The Day Cepellín Was Hired By Caro Quintero

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

His commitment to his profession led him to face various personal challenges

With the recent arrest of the “Narco de Narcos”, Rafael Caro Quintero, diverse stories about the life of the Guadalajara cartel leader, including his relationship with some celebrities such as Cepillín, who said, on occasion, that the capo requested him to go to some private events.

Cepellín the clown, who in real life was known as Ricardo González Gutiérrez, during an interview in the “En Sus Batallas” program of TV Azteca, said that he was invited by drug traffickers such as Caro Quintero and Amado Carillo Fuentes, “The Lord of the Skies”, for the children's parties of their kids in the 90's

The artist clarified that his goal was always sharing happiness and love for people. However, his commitment also led him to face personal challenges.

“Far be it from you to think that you're going to approach people of that level. No. You arrive and just do your clown act, ”he said.

Cepellín added: “The artist goes wherever they hire him. They call you out of the blue: ‘There is some party here in Hermosillo; What's the cost?; It's so much'. You go there and once you arrive, you realize that you're at a famous person's party, but it's a different kind of fame. They treated me like a king, as a magician, they paid me very well and that was the end of it."

The clown assured with humor that he was neither police, nor a public ministry official to judge people.

“We as artists don't ask who this event is for ? If I ask I'll just be told it shouldn't concern me, it's for his son [...] so you go, you charge upfront and when you arrive you act."

The artist also assured that drug traffickers were always excellent people with him, unlike other people in public life.

"I was in Los Pinos (the president's official residence), with Peña Nieto on the Three Kings Day holiday [...] he didn't even bother to thank me, it was him and his wife Gaviota, neither bothered to show me gratitude, they didn't pay me, nor thank me," he reiterated, "Then you're hired to go see a man who dedicates himself to drug trafficking and he does pay you. Well, that's great," he said.

  1. Quite telling but not surprising that Pena Nieto stiffed him as that tool thinks he's God's gift to mankind. Too bad he wasn't sent on a mission because he was there to take out the trash.

  6. I was waiting for the part where the narcos set him up with a green room before the clown gig, and shower him with whores and cocaine.

  7. I’d be scared to go perform for a cartel, and I’ve also read some cartel leaders have killed entertainers for refusing to perform.

    1. Sounds more like you should more scared to say no! I feel like the artists that have the most danger are the regional ones. Artists from the places the cartel dudes are from. Artists that talk about the shit cartel dudes do. Chilangos making ballon animals for some kids prolly less at risk… just saying
