A video of two ministerial police officers negotiating with the alleged drug trafficker was disseminated through the media and social networks.

Two members of the Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office (FGE) were accused of accepting a bribe of at least 15 million pesos to allegedly free Jose Gil Caro Quintero, alias "El Pelo Chino," the alleged leader of the Caborca Cartel in Sonora and nephew of Sinaloa drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero, alias "El Principe.

A video was released through the media showing two ministerial police officers negotiating with the alleged drug trafficker, who was checking his cell phone while sitting at one of the tables in a restaurant.

According to local and national media, the two ministerial police officers are reportedly in custody and will be interrogated by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) for their version of events. A third member of the FGE fled with the bribe money.

On October 9, 2023, "El Pelo Chino" went with a woman to the Burrito Amor restaurant in the municipality of Tulum. Caro Quintero's nephew was carrying a gun, for which he was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, as he did not have the corresponding permit.

The FGE acknowledged that it had initiated an investigation. It also announced that all the members of the Ministerial Investigation Police, who participated in this event, were fully identified.
However, hours later, this first publication was removed and the FGE denied that the subject located by the agents was José Gil Caro Quintero, arguing that there were notorious differences "in the shape of the face, nasal wings, nasal tip and mouth", which would not coincide with the physical features of "El Pelo Chino".

"There is no indication of any similarity or qualitative correspondence of phenotypical characteristics that indicate that the person seen in the images is the person indicated," said the state Attorney General's Office, in a second publication on the social network X.

In addition to Sonora and Quintana Roo, 'El Pelo Chino' operated mainly in Sonora, Acapulco, Guerrero. In addition, according to investigations by the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Caborca Cartel was fighting for various territories with 'Los Chapitos' - the sons of Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, alias "El Chapo" - in Tabasco, Mexico City, Yucatán, Campeche and Chiapas.

"It should be noted that elements of the Municipal Police of Tulum, as well as the Ministerial Police and the [Ministry of] Navy, arrived to inspect the alleged suspect, who was accompanied by a woman, who was not placed at the disposal of the agent of the Public Prosecutor's Office. In case of any responsibility, the full weight of the law will fall on them," warned the state Attorney General's Office.

    2. J: He’s been named as having a role in drug importation through Quintana Roo for years, plus it’s a lot safer place to live than Sonora. I’d guess the Quintero Navidad brothers and other high level Caborca Cartel leaders live in Guadalajara, CDMX, Quintana Roo, etc.
