Tijuana, Baja California: "Like The Mayor Said, Collect Those Debts"

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

During the first minutes of Saturday, August 20, the murder of a woman was reported in the Buenos Aires Sur neighborhood in the city of Tijuana. At the scene of the crime, a cardboard was found with the message "Like the mayor said, collect the debts from those who owe them" referring to the debts between criminal groups that operate in the border city in Baja California.

The homicide was recorded on Mazatlán street, behind a supermarket in the Buenos Aires neighborhood. The victim was wrapped in a green blanket, tied with a cable and a cardboard with the message referring to two people who apparently hold a debt with the person nicknamed La Mojarra.

“Like the mayor said, collect the debts from those who owe them. This is your first and last notice 03 Aguiñiga (Lobo) and 02 Green (Pelos de Muñeca). Keep your end of the deal. Because you’re both very good at extending out your hands. Sincerely, La Mojarra”, reads the cardboard found by the Tijuana municipal police and the State Attorney General's Office.

The State report on homicides indicates that so far this year there have been 1,695 cases, 148 during the month of August. In the case of Tijuana, during the night of August 19 and the early hours of the 20th, 9 homicides were reported, which adds up to 117 in the month of August and a total of 1,215 in the city of Tijuana.

Initially the female homicide victim in the report recorded during the first 10 minutes of this August 20 hasn’t been officially identified.

  2. Aren’t you proud Mexico? The number of murders in that state alone is disgusting and pathetic! Let me guess… it’s the USA gun laws that cause the genocide! So we should shred our 2nd amendment of our great country? Fuck that!

    1. We all know the weapons are being trafficked from USA to Mexico, by people fueling homicides, by merely only caring about making some money, on the guns they sell to cartels.

    2. @2.19 Yes the guns are from the US, no one in America is saying to take guns away. Here’s the problem. Guns are brought to Mexico from America, America is full of drug addicts (including Don Jr) so why stop the trade? America should worry about her problems before blaming another country.

    4. 12:12 Is where efforts are invested and directed. Is the US do its part on its side of the border, lots of things would be different. Dont see any serious campaigns to counteract their drug consumption or weapon trade into the south borders.
