Man Waiting to Cross the Border Killed Inside his Truck in SLRC & Mexicali Vehicle Execution

"HEARST" for Borderland Beat

In San Luis Río Colorado, in the state of Sonora, a man waiting to cross the US border was shot to death by a group of hitmen in a black vehicle.

That same day the driver of a gold colored pickup truck was shot to death in the Mexicali Valley, just across the state border in Baja California.

White Truck at SLRC Border Crossing

On October 06, 2022, a man was waiting in line in his white Ford F-150 pickup truck at the border crossing from San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, into Arizona, United States, located on the international avenue, between 2nd Street and 3rd Street.

A group of hitmen inside a black SUV drove up alongside his vehicle, just across a small median in the other lane, and opened fire. They fired multiple rounds, all in plain view of multiple other drivers awaiting entry into the US.

The black SUV then sped away in an unreported direction. A motorist passing the white pickup of the victim soon after captured the following footage.

The shooting occurred during a peak time for border crossing and there was significant vehicle backup. A large amount of military and law enforcement personnel were called to search the area once the shooting was reported however no arrests have been reported so far.

The official FGE Statement describes the incident as:

“A direct attack, with gunfire, which took the life of an adult male, who was traveling aboard his vehicle at the intersection of San Luis Río Colorado to the US.

Initial lines of inquiries established that the aggressor(s) were traveling in a black pick-up truck, where they shot from inside while the victim was in line to cross the border, in Commercial 23 neighborhood.”

One rumor that was reported by social media account Calvarie Locus is that the deceased is a man named Alex, who was more often known as “Capi”.

As noted by an anonymous Borderland Beat commenter, the local rumor is that the victim gave information to law enforcement that led to either a large drug seizure or arrests. The rumor alleges that he was returning to the US because he knew it wasn’t safe for him in Mexico anymore but hitmen were able to get to him before he crossed.

Gold Truck in the Mexicali Valley

At approximately 4:58 pm on the same day as the aforementioned shooting, a man inside a gold colored pickup truck was shot to death on a highway that connects San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, to the city of Mexicali, in Baja California.

The man was driving near the exit to Mexicali, still in Baja when the shooting occurred.

Interestingly, the news publication El Imparcial has decided to print his full name, which is Francisco López Sánchez. He was 33 years old at the time of his passing.

Again, as noted by an anonymous Borderland Beat commenter, alleges that the victim was a member of Sinaloa Cartel subgroup Los Rusos and he was sleeping with the wife of a Salazars member.

  2. A citizen of the White truck reported crime to the Police. Damned that he somehow knew, his life was in Danger, and had to leave town.
Inside Tip with in the Police, how would the hitmen know that he was the one.
Can't trust authority as they work together with criminals.

    1. You can see a man slumped over after being shot to death in photos of both incidents so I gave a warning at the top.

Some people would like a warning before they see that and I'm more happy to accommodate them.

    1. I wouldn't necessarily call it old news. In the cartel world it usually takes a few days for the facts to make it's way into the public domain. And even then, you still have to sort fact from fiction.

  6. Damn. He was so close to the US and out of danger but died right next to the finish line.

If I was him I would have crossed walking or gotten to the point of entry at like 5am so there wouldn’t be a wait.

Does anyone know if he gave the info to Mexican and/or US authorities too? I know of people who have fled to the US from cartels and they cross by foot or go to an airport and buy a ticket right then and there.

    2. Thanks 1:24. He fucked up. He should have done an anonymous tip or from a burner phone. There’s also a chance the criminals knew who snitched based on just the few people who may have known location of the drugs. Sometimes only a handful know.

Then they tried reaching him and he didn’t answer or maybe acted weird, so they went to his home. Saw he took off and quietly followed him.

Anyone know how much time it took from the police tip to the murder? This is key to finding the killers or masterminds.

  7. I once got chased down in Reynosa by cartel members while coming back from Monterrey. I drove to the international crossing going against traffic. Mexican authorities of course stopped me and detained me for hours but I explained my life was in danger. This happened in 2013. I was then allowed to drive back to the US but my car tires were punctured. I had to arrange a transport to Mcallen.

    2. I have a cousin who went missing near Reynosa while driving back from Monterrey.they took his vehicle and him too. Left his wife and children on the side of the road. The guy was clean but I think he rubbed the guys the wrong way or may have been taken to be extorted further for money. We have been looking for him since 2019. He was so young and was a great person. This situation in Mexico saddens me.

  8. This goes to show you how deep corruption is. There’s NO WAY a regular citizen guns someone down before you’re swarmed in by Mexican Federal/State/Local agents/officers, National Guard or SEDENA after shooting someone, especially right at the port of entry! This hit was well orchestrated as to keep law enforcement and military away… long enough to let the shooters go. “Snitches get stitches and end up in ditches, bitches!”
