The five people arrested during the operation, which resulted in the release of a prisoner and the seizure of weapons, tactical equipment, vehicles, and drugs, are members of Los Mayos, reported Omar García Harfuch.

“In Culiacán, Sinaloa, an operation was implemented by @SEMAR_mx and @SSPCMexico to free a person deprived of his liberty. 5 of his captors were arrested, who are members of a criminal cell linked to ‘Los Mayos’. The victim belonged to the ‘Los Chapitos’ faction. In this operation, high-powered firearms were seized and made available to @FGRMexico,” wrote Omar Hamid García Harfuch, head of the SSPC Federal, on his social media account X.

“Following a citizen complaint about the deprivation of liberty of a man, security elements carried out intelligence and investigation work, as well as operational actions with aerial and ground surveillance in the municipality of Culiacán to locate him. With this and in follow-up to a citizen complaint reporting the presence of a group of heavily armed men aboard two vehicles in the town of Llano de Abajo, security agents mobilized to the area,” the Federal Security Cabinet said in a joint statement.

“After implementing a security operation, officers freed the detained individual, who belonged to a rival faction of a criminal group, and arrested five individuals, including a minor. They seized six long guns, two slingshots, 21 magazines, 1,021 live rounds of ammunition, eight ballistic vests, 16 ballistic plates, various doses of drugs, and two vehicles,” the Mexican government detailed.

During a ground patrol, naval personnel, in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, freed an individual who had been detained in the town of El Llano de Abajo, part of the state capital. * 11 loaded 7.62 x 39 caliber magazines.

* 30 packages of dried herb resembling marijuana.

* Radio antennas.

* Ballistic vests.

* Tire punctures.

According to information from Semanario Zeta, the detainees were identified as Jesús Javier Valdés Vega, 31; Jesús Abraham Cruz García, 28; Lamberto Ayón Urías, 28; Osvaldo Trinidad Carrera, 18; and a 16-year-old teenager.

The rescued man was identified as Javier Antonio Guerra Peña, a former member of "Los Chapitos" who was to be killed by his captors. The victim is the son of Javier Guerra Araujo, 45, who was arrested in Culiacán de Rosales on July 19, 2025, along with José Manuel Álvarez García, alias "Mono Canelo," one of the main perpetrators of violence in the city and leader of a cell of "El Chapo's" sons. The afternoon of this Sunday, July 6, 2025, reports started to swirl about a raid by Mexican military special forces that included a helicopter with a minigun machine gun and an aircraft TEXAN flying around in Cosala. There was also reported movement of Secretariat Navy personnel to capture a criminal figure on the ground.

Hours later, after the raid was concluded, it was confirmed that a powerful criminal figure named Efrain Trejo Retamoza "R1" had evaded capture. R1 and his family have long-controlled drug laboratories in the Cosala mountain areas, which have the presence of both Los Chapos and Los Mayos criminal groups. The sister of Mr. Efrain had a child with the famous drug lord Joaquin Guzmán Loera, and many times, JGL used Cosala as a hideout before his final capture in Los Mochis in 2016. Last year, with the start of the conflict between Los Chapos vs Los Mayos, Mr. Efrain R1 decided to join the Los Mayos/ MF criminal group.

So, that operatives from the Chapiza mob could be apprehended whenever they were out in search of the MF crew.

Captive: We were told that by implementing this strategy we would come out triumphant on this matter. The area would have the necessary law enforcement presence against the Chapos mob. That in turn would get them easily arrested and tortured afterwards.

They’re both working together in league for the southern faction. Which happens to be Los Mayos. They have made specific changes in commanders, such as director Aquila and subdirector Moran. All of them are working in favor of the Los Mayos faction. Operations are mainly carried out  in the city’s northern sector and in the northern part of the state. This area belongs to the Chapos mob.

El Meño, or El 4x1, was believed to be the head of security for Ismael Zambada Garcia, "Mayo Zambada." His base of operations is Higueras de Abuya, located south of Culiacan, Sinaloa. El Meño also holds influence in Panaltita, Pueblos Unidos, Jacola, Chiqueritos, and Quila. El 4x1 is believed to be heading the conflict against the La Chapiza in Elota, La Cruz, San Ignacio, Alta Rosa, and Potrerillos del Norote. The plazas mentioned have seen heavy fighting between El 4x1 forces against the La Chapiza. 

El Meño according to sources was behind the death (approved by Mayo Zambada and Chapo Guzman) of Manuel Alejandro Aponte Gomez, "El Bravo" former head of security for Joaquin Guzman Loera and plaza boss of Mazatlan. El Bravo was suspected of turning in Joaquin Guzman Loera to Navy authorities in 2014.

Mexico City - In a joint communiqué issued today, December 23, the security cabinet reported on the most important actions carried out last weekend, from December 20 to 22.

The deactivation of a 'narco-laboratory' in Cosalá, Sinaloa, stands out.

“In Sinaloa, elements of the Semar and FGR located and neutralized a clandestine laboratory with an economic impact on organized crime of 2 million 31 thousand 960 dollars,” states the bulletin.

This clandestine laboratory was located in the vicinity of the town of Bacatá, thanks to intelligence work. Precursor chemicals and synthetic drug preparation equipment were found at the site, and the following were secured:

• 140 kilograms of methamphetamine
• 500 liters of precursors
• 100 kilograms of essential chemicals
• Miscellaneous material
• “The laboratory and precursors were destroyed on site,” the document explains.

In more military intelligence operations, Mexican Army personnel dismantled 4 concentration areas in which 2,100 liters of various substances for the manufacture of methamphetamine were seized, which represents an economic blow of 46 million pesos to criminal groups.

While in Culiacan, agents of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) and the Attorney General's Office (FGR) “located and neutralized a clandestine laboratory with chemical precursors and additives for the manufacture of synthetic drugs, seized 1,300 kilograms of methamphetamine, 22,760 kilograms of chemical substances used for the manufacture of synthetic drugs, six reactors, two distillers and other material, in the vicinity of the town of Corral Viejo”.

More security actions carried out in Sinaloa

During the aforementioned period, different operations were carried out with the following results:

“In Culiacán, elements of the Mexican Army secured a vehicle, 85 ponchallantas and chargers for radio communication equipment,” highlights the security cabinet.

“In Culiacan, elements of the Mexican Army, GN and FGR, searched a property where they secured 98 kilos and 1,260 liters of methamphetamine, 200 liters of ethyl alcohol, 169 liters of acetone, six liters of hydrochloric acid, material used for the production of methamphetamine, 209 cartridges and two vehicles,” they add.

The above represents 396 million pesos, affecting criminal groups in the state.

Also in the capital city, the Mexican Army located a vehicle where 3 long arms, 3 short arms, 29 magazines and 715 cartridges were found.

“In another action, in the same municipality, elements of the Mexican Army found a vehicle, where they secured two long arms, 13 magazines, 660 cartridges, marijuana and a tactical vest,” it is reported.

And in the same city “elements of the Mexican Army and GN detained a person aboard a vehicle and seized 3,000 cartridges”.

In the municipality of El Rosario, 3 persons were detained who were in possession of:

• 3 long arms
• 1 Barrett rifle
• 8 magazines
• 395 cartridges
• 1 ballistic vest
• 2 ballistic plates
• On the other hand, in Mazatlan, as a result of intelligence information, members of the Navy, the Army and the FGR raided a home in the vicinity of the Francisco Villas neighborhood, where they seized
