Police Officer Nayeli Rivera Is Murdered In Culiacán

“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat

A female police officer was murdered last Wednesday night while on her way home after finishing her shift as an officer with the Municipal Public Security and Traffic Department (SSPyTM).

The municipal officer was identified as Nayeli Rivera who was the leader of the purple group of the Culiacán Municipal Police. The attack occurred when the police officer was driving on the Culiacán-Navolato highway in a Nissan SUV when she was ambushed by an armed group around 9:30 p.m.; her vehicle overturned on the side of the road near the community of Alamitos.

According to authorities, the police officer had finished her shift and was heading to her home in the Bariometo ejido, in Navolato.

This attack brings the total number of local police officers murdered in Sinaloa this year to 45, making the state the one with the most cases, surpassing Guerrero with 37 and Guanajuato with 36.

Operation against armor plating workshops

Separately, authorities seized three properties that were being used as workshops to install makeshift armor plating on vehicles in the Miguel Hidalgo neighborhood.

The operation came about after an anonymous tip was made to the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE). The mobilization took place on the afternoon of 10 December on Alba de Acosta Street.

So far, no information has been released about whether anyone was arrested or what was seized inside the building.

  2. The reason this happened so easily is because municipal police officers in Mexico are required to leave their service weapons in the police station before checking out and going home. They are unarmed when they go home and are basically sitting ducks for the cartel to kill them. It is illegal for civilians to own guns. If Mexico allowed people own guns like in the U.S things would be different there. Open carry they can defend themselves against cartels. Nuff Said!!!

    2. @6:04 the officer carrying a 9mm is definitely going to stop an ambush of at least 4 men with high caliber rifles.

    3. Ñuffy is ignorant. Civilian gun ownership is allowed in México. ADF360MX channel on YouTube has all the information needed to know what a person can legally own.

Ciuicos need to have a base and stay in it after work, preferred singles, their commanders are usually on the take and collect the fallen's life insurance for themselves.

      Stop smoking the cricri.

The problem with Mexico is that its illegal to defend yourself from animals.

Hence, the only way to defend yourself is literally to become a criminal ala autodefensas. The government isnt doing enough obviously. Actually they can't possibly do enough because cops don't stop crimes they only solve them. In Mexico they can barely do that.

Its better to have a weapon and out some of these savages down than be utterly helpless. Even if all you have is your service weapon.

Bunch of morons on here living in fantasy land.

    7. 1:08am You are correct that gun ownership is allowed in Mexico but it is rarely granted. Therefore almost zero civilians own guns. It is extremely difficult for private citizens to obtain one due to strict laws and extensive bureaucracy. That is why Mexico only has one gun shop in the entire country. Nobody is buying guns because nobody can get a gun license permit. I dare you to go to Mexico and find me one person with a gun license. You have a better shot at winning the lottery. Nuff Said!!!

    8. 6:04pm; valid point but when I lived in Mexico my friends always thought it curious that we gringos thought Mexico was so violent but yet they do not have the school, mall, library, etc random shootings that we do in the states. Having lived in both countries and believe that the robust possession of arms like we have in the USA would ultimately result in more random shootings.

    1. In most jurisdictions the municipal police have absolutely no authority over most of the cartel business, but that's obviously harder to do here. The mention of the state police actions around narcotank armoring facility the same day, well, she wouldn't or shouldn't have been involved in anything like that.
