Mexico City: A Catalog Of Firearms Readily Available To The Public

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Video translation is as follows:

Reporter: Just yesterday the Cartel Jalisco New Generation released a video where one of their gunmen shows off the arrival of a shipment. And he appreciates the gift from Nemesio ‘El Mencho’ Oseguera.

Sicario: Take a look at all this firepower you sons of bitches. Just look at how my daddy Mencho keeps me supplied. You bitches, we are the absolute Cartel Jalisco New Generation. Take a look at these little grenades that I’ve got here. Look at all this you sons of bitches. This is what I’ve got you for you dogs. Just look at all these grenades that I have. This doesn’t include what my battle buddies have either. Citizens of Tepeque can start running away now. We already know that you’re running away to begin with.

Reporter: Only what is visible inside a vehicle tells you about the firepower of Mexican organized crime. The rifles are AR-15. Some with 30 round magazines. And at least another drum with a capacity for 100 rounds. Others have an attachment to launch low velocity 40mm grenades, what the hit man refers to as 'potatoes'.

Whereas the balls are hand grenades that explode into splinters. How easy is it to get these weapons in Mexico, even in Mexico City? Today a WhatsApp user identified as ‘Escualo’ released a catalog with around 100 different firearms for sale and delivery in the Mexican capital.

Smalls arms around 20,000 pesos, long guns up to 110 thousand pesos. Like this tactical Kel-Tec KSG shotgun. Completely new or clearly old. As well as collectibles in useful condition. A miniature .22 or these grenades for around 40 thousand pesos each. The infallible 'Bulldog' revolver for 26 thousand pesos despite being used. The .44 Magnum like Dirty Harry's. Or the .357 Magnum like the one Rick Ryan uses in The Walking Dead series.

A drum magazine to increase the burst capacity for a rifle of 30 to 100 bullets. It is offered at 50 thousand pesos. Telescopic sights, flashlights, suppressors, Belgian, American, Austrian, Chinese, Turkish, Brazilian, Israeli weapons. It's all here. In a portable illegal arms market where ‘Escualo’ triples the outlet prices of US stores.

Ciro Gómez Leyva: And these are not firearms to give hugs with…

    1. No , but if you get caught with one and don’t have money for the bribe you can be in some trouble .

    2. That's why criminals with guns are set free, once the bribe is paid, furthermore they get thier guns back.

    3. If this is a serious question, no. Mexico has the strictest gun control laws in the western hemisphere, oh the irony! One small gun shop is available in the entire country, on an army base in Mexico City. You need a shit ton of documentation, wait for and then return for wanted gun (poor citizens can't take time off, travel to/from easily, let alone pay incredibly high prices.) The guns available are NOT high caliber and somebody WILL correct me (comment police, you are welcome) but I think the number of guns your allowed to own is very restricted. Also, there may even be a waiting list. So no, gun control laws do not work.
Not to go on a diatribe but another country where I was a personally assaulted in (with the use of gun) was in South Africa. Crazy strict gun control laws there as well.
Let's just say I took stupid chances with my life 10-15 years ago in dangerous places and, oh yeah, I forgot I had a vagina and NO gun. Good day, Ms.H

  5. God bless USA 2nd amendment! We don’t have to worry about that shit. Menchos guys are of course well armed… meanwhile the poor Mexican citizens and average Mexican citizens are at the mercy of this scum. The elites armed…the criminals armed…everybody else NO! Gun control assholes u got just what u secretly wanted… a defenseless mass citizenry awaiting the eventual slaughter.

    4. 8:23 The Us has its share of guilt, blame and problems, among them the gun lovers that love to sell their weapons illegally like whores on the street and do not know what "a well regulated militia" means.

    2. Edgar! So nice to finally see you. Yes, I had heard these rumors that CJNG has a smalltime arms factory essentially hidden in Mexico. This is the first time I have seen in referenced beyond an obscure article I read some time ago. H

    3. Edgar glad you are back, stop going to Tijuana for dental work.
Too dangerous now, you can get kidnapped in the day, I used to go to TJ, that was like 10 years ago.I loved going to the bars, and eating at the taco stands, but I stay away from the taco stands, as they say Whitey coyote doesn't always stick to the regular meat to make tacos, he likes to cut corners. Ok Edgar Alvarado stay safe.
