Caborca Cartel: "El R", Caro Quintero's Nephew Who Disputed Plaza with Los Chapitos, is Captured

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Rodrigo Paez Quintero was detained in Jalisco and has an extradition warrant

Rodrigo Paez Quintero is the nephew of Rafael Caro Quintero and had been in charge of maintaining the power of the Caborca Cartel in Sonora.

A man identified as Rodrigo Páez Quintero, who was arrested for his possible responsibility in crimes against health and criminal association, was taken into custody by elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC).

The facts were reported on the afternoon of Sunday, April 30 by the Attorney General's Office, which detailed that the man also known by the aliases Lito or Mario is wanted by the Specialized District Judge in the Accusatory Criminal System of the Federal Criminal Justice Center in Mexico City with residence in the Reclusorio Norte.

It should be noted that intelligence work links him to territorial confrontations against Joaquín Guzmán Loera's sons, that is, the group known as Los Chapitos. The arrest of Caro Quintero's nephew was also carried out with the participation of members of the Ministerial Police.

"El R" maintained rivalries for territory with Los Chapitos

"Elements of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), of the General Directorate of International Police Affairs and Interpol, carried out said diligence in a home located in the Santa Rita neighborhood in Zapopan, Jalisco," reads the statement from the authorities.

It was shortly before 1:00 p.m. that the State Security Bureau of the State of Sonora reported the arrest of Rodrigo Omar "N" through its social networks and identified him as a lieutenant of the Caborca Cartel, a criminal organization led by Rafael Caro Quintero, also known as El Narco de Narcos.

"Rodrigo Omar "N", alias "El "R", lieutenant of the criminal group of Rafael Caro Quintero, leader of the Caborca Cartel, was arrested for the crime of organized crime by elements of the Navy this Sunday, in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara."

It is worth noting that El R was identified as a priority target for the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) as he would have continued the legacy of Rafael Caro Quintero in the Caborca Cartel. His main area of operation was northern Sonora.

The head of El R's hitmen is identified as Jesus Dario Murrieta Navarro, a man with the alias El Cara de Cochi, who is allegedly responsible for the armed group La Barredora 24/7. The Caborca Cartel is currently one of the organizations that generates violence in Sonora.

Similarly, last Thursday, January 27, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the United States, Ane Milgram, shared that she will request the immediate extradition of Ovidio Guzmán López, alias El Ratón, a member of Los Chapitos and son of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán.

Los Chapitos and their fight against the Caborca Cartel

After the capture of Rafael Caro Quintero, Joaquin El Chapo Guzman's sons tried to gain ground in Sonora, a strategic location for drug trafficking to the United States. An analysis carried out by Insight Crime, an organization focused on drug trafficking, showed that one of the reasons why Guzman Loera's sons have not been able to get rid of the Caborca Cartel is time, as the latter has been controlling drug trafficking routes for several decades.

Ovidio Guzmán is being held in the Altiplano prison in the State of Mexico.

"Although it has not always been called the Caborca Cartel, the group has owned the route from Guaymas to Nogales since the 1980s. They decide who can pass and who can't," stated Juan Carlos Montero, professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey. The security specialist also indicated that the criminal group, in addition to knowing the area well, has a social base and even offers "jobs", among which the contract killings stand out.

    1. Bro, I swear some of you always look for a reason or some way to take credit away from the military or the Mexican government whenever they capture a leader or some important cartel figure. You guys literally jump back and forth between El Mayo and El Mencho without ever any proof.

    2. 5:33 He’s telling the truth. You guys literally jump back and forth from the government being on El Mayo’s payroll to the government being on El Mencho’s payroll and vice versa.

    4. 524 I couldn't agree with you more. We don't give the Sedena enough credit. Look at everyone who's been captured under this administration and you'll come to find that there is someone from every major cartel. I wonder what will be said on the mañanera, RCQ was symbolic, this capture will be a major blow to Caborca. The power struggle will begin. Good Job Gobierno.

    6. 7:26, 5:24- agree but it was likely with US intel that captured comm and triangulated to location.

    7. 945 when RCQ was captured the U.S tried to take credit for the operation and later retracted their statement and congratulated the mexican government for their efforts. A lot of people don't give credit where credit is due. They're blinded by their bias. Despite what the dummies on here say about AMLO not doing enough security wise, the results are evident. The notion of targets being captured to bow down to the U.S is silly if we consider the tension between AMLO and U.S lawmakers and agencies in the past few months. Lets take a look at who has been captured under this administration. El Marro, La Vaca, El 85, El Cazador, Huevo Trevino, Osiel Cardenas brother is being extradited, Ovidio, RCQ, Lupe Tapia, Lupe Tapia' son, El Cabo 20, El Durango, Rosalinda Oseguera, Antonio Oseguera, now Rodrigo Paez and the list can continue and will continue. But if you want to give the U.S the credit, especially after the tension between this administration and those U.S agencies, then go ahead and believe what you want.

    8. Ok, kind of on this note, what do you guys think about el mayo? He has to know some crazy shit being involved even way back in the days of the contract scandal. I just don't think it's a coincidence that he's never been caught in all these years. He's obviously got connections but I wonder what dirt he has on both governments. Or el Azul. Those guys were like ghosts.

    9. 125 he's said it himself, he's been close to being caught on 3 occasions. His worst fear is being caught. And that's from a 15 year old interview, who knows how many attempts to catch him have followed since then. I don't think he's never been caught because he has direct ties to the government, in my opinion, I believe he has a solid strategy and 60 years of experience. He knows you can't trust the government so he aligns himself with others who have deals with the government. His circle is tight, he doesn't stay in one place for too long and he doesn't fuck with technology. He's lived that way all his life so it's not like it's something he needs to adapt to, that's all he knows. He pretty much keeps a low profile which apparently worked.

    10. Mayo also got introduced to the world by his Cuban brother-in-law who was with the cia. Like someone else said strong ties, strategy and experience. Mainly strong ties..

  4. There’s a great job done by SEDENA for sure but we all know that Chapitos are placing people who they don’t like in SEDENA’s way. If El R was hiding in Jalisco this means that there was a deal with the four letters and instead of hearing up tue place they didn’t fight it out. Great job on this arrest, but this will just rattle the cage and now Sonora will be a battle ground, again.

    1. There has always been a deal. This guys and a cousin of his would spend a ton of time at a “hotel” in Amacueca who was owned by RCQ. That cousin lived in Gdl and would go out that way often. I would see her often at the Pemex in Techaluta as she would take her Range Rover there to be washed daily. Everyone in town knows her and knew she was related to RCQ as he owned that hotel. The government “confiscated” this hotel a year or 2 ago but it is still ran by the same people. Saludos desde Zacoalco de Torres Jal.

  5. this is a huge blow to the caborca cartel. el R was their main leader during most of the time. rqc was in hiding most of the time and mitigating much of his responsibility to him
