AMLO, What If You Just Fight Them?

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Zambada was criminally formed in the Guadalajara Cartel headed by capos Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, Rafael Caro Quintero and Ernesto Fonseca, all apprehended between 1985 and 1989, putting an end to that criminal structure, and giving way to the creation of the most notorious cartels and the drugs that divided the country for their illicit activity

Perhaps the cartel that has enjoyed the greatest impunity in Mexico is the Sinaloa Cartel. Founded in the mid-1980s, it has among its criminal heads Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada García, who at 74 has been a fugitive from justice for more than 30 years.

Zambada was criminally formed in the Guadalajara Cartel headed by capos Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, Rafael Caro Quintero and Ernesto Fonseca, all apprehended between 1985 and 1989, putting an end to that criminal structure, and giving way to the creation of the most notorious cartels and the drugs that divided the country for their illicit activity. Most of these mafias survive to date, by corrupting security forces, prosecutors, federal institutions and, particularly, due to the inability of the Mexican State to persecute them and keep them in prison for the multiple crimes committed.

Currently, the Government of the United States has four Mexican capos among the most wanted and offers rewards for information that leads to their capture. Among them, the most notorious, in this and that territory, are: Rafael Caro Quintero, for whom they offer 20 million dollars, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, 10 million dollars, and five million dollars for information that leads to the capture of the children of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, “Los Chapitos”, in particular, Jesús Alfredo Guzmán.

In Mexico, there is no one who persecutes them, nor anyone who offers a reward for their capture, much less authority that is following their steps with the intention not only of apprehending them, but of dismantling their criminal structure to fight drug trafficking in an orderly, scientific manner. , with intelligence and special operatives.

The President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is not persecuting them. Despite the increasingly violent and bloody signs given by the cartels of insecurity by taking over towns, cities and streets to massacre their competitors, the national president doesn’t move one iota, his public policy of "hugs, not bullets", to avoid capture operations. In fact, whenever he can, he reiterates in his morning conferences, that he was personally the one who ordered the release of Ovidio Guzmán, another "Chapito" son of Guzmán Loera, when in 2019 the Federal Police, in coordination with United States authorities, stopped the capo, without firing a single bullet, in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero, is more busy and focused on the persecution of his political opponents, such as Ricardo Anaya, Santiago Nieto, Julio Scherer, or the family that belonged to his brother, who don’t have time to structure a drug-fighting strategy, as is its responsibility.

This week, the confirmation of the passivity (to say the least) of the authority and the impunity of the cartels, was given by President López Obrador, when he requested that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel stop using the name of Jalisco, because it affects the Pearl of the West state. Of course, not before ranting against former President Felipe Calderón, López Obrador said, following the execution of 17 people in Michoacán:

“…All this that we are seeing, in San José de Gracia, from where these groups emerged, from the government that was imposed through fraud, that declared war (U.S.), that didn’t address the causes, from the insecurity of violence, from where it emerged this organization from Jalisco (Jalisco New Generation Cartel), well then, all of them… which, by the way, should remove their name because they’re affecting the state of Jalisco, because it’s urgent that what we are suffering, from that time.”

So, why better instead of giving consideration to the cartels to ask them to change their criminal name, not fight them to dismantle them? The President would be fulfilling his obligation and commitment to provide security and tranquility to those governed by him.

Request that one cartel, only one, modify its criminal insignia (it didn’t do so with the Sinaloa Cartel, nor with that of Juárez, nor with that of Colima, nor with that of the Gulf, or that of Guerrero, to name a few), it is as much as granting that they persist in their criminal activity, but with another name so as not to affect the social reputation of a federal entity.

And that, that is to provide greater impunity to the criminal organizations that so tears the lives of Mexicans based on blood, lead and drugs.

  4. It will go in the History books, that Obrador gave impunity to the cartels, let them run rampant killing Innocents.
The massacre of 17 unarmed citizens attending a funeral, has made headlines, we all know to save the cartels asses, they will thoroughly investigate a year later, scapegoating another cartel to take the rap, had there been no video on the killings, it would just have been a regular day.

    1. I don't think he's as bad as people precieve him to be. None of this would be happening without corruption, and he's been try to put a few dents in it. As long as this corruption and the cartels have been around this isn't going to get solved in one day. But he has done things to try to atleast slow it down.
      Check this out:

In this clip it states certain things he's attacked, mostly fraud by politicians. He's been going after them more then any previous government thats for sure.
Here's aclip of the most recent one:

From things that have happened these last couple of months, it seems the hugs are over with. Going after heads of cartels has proven to only increase the violence in Mexico (and that's due to corruption) so "to me" it doesn't matter if you go after any of the top dogs cause someone else will stand in his place, if not more then one will want to and they're going to fight for it which will create more violence and the corrupt authorities will stay corrupt and do nothing. So what would it mater if they "target" the heads or not??? It isn't going to fix nothing. From my understanding he's trying to change the power that judges have of being able of just letting people go with no protocols or supervision. He's trying to take that away or change it. He's already had acouple of different judges arrested for bribes. Alot of the things he's doing isn't visible but if you dig some, you'll find it. Keep in mind how institutionalized corruption and the cartels are and how hard it would be to know who's really sincere in their efforts to assist him in this fight. And try to keep an open mind and be unbiased, cause I know there's alot of people out there who love to hate on this guy. I caught that fever for a bit untill I started doing some digging. No I have a wait and see approach to him. Last year had less cartel related murders by three thousand and change so maybe his strategy is starting to kick in. I mean it was still in the thirty thousand and change neighborhood, but it went down and since the calderon days till now, it going down is a rarity. Time will tell if he knows what he's doing or not. I know this much, in tackling corruption and helping the poor, he's done more than any previous government and hes just mid term, so I'm not going to jump on the bashing bandwagon just yet. I let time judge him.

  6. ALMO is crazy. He needs to be locked up in an insane asylum. There's no other alternative. Full out war against the cartels has been proven to be deadly , and doesn't produce the desired results. But AMLO;s Hugs not Bullets nonsense ,,,,, isn't doing anybody any favors. Mexico needs to step it up and take control of their country. I think enough is enough. Mexico is full of beautiful and colorful music and cuisine , it's rich in diversity and culture , so much to offer than cartels and death.

    2. "Abrazos no balazos" was a quote that was taken out of context by the media who also happen to be backed by AMLO'S critics. This catch phrase was in reference to giving mexicos youth other alternatives through education and outreach programs rather than letting them fall victims to cartel recruitment. Of course, anytime someone comes in and offers positive alternatives to the corrupt establishment, either that candidate is killed off like Colosio or a relentless smear campaign is initiated like it has been done to AMLO. ,

You can take a look at a lot of the articles on this website and check for yourselves how many confrontations occur a week throughout mexico. It's more often than you would think. I did the math and we're talking about 1 confrontation between the government and organized crime a day.

Mexican culture and politics are a lot more complex than people think. Change does not happen over night, at the snap of a finger or during one presidential term. Especially when you have over 60 years of corruption. Calderon initiated the war against cartels in michoacan and nothing positive came out of it. Peña nieto allowed for armed defense groups in Michoacan only to have criminals infiltrate the movement and use them as a cover for their illegal activities. Nothing positive has resulted from that tactic. Now you're putting the blame on AMLO as if the decisions he's made are suppose to produce any better results than the previous. Again, the government is continuously fighting the cartels but the beast has grown out of control. To put the blame on AMLO as if he's responsible for the decisions and policies that have placed mexico in its current situation is either driven by ignorance, prejudice, bigotry or all three.

Obrador is doing nada for it's citizens, in the prevention of, out of control violence, but always putting the blame on someone else. He has had more than two years, at least do something before his term is up, not asking for miracles.
Why you think they are calling him, no have nada?
I am glad he is under the microscope on what action will be taken on the massacre of the 17. What to make a bet???
