several homes, seizing a handgun and two loaded magazines.

That same night, a convoy of armored vehicles and an Ocelot-type unit patrolled areas such as San Francisco, 24 de Febrero, and surrounding areas. Their presence was also reported in communities near El Burrión.

On Saturday morning, at least three Navy units conducted patrols in various parts of the city, including the vicinity of the Municipal Cemetery, in an apparent surveillance and prevention strategy.

Although authorities have not issued official reports on the results, these operations are expected to continue as part of the increased security in the region.

One year after"El Mayo" Zambada was turned over to authorities and the death of Cuén, which sparked the war in Sinaloa.

JULY 25, 2025

The News

On July 25, 2024, one year ago, news of the arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada began to spread like wildfire in international, national, and Sinaloa media, as well as on social media and WhatsApp groups. But it wasn't the only news; there was also talk of the arrest of Joaquín Guzmán López, son of “El Chapo.” Both were being held by the United States government.

That same day, the Attorney General of the neighboring country, Merrick B. Garland, confirmed that “El Mayo” Zambada and “El Chapo's” son were detained in El Paso, Texas. Both were accused of multiple counts of criminal activity, as well as being part of that country's fentanyl manufacturing and trafficking network.

The hours passed, the news shook Sinaloa and the country, and no federal authority issued a statement. It was the following day, July 26, when the then President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, asked his Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Rosa Icela Rodríguez, to provide the information they had.

The federal official stated that it was at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, when a call was received from the U.S. Embassy alerting them to the custody of both drug traffickers. The identities of both alleged criminals were later verified, prompting the Mexican government to request a photo and notify the secretaries of the Navy and the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena).

At the same time, Rosa Icela emphasized that "the Mexican government did not participate in this arrest or surrender, and we will continue to collaborate with the United States government," she said, leaving more questions than answers for Mexicans and unnerving the people of Sinaloa who, although they imagined what was coming, never realized the magnitude of this war fueled by drone attacks and explosive devices.

MAYO ZAMBADA

JOAQUIN GUZMAN LOPEZ

Zambada's Letter

Sixteen days after "El Mayo" was arrested, he broke his silence and shared a letter through his lawyer describing what happened on July 25 at the Huertos del Pedregal farm in Culiacán, Sinaloa, where he had supposedly been summoned to resolve the political conflict at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS).

In the letter, which was released on August 10, Ismael Zambada stated that he was the victim of an "ambush" orchestrated by Joaquín Guzmán López, son of "El Chapo" Guzmán, who allegedly kidnapped him to hand him over to the United States government.

I want to say from the outset that I did not surrender and I did not come to the United States voluntarily, nor did I have any agreement with either government. On the contrary, I was kidnapped and brought to the United States by force and against my will.

I also had no agreement with either government. On the contrary, I was kidnapped and brought to the United States by force and against my will,” he stated.

According to his account, Joaquín Guzmán López requested a meeting with Ismael Zambada to resolve some political differences in Sinaloa.

“El Mayo” shared that he arrived at the meeting place before 11:00 a.m. accompanied by four members of his security detail. Two remained outside the perimeter, while others entered with him: José Rosario Heras López, commander of the Judicial Police of the State of Sinaloa, and Rodolfo Chaidez, a longtime member of his security team.

On the way to the meeting area, he saw Cuén Ojeda and one of his aides, whom he greeted briefly. When he met Joaquín Guzmán López, the latter gestured for him to follow him, and they led him to another darkened room.

"As soon as I set foot inside that room, I was ambushed. A group of men assaulted me, threw me to the floor, and placed a dark-colored hood over my head. They tied me up and handcuffed me, and then forced me into the back of a pickup truck," recalled Zambada, who asserted that he was subjected to physical abuse that caused injuries to his back, knees, and wrists.

Later, they took him to a landing strip where they forced him onto a private plane with only the pilot, Joaquín, and himself on board. The flight lasted approximately three hours to El Paso, Texas, where US agents were already waiting for him.

"The notion that I voluntarily surrendered or cooperated is completely and unequivocally false. I was brought to this country by force and under duress, without my consent and against my will," he said.

Investigation Timeline

In August 2024, the Attorney General's Office requested the case and opened an investigation against Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López for the possible crimes of illegal flight; illegal use of air facilities; violation of immigration and customs laws; kidnapping; treason (Article 123 of the Federal Penal Code); and any other related charges.

The agency requested all relevant information from the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, which he provided to authorities and the media, demonstrating that he had not been in Sinaloa on the day of the alleged meeting at the farm. He also clarified that he was never aware of the meeting and that "El Mayo" had likely been summoned under this false pretense.

In February 2025, Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero confirmed that the Mexican government had requested Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada's repatriation to Mexico from the moment he was arrested in the United States, as he has three arrest warrants against him in Mexico.

The Murder of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda

That same July 25, 2024, the day of the surrender of "El Mayo" along with the son of "El Chapo," but already after 9:00 p.m., Sinaloa was shaken again by the news of the attack on the leader of the Partido Sinaloense, Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, at a gas station located on the Mexico 15 international highway, near the town of La Presita, north of Culiacán.

He was transferred to a private hospital in the city of Culiacán, but it was reported that he had arrived without vital signs. Reporters crowded outside the clinic, broadcasting live, still in disbelief at what was happening.

However, in the letter in which "El Mayo" describes how he was kidnapped, he revealed that Cuén was murdered on the same ranch and at the exact time he was taken from the farm to the United States.

I know that the official version given by the Sinaloa state authorities is that Héctor Cuén was shot on the night of July 25th at a gas station by two men on a motorcycle who wanted to steal his truck. That is not what happened. They killed him at the same time and in the same place where I was kidnapped," he stated.

Zambada García lamented the murder of someone he considered his friend, as well as the disappearance of two members of his security team: José Rosario Heras López and Rodolfo Chaidez. They remain missing to this day.

In August 2024, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) complained about inaccuracies in the investigation conducted by the Attorney General's Office of the State of Sinaloa into the murder of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda. Among the most notable are:

The autopsy did not correctly establish the immediate cadaveric signs, temperature, thanatological signs, lividity, or the correct description and evolution of the body.

  • The body has severe bruising on the head.
  • The body was shot four times in the legs.
  • The gas station video has sound, but only one gunshot can be heard.
  • The crime scene and vehicle have not been criminally processed.
  • Although there are human blood stains in the truck's bed, there are no expert reports or determinations on the matter.
  • Nor have all the authorities involved complied with the body preservation measures, allowing cremation, which is contrary to criminalistic practices for homicide investigations.

For this reason, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) flatly rejected the version that Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda was murdered at a gas station in Culiacán, calling it "unacceptable" and a "set-up."

The Farm in Huertos del Pedregal

On August 21, Attorney General's Office agents located the farm named San Julián/Santa Julia, where the alleged meeting was held where Zambada García was kidnapped to be handed over to the United States government, and, it is now known, where Cuén Ojeda was murdered.

The property is located on the right side, at the end of the main avenue in the rural area, near the Bellavista police station, part of the Culiacancito municipality. It has a large wall with an electric fence at the top, security gates, a large pool, thatched roofs, grills, and beautiful gardens with palm trees.

At first glance, traces of dried blood were visible on the access ramp to the main entrance gate of the property. The Attorney General's Office began the searches on August 31.

In October 2024, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) reported that blood stains were found on the property, which federal forensic units have accurately determined correspond to the former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda. This confirms that the person was present at the scene of the kidnapping and that his bloodstains correspond to the time the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office has established as the time of his murder, which occurred many hours before the locally released video of a gas station, which has since been dismissed by the FGR itself.

It also reported that human blood was found in the bed of the vehicle, corresponding to Rodolfo "C," currently missing and referred to in Ismael Zambada's letter as his bodyguard or member of his security team.

For all of the above reasons, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) has initiated an investigation into the alleged criminal and administrative responsibilities of police officers, public prosecutors, experts, and various personnel from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Sinaloa, who have already been thoroughly investigated for their involvement in the death of Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda.

Message of calm overtaken by reality

Days after Zambada's surrender, and given the context of the conditions in which it had taken place, journalists asked a Defense commander if they expected the violence in Sinaloa to escalate, and the answer was no.

I think not, but we will remain alert; we are prepared for any situation, with sufficient force to react to any eventuality. After this arrest, things have been relatively calm."

Things changed, and then a war between criminal groups would ensue, taking the streets as a battlefield and driving back the population.

September 9

Once the farm was located in August and the letter confirming the rumors was revealed: Ismael Zambada had been ambushed and handed over "by force" to the United States. On September 9, a shootout that left several soldiers wounded and one dead marked the beginning of the war between the two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel: on the one hand, the Zambadas' fury over the surrender of "El Mayo," and on the other, "Los Chapitos" defending the territory and containing the backlash attacks for having handed Ismael Zambada over to the US government.

At the end of his letter, "El Mayo" Zambada sent a message:

I also call on the people of Sinaloa to exercise restraint and maintain peace in our state. Nothing is resolved with violence. We've traveled that path, and we all lose," he concluded.

A message that was evidently not heeded by the groups that unleashed an era of shootouts fueled by explosive devices, executions, kidnappings, and bloodthirsty narco-messages accompanied by mutilated bodies, tire-punching in public spaces, attacks on homes, and assaults on the Mexican Army and police in Sinaloa. This has now lasted more than 10 months, resulting in the deaths of innocent people in the crossfire.

Today in Sinaloa, in addition to local police forces, there are federal reinforcements with more than 15,000 members of the Army, Navy, National Guard, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. Omar García Harfuch and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo's security cabinet are constantly visiting to restore peace and tranquility to the people of Sinaloa.

Despite the results of more than 1,500 arrests, the seizure of thousands of firearms, and even though there are less "ugly" days than at the beginning, the question for the people of Sinaloa remains the same: When will the violence end?
