Junior: A Son of the Gulf Cartel

Junior: A Son of the Gulf Cartel is a gripping, true-to-life account of crime, loyalty, and redemption told from both sides of the law. Written by retired DEA Special Agent Mike Chavarria, this powerful narrative chronicles his unlikely alliance with Raul Valladares-known within the Gulf Cartel as "Junior," the son of a high-ranking Mexican drug lord who would go on to betray his father and become a U.S. government informant.

Drawing on more than three decades of federal law-enforcement experience, Chavarria pulls readers inside the high-stakes world of international narcotics trafficking and the covert operations designed to dismantle it. When Chavarria meets Junior in Houston in 2005, he encounters not a hardened criminal, but a man torn between the violence of his upbringing and his devotion to his family. Motivated by his infant daughter's life-threatening heart condition, Junior makes a fateful decision to cooperate with the DEA-risking everything to protect the people he loves.

As the operation unfolds, Junior becomes a crucial source for one of the DEA's most ambitious missions, Band of Brothers, targeting the Sinaloa Federation and other powerful cartels across the Western Hemisphere. What follows is an extraordinary tale of espionage, courage, and moral ambiguity, told with the immediacy of first-hand experience and the compassion of someone who has seen the cost of both justice and survival.

Unlike typical cartel narratives that glorify power or violence, Junior reveals the deeply human dimensions behind the drug war-its betrayals, sacrifices, and quiet acts of faith. Chavarria captures the complexities of friendship between agent and informant, the blurred lines between good and evil, and the heavy personal toll of life undercover.

Equal parts memoir and investigative exposé, Junior: A Son of the Gulf Cartel offers a rare and riveting perspective on the modern drug trade and the people who risk everything to change its course.

Is it fiction or real life drama?
      Reality based at least?
Geat success would be to put fidel herrera beltran, z1 #1, yarrington, cabeza de caca, javier duarte and his wife, and cesar duarte, sinhue, extradited and imprisoned, and Kiki Camarena's murderer, felix ismael rodriguez mendigutia, since Mexico extradites criminals it would be only fair to ask for el gato felix nalgas for trial in Mexico, and manuel diaz bartlett, by the way, no time for bullshit.

    4. Sounds interesting. But what I want to know is do people still hustling here in the US. Make money like before still. Considering that everyone and their mom seem to be dealing. Or are people doing it because they find it easier than getting a job? A decade ago and longer, not everyone was selling. So you could be a connect. Now I feel everyone is a “ connect”. Feels like GOOD is losing the battle Vs Evil. I hope this ain’t so.

    3. Never really hurts to talk to the state or local police about security, they'll usually be the first to tell you when they don't want you there. The US State Department always has a travel advisory map color coded by state in Mexico, they tend to err on the side of caution but are usually not entirely current.

  7. is Junior, Junior Rafael Vela???!
Wasn't he stealing/trying to rip off el Coss & that's where all of his problems started?!
He was lying about amounts of merca crossing thus having to pay much less $$$ in fees to Coss. He was being greedy with his people & always delaying their payments taking several weeks longer & with some of the muchachos just outright not paying them.

He got ran out of Moros & his dumass went to usa lol. Guess he had nowhere near the power of his family.
If it was Rafael vela, they would call him 900 in Moros because he always wore a rolex.
He was justa greedy backstabbin guy that got ran out of his own city/country...

Nothin special to see... His dumass even had the family contacts/legacy/experience to pulloff a lot but he didnt last long at all.

What is it with all the Cardenas jr's/sons etc that there not worth a fuck???! Too spoiled/priveledged?

I met TT's fatass kid Axel once in Moros by accident at a discoteca...
He wasa stuck up/priveledged fat kid with bodyguards. He wouldn't come to the dance floor without his guys to pickup girls lol. That tells you all you need to know lol.

    Cardenas's went down badd badd.
Guess there all just Nepo kids

    2. 2:16 the DEA was investigating jeffrey epstein "and many of his associates" for drug trafficking, money laundering, traffick and prostitution of "eastern european" women, since the 90s, says a Bloomberg report.
But they never prosecuted anything, even now that they have evidence, they silence minor victims of abuse, witnesses and police, no wonder they got the Zorro Ranch to kill and disappear the witnesses and victims after the florida problemos of j epstein.

    1. What happened to that rat Beto Bravo?
I remember him shaking down one of my buddys in nuevo leon. Guy really had a tona pull with PJF/Ejercito but wasa real piece of shit.
He cheated and hada baby with his sis in law while married in san antonio.
Arrogant & spoiled ass pussy guy. If it wasnt for his family I wanna say Zs/Compania would have killed him like Junior wayyy before. I know one his younger cousins was raped & dissappeared by Zs during Juniors time... His family always ignored/played dumb/acted innocent. My cousin was seriously dating her in San Pedro.
Funny thing was that most of his fam moved to Txs after Zs/cdg split. Guess they didnt have that much pull lolol. Piece of shit ass beto. They use to bully him in school. Thats why he was so arrogant as an adult.

  13. Is this the same Junior that was shaken down by Zs in Monterrey?
They stripped him of his cash/property/merca/etc.
Think he was kidnapped & forced to give all up. This was when Zs were terrorizing the whole country.
They almost got Nacho as well @ a houseparty as well & ejercito/marina had to send in a helicopter for him. That's how close z3 was to actually getting a sinaloense once. Would have been insane if it would have worked.

  19. Thanks for posting this Buggs! I read it as soon as it came out and loved it. Mike was a superior agent and I have listened to his cool stories for decades. His team’s case is a prime example of the challenges of international investigations where frequently its our own agencies that present the biggest challenge. Mike worked many assignments in Mexico and Central America and truly is an expert and has done some crazy shit. I told him your followers are very savvy and hope you all ask Mike questions. It will be worth your wile.
