Jojutla, Morelos: "El Macuilón" Executed, Once Belonged To Criminal Cell Of La Barbie

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

According to information consulted by Diario de Morelos, the subject murdered last Saturday morning in Jojutla, Nelson Horacio Vargas García, alias "El Macuilón", belonged to Édgar Valdez Villarreal aka "La Barbie" criminal group in past years.

In December 2011, the then Federal Police announced the capture of "El Macuilón", "one of the main leaders of the criminal organization headed by Édgar Valdez Villarreal 'La Barbie' in the state of Morelos."

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) indicated that Vargas García, 34, was arrested on December 8, 2011 in the vicinity of the town of Ticumán, Tlaltizapán.

"El Macuilón" was responsible for the criminal operations of the criminal group linked to "La Barbie" - one of the most wanted criminals in Mexico until his arrest on August 30, 2010 - in the western part of the state of Morelos, specifically in the municipalities of Jojutla, Zacatepec, Amacuzac, Tlaltizapán and Lake Teques.

Vargas García had been convicted in 2009 of an extortion crime that had him jailed in prison until 2010.

Now free the subject re-entered the criminal organization and "maintained an alliance with the criminal group of La Familia, which allowed him to obtain the support of material and financial resources in order to position the criminal organization and take control of several municipalities" of Morelos.

How did his death come about?

After participating in a fight in a bar, the plaza boss of "Los Colombianos" and a woman were shot dead yesterday morning in the Los Pilares neighborhood of Jojutla.

Nelson Horacio Vargas García, alias "El Macuilón", plaza boss in the southern zone; and Jessica Romero Millán, approximately 25, a neighbor of the town of Tehuixtla, were the people killed

It was around 4 in the morning when neighbors of Cuauhtémoc Street reported to 911 the gunfire they heard on the corner with Privada Quetzalcóatl.

According to sources consulted, Nelson and Jessica had been seen for the last time at Galeana's "Terrace" bar, and from there they left for Jojutla. Once he realized he was being persecuted Nelson took the first street that he came across where hitmen shot him, also killing his companion.

Nelson Horacio had just been released from prison a few months prior where he had been detained for kidnapping. Authorities attribute to him the wave of violence in the southern area in the municipalities of Zacatepec and Jojutla where he had a bloody dispute over the plaza against the mob of "El Carrete" and independent criminal groups.
