"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat
Medardo Hernández Vera, aka El Cien or Lalo Mantecas, top leader of La Familia Michoacana has reportedly died.
His red Jeep Wrangler was found abandoned on the road that connects the community of Agua Blanca with Huajúmbaro, municipality of Ciudad Hidalgo, Michoacán, where the Familia Michoacana maintains a presence.
The mob who work for Lalo Mantecas travel in vehicles marked with the legend “Armada del Cartel de la Familia Michoacana”. “Señor 100”, vehicles are seen in the mountains and dirt roads of eastern Michoacán and in the border areas of the State of Mexico and Guerrero.
Currently, in eastern Michoacán, a drug war is being waged between the alliance made by the leaders of the Los Correa cartel, Los Viagras and the Familia Michoacána, against a cell of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), called Grupo X, who are accused of coming to the area to extort money from all the small and large merchants in the municipalities where the FM dominates.
Unofficially, a confrontation between the CJNG and the Correas was announced last Wednesday, as part of the actions that the Familia Michoacana began to carry out an end to the rival cartel.
There was talk that this confrontation had resulted in 5 deaths, in Zitácuaro three and in Tlalpujahua two more, however, only one death was officially reported, the other bodies were never located.
That same day, the FM cartel released a statement informing that it would begin a "purge" in the municipality of Maravatío, attacking mainly people who are dedicated to drug dealing, particularly those who sell meth and extortionists who work for Group X. Tthey also pointed out that there is collusion between the municipal police of Maravatío and the CJNG.
