Calimaya, Mexico. Mario Alberto Jiménez Castro, alias “El Kastor,” alleged financial operator of the criminal group and the “Los Chapitos” faction, was shot to death in the community of San Andrés Ocotlán, in the municipality of Calimaya, on Sunday night.

The victim, who was part of the criminal structure originating in Sinaloa, lost his life after an armed attack.

According to reports from the authorities, around 8:00 p.m. an emergency call was received at 911, alerting about a man lying on the ground, face down and with gunshot wounds.

Units from the State of Mexico Security Secretariat and the municipal police went to the scene, accompanied by a local Civil Protection ambulance. However, upon arriving at the scene, paramedics confirmed that the man no longer had vital signs.

Witnesses say that the attacker, a man wearing a sweatshirt and hood, approached “El Kastor” as he walked down the street and shot him several times before fleeing in a vehicle with unspecified characteristics.

The motive for the crime has not been confirmed, although it is speculated that it could be related to internal disputes between criminal groups in the region.

At the moment, the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) began the corresponding investigations, after removing the body and transferring it to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).

The authorities continue with the investigation to clarify the details of the murder and find those responsible for the attack. This crime adds to the growing violence that affects various regions of the State of Mexico and involves various organized crime groups.

Who is "El Kastor", operator of Los Chapitos and murdered in Edomex?

Mario Alberto Jiménez Castro, known as "El Kastor", was a key operator of the Sinaloa Cartel specialized in money laundering related to the sale of fentanyl in the United States. Together with his co-conspirator, he led a US-based organization that uses cryptocurrencies to transfer drug trafficking profits to Mexico and reports directly to an assistant of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, one of the leaders of the Cartel.

Between August 2022 and February 2023, under his direction, couriers recovered more than $890,000 in cash, narcotics proceeds, which were processed through cryptocurrency wallets linked to the Cartel.

In April 2023, Jiménez Castro was indicted by a federal grand jury in New York on charges related to fentanyl trafficking, possession of high-powered weapons, and money laundering. The U.S. State Department was offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to his capture and conviction.

Mexico State’s Metropolitan Zone: Neighborhood Alarms, Closed Streets

This article is part of a digital project by Animal Político called “Aprender a Vivir con el Narco” (Learning to live with El Narco) released in late 2015.

It’s almost been two years since I’ve been here.  Little by little, Tecámac has grown and has populated fairly.  Everything was pretty quiet, unlike in municipalities like Ecatepec and Coacalco.

I lived in the latter for 16 years.  I knew, like anywhere else, that there was crime, but it began to increase much more soon after the departure of the PAN political party from the municipal presidency and the PRI’s entrance.

Where criminal presence increased the most was in part of Parque Residencial, close to where I lived.  I also heard references not very pleasant of communities such as La Joya, Villa de las Flores, which was a quiet area, and San Rafael.

The street where I lived, had to close with a white gate.  People would wake up to wheel-less cars, an increase in theft, express kidnappings, shootouts; things that I had never heard during the time that I lived there.  They aren’t as frequent, perhaps, as in Tamaulipas, but it is alarming that it increased.

La Sombra Strikes Again: 2 Dead, 2 Wounded

Translated by Valor for Borderland Beat

Just two days after two municipal policemen were gunned down in Los Reyes La Paz, the same criminal group attacked four people who were in Santa Cruz Tlapacoya, leaving two dead and two wounded.

The local police received a report of an armed attack around 21:00 hours on Monday, January 25.

The patrol unit 259 moved to the street Palmira and found two people dead and two people with gunshot wounds.

The attackers came out of a white truck in order to leave a narcomanta signed by Ivan El Ingeniero, El Pantera and La Sombra.

On a red Nissan Sentra, with Edomex license plates, the attackers left the following message:

“Esto les va a pasar a todos los hijos de su puta madre de la avanzada.

Empezo la limpia putitos, alinience con el pueblo se acabó la extorsión y secuestro

Two members of the municipal police of Los Reyes La Paz were executed during Sunday morning, while they were aboard their patrol truck, by armed gunmen who left a message.

The executions took place at 3:00 in the morning, when the municipal police unit #22-740 was attacked while they were parked along Lerma Avenue and Street 23 in the neighborhood Valle de los Reyes.

The executed policemen were identified as Felipe de Jesús González Reyes and Tomás Mendoza Rosajén, who were gunned down by alleged sicarios that placed a manta over their patrol unit warning state, municipal, and ministerial police who support extortionists and kidnappers.
