Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, exceeded 100 homicides in August and according to the Security and Justice Table, it is emerging as the most violent month of 2022, since every six hours an intentional homicide is registered in this border city.

“From the beginning of the year, which is January, there is an escalation in violence, there were 111 homicides in July, in August we will surely be close to that number, if not, it’s, exceeding that number, which is not very favorable for the city, we must, yes, we must worry a lot as a community, take care of ourselves a lot as a community, that we have more than 100 homicides and that we cannot reduce, in addition to the issue of extreme violence,” said Guillermo Asiain, director of the Security and Justice Table of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.

For the Secretary of Public Security of Ciudad Juárez, drug dealing remains the main cause of these homicides, since organized crime groups vie for control of the city, in addition to the fact that people who are arrested for this crime easily leave from prison

“The vast majority, the issue of the important number, the issue of homicides, is drug dealing, that is the fight for territory, for the distribution of drugs in the city, we bring around 1,700 orders and the vast majority with the issue of drug dealing, because, well, we take them off the streets for a few moments, but at the end of the day, two, three weeks and here they are out again,” said César Omar Muñoz, Secretary of Public Security of Ciudad Juárez.

It was reported that in the next few days some 300 cadets from the Police Academy will graduate and join the security operations in Ciudad Juárez.

So far this year, 696 homicides have been registered in Ciudad Juárez and, according to reports from the State Justice Prosecutor's Office, 90 percent have been committed with firearms, most of them smuggled in from the United States.
