Two Dead After Tire Repair Shop Attacked In San José Iturbide, Guanajuato

By "El Huaso" for Borderland Beat

Two were killed and one was injured after an armed attack against a tire repair shop (vulcanizadora) in El Tulillo de Abajo, a neighborhood of San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, reported local journalist Miguel Ángel Mejía H. Tire repair shops in Guanajuato are attacked frequently, as they are sometimes used as fronts for criminal activity.

Over the past 10 years, 139 tire repair shops have been violently attacked in Guanajuato, causing over 215 deaths, according to an article published by the Small Wars Journal. The article argues that the attacks are related to the Cártel Santa Rosa de Lima (CSRL), and the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) turf war, which has made Guanajuato the most violent state in Mexico.

According to an interview with security expert David Saucedo, the attacks are the result of a targeted campaign by both criminal groups to destroy each other's economic engines, as the tire shops are used as sites for the dealing of meth and stolen gasoline.

    1. I had a friend (Mexican) who said he got dragged down to TJ during the mid 90s and nearly lost his life to a (supposed) police officer…

He says is there was a neighborhood where all the curbs were painted red, and it was like being in Hell on Earth..

Can someone help enlighten what neighborhood this was? Or was is it indeed Zona Norte?
