Truck Drivers Suffer From A Climate Of Insecurity

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

In the transportation industry we live it daily, everything is an insecurity issue by any route we are traveling," said Juan Carlos Miguel Ramos Delgado, general secretary of the Administration Board of the Morelos Zacatecas Transport Company (Tramozac).

After the assault suffered by 17 countrymen on federal highway 54, the carrier reported that six months into 2022 they had already suffered five robberies and three assaults only in the company it represents, for which it lamented the situation.

“We have a fairly important issue because right now it’s at the state level, all the highways in Zacatecas. We as carriers, like all the people they have kidnapped, killed, have disappeared. What we’re experiencing is very unfortunate."

Of these robberies and assaults, he explained that they are recorded in various road sections, especially the roads to Jerez, as well as "the dead zone, where we have not had a signal for a long time", which is from Concha del Oro-Saltillo, as well as Concha del Oro-Villa de Cos. Similarly, other events have been reported in Sombrerete and Villanueva.

Of the reported mishaps, he assured that the robberies exceed 10 million pesos, if not a little more in the company he represents. He explained that as a union they detected a greater number of assaults against those who transport fair goods, beer and steel.

Regarding assaults, drivers are victims of physical attacks, but they can recover the units.

"The tractor has appeared, but they take the trailer with the product or the entire unit has appeared, fortunately until now they have returned all our personnel."

He accepted that the security personnel is not enough to take care of all the roads, he stressed the importance of traveling with precautions and preferably traveling during the day.

“We must try to take care of ourselves, try not to circulate at night, even though the companies are pressuring us with unloading cargo, try to travel during the day and as little as possible at night, look for safe havens, which is what is needed , safe areas to be able to get to rest”, he acknowledged.
