We Who Are Not As Others

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

This is how family and friends of Cartel del Noreste members put photos on Santa Muerte altars. As a reminder that they were killed in confrontations with the government in Nuevo Laredo, Nuevo Le贸n and Coahuila.

Those scumbags don't even deserve to be remembered. How many innocent people didn't they kill, kidnap, etc.

  1. Good evening everyone hope everyone’s good.
I don’t even know how to comment to that. To see that the family members actually are excepting of this is something that leaves you speechless.

    2. Ms H what’s up. Look I believe in. Saints. Come from a religious little town in Dominican Republic. So I know what is to workship etc. this is just stupid. No disrespect to who or whatever that spirit is. But ummmm kinda shows you’re worshiping something that to me in my “opinion” is evil.

    3. Ms H. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But some things are hard for me to try and or want to understand. Or digest. Respect to everyone that has some affiliation to that so called Saint. Do you call someone a saint after some of the things go Mr Sol has shown us! Now they set up the body to mimic these creatures and are doing it in the name of this “ Saint”!?

    4. Huh? I was just saying ' hello' to NYC as I have said years before, he is 'nice', nothing about article, no more, no less. Won't be doing that again...lesson learned-

    5. Rubio. Is Kali evil? Or the dozens of other Gods around the world, or folk figures or saints that represent death and are prayed to out of fear, to combat the terror that young men feel going to war? It's superstition, but the whole Santa Muerte misinformation is shocking. Death is not ''evil'', and a symbol of death is not ''evil''. Its like nodding their heads to a good luck charm, rather than ''worship''.

    3. At least Santa Muerte is only symbolic, a symbol of death that exists in dozens of religions all over the world. Some Christian ''Saints'' slaughtered thousands, burned peasants at the stake for asking that the bible could be read by the poor instead of being published in Latin, and oversaw the medieval torture of hundreds of innocents in ways that even the cartels would shrink from. And their portraits still hang benignly in cathedrals, or on pendants round peoples necks.

  4. You’re acting as if being remembered for a silly amount of time really matters. By some silly people, who soon become dust. And not even those who remembered them remain.

    1. You die, and people remember you, and in a sense, that means you're still alive..
When those people that remember you die, then it's really lights out..
Drop the ego, we're all just a bunch of ants running around..
The Aborigines in Australia got the right idea, once you die, the living are forbidden to ever utter your name out loud ever again..

    2. @8.28. I saw a documentary years ago that warned that names and images of dead Aboriginal leaders ''might be mentioned in the course of this production''. I assumed it was some legal dispute that hadn't been worked out. Found out later that they believe it will disturb the spirit of the dead and call them back. Damn people are fukn fascinating..

  6. Family members get the econ贸mic benefit, they don't care where the money came from, look to another side, and when the provider dies they cry

    1. That is ignorant and callous. You have no idea what you are talking about. Some kid tempted off the street, probably never made more than a few dollars, and his mother is only crying because she doesn't get a little bit more money? She will never be the same again. You sound like those heartless fucks who, when they see a black woman crying for her CHILD because he's been shot by police, say ''Meh, crocodile tears, she just wants the money from a wrongful death suit''. You are either 15 and dumb or 70 and too jaded to give a shit anymore.

    1. @ 12.46 ''How many DIDN'T they kill''? Lol, you for one, or you'd be dead. You have no way of knowing how that kid at the top was recruited or what he did or didn't do. Until you find out, best keep your mind a little more open.

    1. It's not often that I've come across these altars. But on those rare occasions that I have. The goons laughing at the end of this particular song is what plays through my mind as I kick and stomp the fuck out of these worldly tabernacles. To this day, I'm still waiting for these statues to rise up against me.

  12. A cult of ignorant , uneducated, papa navidad gimme free stuffs. After the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, the worship of death diminished but was never eradicated.Judith Katia Perdig贸n Casta帽eda has found references dating to 18th-century Mexico. According to one account, recorded in the annals of the Spanish Inquisition, indigenous people in central Mexico tied up a skeletal figure, whom they addressed as "Santa Muerte," and threatened it with lashings if it did not perform miracles or grant their wishes. Originally a male , now female , so its a transsexual pagan deity. Not a saint by any definition just hillbilly stupid shit.
