"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat
An armed criminal cell fired on multiple occasions at Metropolitan Police officers (Metropol) who were guarding outside the Regional Center for Social Reinsertion (Cerereso) of Fresnillo.
The attack occurred at approximately 11 p.m. this Thursday, when dozens of bullets were heard directed at the security elements inside a patrol unit; the vehicle was riddled with gunfire.
The aggression caused the prison alert button to be activated and the law enforcement agencies went to the site, located at the exit to Valparaíso, in the vicinity of the Miguel Hidalgo neighborhood. The victims were taken to a hospital and their state of health is currently unknown.
Metropol troops, as well as Investigation and State Preventive Police (PEP), secured the area, while other patrols were heading to Valparaíso, as the aggressors reportedly fled along that route.
To support the response to the attack, National Guard and Mexican Army personnel guarded the exit and entry into the municipality.
