Motorists reported an abandoned cooler in the town of San Agustín, where authorities confirmed it contained remains possibly linked to events in Jesús Carranza.
Authorities made a discovery tonight on the Juárez-Porvenir highway, finding a human head inside a Styrofoam cooler in the town of San Agustín.
Motorists initially reported to the 911 Emergency and Immediate Response Center a cooler left in the middle of the highway near Miguel Hidalgo Street.
Municipal Police and State Public Security Secretariat officers went to the scene and found the cooler in question. Upon inspection, they discovered the severed head inside.
The officers requested the intervention of the Northern District Attorney's Office and closed the highway in both directions to secure the scene and protect the head.
Witnesses stated that a piece of cardboard with threats was found next to the cooler, but the officers denied this, indicating that only the cooler and its lid were present, along with the severed head.
Personnel from the District Attorney's Office and forensic experts took charge of securing the evidence, collecting witness statements, and taking photographs.
Authorities stated that this head most likely belongs to one of the two bodies found early this morning in the town of Jesús Carranza, as it was decapitated.
The head was placed in a bag by personnel from the Forensic Medical Service, who transported it to their facilities to conduct the necessary examinations and determine if it belongs to the aforementioned body.
