By "El Huaso" for Borderland Beat
A group of gunmen murdered four men inside "El Profe", a bar in the municipality of Ocozocoautla, Chiapas on Sunday night.
The massacre occurred around 9:00 p.m. in the El Caracol neighborhood on the eastern outskirts of Ocozocoautla. By the time police and paramedics had arrived, the four victims were dead and the attackers had fled the scene. The victims, all male, were identified as Leonel Pascasio, Wilfrido Coello, Bartolo García and Alexander Hernández. No arrests have been made.
Ocozocoautla, a municipality in eastern Chiapas, is violently contested by the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel (CCyG), an affiliate of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), and the Sinaloa Cartel. The region is a hotbed of cartel related activity, such as shootouts, kidnappings, and assassinations of police officers.

In February 2026, authorities captured "El Espiritu", the second in command of the CCYG in Ocozocoautla.
