Jose Landa-Rodriguez, known as "Fox," a reputed member of the Mexican Mafia, has struck a plea deal, He has been imprisoned in the US since 1998 and has faced numerous cases since then including running a drug trafficking and extortion ring from within prison.

Facing charges from 2011 to 2018, including a murder plot and orchestrating a drug cartel alliance, he pled guilty to racketeering. As part of the plea deal, he will serve just two more years in prison before his deportation to Mexico. 

Allegations against him included masterminding schemes within Los Angeles County jails and attempting to establish a drug pipeline with La Familia Michoacana. Recorded prison calls and testimony revealed his involvement in overseeing extortion and drug sales operations, including a scheme named Operation Dirty Thirds, which extorted funds from more than half of the Hispanic inmate population in California.

USDA Pauses Avocado, Mango Inspections In Mexican State Due To Security Concerns

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has temporarily paused any new exports of mangoes and avocados out of Michoacán, Mexico after an incident that reportedly sparked security concerns for its safety inspectors on the ground.

A spokesman for the agency said Monday that the inspection program will remain paused until it can ensure its Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service inspectors working in Mexico are safe.

While the USDA did not elaborate on the nature of the specific security threats, Reuters first reported the suspension stemmed from a protest in support of local police in the municipality of Paracho.
"The programs will remain paused until the security situation is reviewed and protocols and safeguards are in place for APHIS personnel," the USDA spokesman added.

The USDA first alerted the Avocado Exporting Producers and Packers of Mexico of its decision to suspend new exports out of the western Mexican state earlier this month.

Any produce that has already been inspected and is in transit will not be blocked or impacted by the suspension, the agency said.
This marks the second time in just over two years that inspections have been suspended following an incident in February 2022 that dealt with USDA employee safety, which was resolved within a week of the ban and had no severe impact on the avocado supply in the U.S.

The USDA has inspectors working in Mexico to ensure the products meet U.S. standards, without whose signoff the avocados and mangos cannot be sent north.

Michoacán and Jalisco are the only two Mexican states allowed to export avocados to the U.S., an industry worth billions of dollars each year.
Michoacán is known as one of Mexico's most dangerous states, which has been dominated by organized crime for decades. The avocado industry has been no exception, with extortion rampant in the lucrative produce industry.

If the current issue is not resolved as swiftly as the 2022 incident, and the supply chain is disrupted for a long period, there could be an impact on U.S. supply.

Guerrero’s District Attorney’s Office has identified Raybel Jacobo de Almonte “El Tequilero”, as the leader of the criminal group that bears his nickname.  There are 15 arrest warrants against him for crimes such as: extortion, kidnapping, and homicide.

 The criminal organization, Los Tequileros, emerged as one of the armed wings of the Guerreros Unidos Cartel in northern Guerrero.  It seeks to dispute the control of the Tierra Caliente region with La Familia that borders the State of Mexico; La Familia is supported by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

La Familia, led by Johnny Hurtado Olascoaga “El Pescado”, and Los Tequileros, led by Raybel Jacobo de Almonte “El Tequilero”, are disputing for the control of the drug corridor that connects the sierra and the Tierra Caliente region of Guerrero with Michoacán and the State of Mexico.

San Antonio de la Gavia, in the municipality of San Miguel Totolapan, is considered to be the center of operations of Los Tequileros.

A dismembered body was found in the municipality of Zacatepec while another was found executed in Yautepec this Thursday in Morelos.

In the early hours of Thursday, the discovery of a dismembered male body was found, whose remains were in five black plastic bags, along the road Zacatepec-Jojutla at the crossing known as Cuatro Caminos.

The remains were accompanied with a narco-message where a person identified as “José Álvarez Ramírez” is threatened:

“Here is the trash, [this is for] all the kidnappers and extortionists and to all who support José Álvarez Ramírez, for all the kidnappers,” the message says, which was secured by the authorities.  

 Apparently, the message wasn’t signed by any criminal group.

Meanwhile, in the neighborhood Ixtlahuacán, in the municipality of Yautepec, neighbors reported shots and then a man’s body was found with multiple wounds on his body.

This municipality has been the target of violence for almost five months, in which there have been assassinations, executions, and the discovery of dismembered bodies.

Four Dismembered Bodies Left In Teloloapan

(May 2, 2014) Chilpancingo, Guerrero— The dismembered bodies of four men were left in Teloloapan, municipality located in the north of Guerrero, this morning.

The discovery was reported at 10:00am on Friday at the street 2 de Abril in the heart of the town, a few meters from the Public Prosecutor’s office.

The bodies were kept in eight black plastic bags.  Next to the bodies, a message was left attributed to the criminal group “La Familia”:

“This is going to happen to all the rats and kidnappers; I’m going to fuck up your fucking mom fucking bitches.  Attn: Santana Ríos and my comrade El M 16.  Long live la FM (Familia Michoacana)”

During the last 24 hours, seven corpses have been left in Teloloapan.  Yesterday, three bodies were dug up from a clandestine grave located on the outskirts of this town that has been crippled by drug violence.

 The surge in violence in this municipality is recorded after the arrest of Mario Casarrubias Salgado, leader of the criminal group “Guerreros Unidos”, which maintains a dispute with hitmen from “La Familia” for the control of the north of the state.

The capture of Casarrubias Salgado took place during an operation of the Mexican Navy, the Mexican Army, and the PGR of the State of Mexico.

Along with the boss of the criminal group in the city of Iguala, Isaí Salgado Cereso, 29, originally from Guerrero and José Rivelino Mejía Salgado, 43, of Torreón, Coahuila were also captured.
