Claudia Sheinbaum was elected president of Mexico, the election institute said.
A sample vote count showed Sheinbaum was expected to receive at least 58% of the vote, an irreversible lead over her challengers, according to the Mexican National Electoral Institute’.
In addition to being Mexico's first female president, Sheinbaum will also be the first person with a Jewish background to lead the predominately Catholic country.
Sheinbaum, 61, is a climate scientist and the former mayor of Mexico City. She is a member of Mexico's ruling left-wing political party Morena, which was founded by outgoing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

There won't be any big changes in Mexico with her election. She is basically a carbon copy of AMLO. I jumped into the election at the last minute but nobody voted for me. DeleteWhat BB readers don't understand is AMLO had 70% of the mexican populations approval throughout his 6 years in office. So although the majority of BB readers didn't like AMLO, which I believe don't live in Mexico, the Mexicans that do live there were happy with AMLO's results. BB readers are unknowingly pigeon holed into believing that Mexicos struggle with national security issues is a reflection of its overall state of affairs, which is not the case. Yes, Mexico has a problem with crime and violence and foreigners are made to believe that Mexico is a war zone because their media portrays Mexico as such, but that is not the case per say. Some states are more violent than others. It's like saying, Chicago is a reflection of the entire United States.
So what does this win mean for Mexico? A continuation of infrastructure projects, social programs, economic and political reforms aswell as the same national security approach as AMLO but I believe it will be rebranded. She's claiming to reform local law enforcement agencies and promising better equipment, benefits and salaries. I think she's going to continue to highlight and put emphasis on the social programs that AMLO created as a way to deter the young people from joining the cartels and lastly I believe she will no longer use the "abrazos no balazos" slogan that AMLO's adversaries used against him. I believe the foreign and Mexican media will continue to bash her as they did AMLO because her plans go against foreign economic intervention and focus more on domestic inclusion and Nationalization. Just my observation.

They were exposed by the current administration. As a result of that AMLO took several steps to ensure that this type of corruption would. Ot take place during his presidential term.

2. AMLO used the military to help with these infrastructure to reduce cost and promote the militaries ability to complete missions outside of its expected duties. Sort of like how the U.S uses the army core of engineers to take on national projects.

DeleteYour correct in stating that she hasn't laid out a security strategy that is different from ELMO's. Over the last few years even the radical left in the U.S. such as the Wilson Center and WOLA have been more truthful in their reporting on the violence in Mexico and abandoning ELMO. The Wilson Center just published an article explaining how crime and violence has risen under ELMO. The left leaning rag The Atlantic just published an article entitled "The Failing State Next Door" on Mexico. Even the proterrorist rag Al Jazeera just published an article entitled "A Victory for Organized Crime" in describing Mexico's election.
I don't believe that Mexico is a failing state. Mexico is going through difficult times and the right politician has yet to step up to lead the country.
One overlooked aspect of Mexico's crime statistics is ELMO's distortion of crime statistics. He has had government officials reclassify homicides as nonhomicides and disappearances reclassified as nondisappearances in order to make it look like his crime strategy is working. According to ELMO's statistics, homicides have fallen by more than 5% since 2020. However, evidence suggests that homicides have been relatively steady if not rising slightly since 2020. We may not get an accurate picture of the actual numbers for many years. Sheinbaum can continue to manipulate the numbers but it will be more difficult for her because she would have to manipulate the numbers on a larger scale.
Sheinbaum wants to raise the minimum wage by 11%. That's a joke and not enough to keep up with inflation. Big corporations can and should pay 1,000 or more pesos per day but Mexico has yet to elect a president willing to stand up to big corporations. Galvez wanted to drop the age for pensions down to 60. That makes sense and would get large numbers of workers out of the work force and provide upward pressure on wages.
Donald Trump was the person most responsible for Mexico's employment boom over the last few years. His fight with China forced many companies in China to relocate to Mexico. This distorted the effects of ELMO's economic policies. ELMO received credit for the economic effects of Trump's anti-China policy. What people overlook is ELMO creating the largest budget deficits in Mexico's history. It will take Mexico decades to pay off this debt. Unfortunately, it looks as though Sheinbaum will continue these budget deficits that everyone's grandchildren will be forced to pay off.
It's too early to tell what Sheinbaum's security strategy will be, but it doesn't appear that it will be significantly different from ELMO's so I'm not expecting different results.
What everyone overlooks and is important to readers of this blog is that most of us have family and friends in Mexico and many of us have lost family members or friends to the violence or have had family members or friends who have disappeared. For most of us here, we don't care if the president of Mexico is a man or a woman or a PRIista or PRDista. We want the violence to end. We don't want to lose any more family members or friends to cartel violence.

Ceci Flores just discovered more human remains two days ago. She is the lady that ELMO stated suffers from "delirium of necrophilia" because she found some disappeared people a few weeks ago.
ELMO lacks the integrity to admit that these women are doing what the government is supposed to be doing. Can you imagine if police in the U.S. refused to look for missing people and allowed these mothers to roam the country doing what the police get paid to do. These mothers are searching for their loved ones at great expense and danger to themselves. Since ELMO became president, more than a dozen have been murdered or disappeared themselves in retaliation for their activities. By the end of his term there should be close to 600 military stations throughout the country to house the 120k Guardia Nacional personnel.
DETROIT wants to credit Donald Trumps tariffs on China as Mexicos economic success without giving AMLO credit for capitalizing on Trumps mistake. AMLO could have bowed down to the U.S but instead reclaimed their national sovereignty and decided to partner with the Chinese in favor of the Mexican people. What Detroit also fails to mention is that Donald Trump renegotiated or replaced NAFTA with USMCA which allowed Mexico to capitalize on the u.s imposed tariffs on the Chinese. Furthermore, AMLO initiated a countless amount of national infrastructure projects which employed hundreds of thousands and created indirect jobs for Mexicans in the affected regions. Sure there is a deficit as a result but again, some of these projects are revenue generating projects like the oil refineries, the solar power farms, the Lithium deposits, the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the Tren Maya, and several new airports throughout Mexico. Besides, it was an investment for the nation, unlike dumping 93 million of American taxpayer money on Ukraine, Isreal and Taiwan which doesn't benefit U.S security at all.

There is no rule of law here and high levels of insecurity in most of the country. There is no traditional law enforcement activity here - at all. There is impunity for most crimes. DTO money is inextricably embedded in the economy and corruption at all levels of government and law enforcement are the norm, not the exception. Mexicans fear the army and do not see them as some comforting presence. I’ve lived in TAMPS now for 3 years. There’s not a single American city that has shit on what happens here. The minute someone compares murders and such they reveal their ignorance - in the US they still actually try to solve crimes and prosecute criminals. The dynamics are completely night and day. It’s a failed state and there’s not a president who can change it. It will take a revolution.
