Acapulco: Three men gunned down in front of hundreds of tourists

Lucio R. Borderland Beat -thank you Chava for the heads up

The security crisis continues in Acapulco, as three men were killed on Saturday in broad daylight and in front of hundreds of tourists.

According to reports, several armed men arrived at Playa Icacos (beach) at about 1:30 pm and began shooting  a few meters from “ The Golden Zone” of Costera Miguel Alemán in Acapulco port.  The men who were killed in the attack were described as tourist guides.

One was killed at the entrance of the Oceanic 2000 hotel, another near laying on a concrete bench and the third in a sandbar area, by jet ski rentals.

The attack comes on the heels of multiple murders in tourist areas in the past months and 20 days after the pursuit and shootout on the same beach, between federal police and  suspected members of organized crime that caused the closing of the beach for two days.

  3. Hopefully more tourists will come for the murders and the balaceras than the bola de putos escandalosos that leave and don't come back, I know I will never go there...

    1. Why go to acapulco when you can go to chicago abd see the same thing cheaper

      Delete
    2. It's only bad in the black neighborhoods in Chicago. Black on black crimes

    3. Black gangs in Chicago don't kill vendors. They kill other gang members. If you aren't black and a gang member you will be ok 99% of the time.

  4. This is happening at least on a weekly basis where broad daylight murders are on the Acapulco beaches. It's amazing because the military is EVERYWHERE walking around, but they don't look like they have their act together. There are no more Americans on these beaches. The only non Mexicans you will find are a few snowbirds who refuse to visit a different location or a few old non spending Canadians and Americans who live there part of the year. The weekends the beaches fill up with fat tecate drinking types, mostly local and from DF. The upper middle class DF crowd won't even stay in Acapulco. They stay on the outskirts where the new construction is in a place called the Diamante region. It's just a flat beach, no view of anything and big shopping plazas. No skyline, boring. The main Acapulco area at night is empty. Most bars are closed now, even Walmart went from 24hrs to closing at midnight, to closing at 9pm!!! It may be back open late again, not sure. There are a few little bars, but you won't find tourists in there. Mixing with locals in Acapulco is much different than mixing with locals in other Mex tourist towns. You need to use caution. Any female from a good family won't be out during the week at night besides there's nothing really open. All the gigantic discos are closed and only open on the weekend where they are filled with DF and locals only. In the past it was international and nationals from all over Mexico. These murders are in the heart of tourist zone. I have friends that live nearby and I've stayed near there often. There's no excuse for the federal government not to be able to combat this or at least apprehend. There's not many escape routes if you gun someone down on the main avenue and with the security presence like something I've never seen, I now believe it's pure corruption or incompetence, I lean towards incompetence. I feel bad for the locals that wake up and go to work like normal or business owners. They are probably hanging on by threads. The quality of the Aca experience has diminished greatly. It was the coolest place on earth before. I personally have never seen such cool people and night life anywhere in the world. The views and sunsets are still imo the greatest, but there's no way I can recommend Acapulco as a place to visit to a family member or friends looking for a vacation..My friends would think low of me after being sent there in this situation where the streets are a bit dirty, the place looking like a warzone patrolled by large masked convoys and nobody with anything in common. I'm probably a small handfull ofpeople that still visit there holding on to memories and waiting for a holiday weekend where it's more normalized in the evenings. Such a sad thing watching what's happening with no end in sight. If your on a budget and want to stay in beach front highrise hotels, have guaranteed great weather, good tacos and relax for 50/night, then head on to Acapulco, but the savings you'll get on the hotel will be lost on the airfare and time it takes to get there as the flights there are few.

    1. Looks like you know Acapulco well. By the way, flights from San Francisco, last February were $325, the lowest we have seen in twenty years.

    2. That's pretty good! I used to connect through houston where they had 2 flights per day, now there's one express jet every few days. I also remember direct flights from the east coast and Chicago. Now I fly to Mexico City and then to Aca. I like being in both places. Aca really has taken a turn for the worst. It just doesn't make sense. You should be able to FILL those hotels with sun seeking folks who are on a budget. Even if Canada flew some charters and these hotels did some sort of AI. I'd like to see Aca rebound, but it won't anytime soon. At this rate of tourist zone violence, I might not go back next year. Just too many bullets flying around and too much poverty which makes the white man vulnerable. The mexicans with money won't even walk around the tourist zone anymore..what does that tell you

    1. Yes, Cancun and Cozumel are safe. I travel to both about 5-6 times a year for work and have not seen or heard of any problems. Going out at night is not a problem either.

    1. That's nothing...You should see what it's like just walking up the sidewalk on the main avenue. Platoons of military. It looks like what would be a war zone. I'm used to it, but no first time visitor would be
